I slept like absolute crap last night. The fireworks went on pretty late. I'm hoping to sneak in a nap today. I have a pretty low key day at home today, and it's going to be 101, so I'm thinking napping won't be a problem.

Today has been eventful so far. I asked T2 if she wanted chorizo and eggs for breakfast. She said yes. The chorizo was frozen, so I put it in the microwave to thaw while I get the other stuff ready. Just as I go to get it out of the microwave I hear a pop. Yep, it exploded in the microwave. That was fun. I cleaned it the best I could quickly and thawed out another one and made breakfast.
I got a new undercoat rake and went to work on Jackson because his coat is out of control. 😳 The amount of hair I pulled off him is crazy. I then swept up the hair that flew everywhere and that was crazy too.
By then T2 had finished unloading the dishwasher. I reloaded it and scrubbed the microwave down since she was out of the kitchen at that point. Now that I've cleaned the dishes and scrubbed the counters and sink, I'm going to mess it all up again. I have a nice looking watermelon to cut up. When the twins and I are done eating our weight in watermelon, I get to wipe everything down again and make pico. It's not even 8 am yet! Ugh!

I also slept like crap, LD doesn't share very well. when I realized it had rained overnight and everything was soaked, I knew I wasn't going out to fire up the leaf blower. so I turned on tennis and snuggled with Punk again today. it's raining again now, so we can't go sit outside. of course, it's supposed to clear up by tonight so there will be booms again. god, I hate this week.

I was impressed with Penny. After being terrified by the thunderstorm, she ignored the pop of fireworks. They aren't that close, but sound carries in wide, open spaces My neighbors will set some off, but they haven't yet. People around here shoot them for about a week because they are only legal 2X a year . . . two weeks before New Year's and the two weeks before July 4th. I'm hoping the new house won't have them. The houses are pretty close together (garden homes), and I have a hard time picturing old folks setting them off in postage-stamp backyards. Yes, I am aware that I will soon be part of that "old folks" club, but I won't exactly liven them up. I like quiet more than even they probably do. I finally got to wire my money to the closing attorney. The numbers were better than I thought. I'm still paying $76,000 above what I am getting for my old house, but I had allocated $90,000. I have a few projects I want to do sooner than later . . . install a Ring doorbell and a storm door. The rest will wait. I even refused to buy the seller's kitchen table even though I only have a dining room table. etc. at this house. I have a 4' folding table and chairs that I will use for now. I close on Friday at 4 pm and then again at 4:30 pm (sell/buy). I cannot wait for this to be over, but the movers don't come until next Tuesday. Meanwhile my sister arrives for a month on Saturday. That was already set so there was nothing I could do about it. I am so antsy that I am chattering nonsense!

I'm so freaking full. I usually don't eat until around noon. It's not 9 am yet and I've eaten so much already. Macy did well at quality control. I'm happy to report that the watermelon is not poisonous.

Worrying. After not having a monthly for over a year and a half I am spotting. Doc ran blood tests last week to check hormone levels, but no results yet. She did say to call right away if I ever started spotting. Of course it would happen on a holiday. Haven't told DH yet. He worries about me enough as it is.

I found some advice for helping pets through fireworks:
1) Yawn when you hear a boom. It helps the pet see that you think it’s nothing to worry about.
2) Give a high value treat immediately after the boom. It helps the pet associate the noise with something good.
3) Play loud music to help drown out the booms.

DH and I went out to another town to see their fireworks last night. I love to watch the professional shows, but hate the traffic congestion afterwards getting out. We left early, right after dinner, figuring we could walk around their downtown to see whatever 4th event they had that night (they usually have a whole holiday of stuff in the charming square w/ band gazebo). Nope, downtown was deserted. Head over to the park - it's mobbed. No music or entertainment, just the fireworks apparently, and some food trucks. So we walked all around the large park, scoped out where the fireworks were being set up, went back to the car for our chairs (lots more cars had filled in that section of the park by then - the grass there is going to be churned to mud from the recent rains). Set up our chairs over by the soccer fields, and watched all the kids playing pick-up games w/ all ages, as we waited for the sun to set and get dark enough. Saw all the emergency prep, too - 3 fire engines, 1 ambulance, and various other vehicles hauling four-wheelers. Gorgeous night - the rain had cleared out the smoke from the wildfires, and the sky was clearing off the last puffy clouds on the horizon. Long fireworks show, really nice, could have been half as long and still would have been wonderful. It was weird going without any kids, after so many years of taking the family - DS5 was w/ friends for d&d, DS4 wasn't interested. It was nearly midnight by the time we got home, clearing all the cars out of the park simultaneously takes a while, even with traffic control. That's the only part I hate. Today we go out to my parents' house for the day, nearly all the kids are coming.

The other two would be of no interest to Penny because she is cowering under something. I usually take her to bed (my bed) and let her get under the covers and right next to me. It helps, but there are times when the fireworks are so bad that nothing I do helps. One time she refused to go outside in her yard the day after. I had to put her in the car and take her to a park to do her morning pee.

It rained last night and there was lightning in the distance, so we didn't walk up the hill to watch the fireworks across the river (they were still on). I ate so much grilled pizza last night.
We're going to a friend's house tonight to watch the Philly fireworks from her rooftop deck.

Last night was surprisingly respectful this year. Pretty much everyone wound down around 11.
There were some cool ones I'll admit. DH and walked around to take in the free show.
The kids were both spending the night elsewhere so it was just us. That was nice.
DH tripped over one of my flower boxes and rolled across the yard backing up after lighting a 25 cent zipper firework.
Did not know when they warn you about the danger of fireworks it's dangerous because you're going to die laughing.

I chopped up the pico and cleaned all the kitchen surfaces for the third time so far today. I should probably bathe myself at this point.

I didn't sleep well, but I do not have the excuse of any disturbances. I'm just off on my sleep cycle.
MLB and Wimbledon this morning. I think we're taking our kayak out this afternoon. Dinner at our house with Miss Grandbaby and her parents.

Fixed breakfast and spent about 30 minutes pulling and spraying weeds. I ran out of weed killer so I'll finish on Thursday as well as trimming some volunteer sprouts on a couple of trees. Now I need to marinate my lamb chops for tonight and shower.

Ok, I think everything I have done with this house is "wrong." None of it is earth-shatteringly wrong, but still I hope it isn't an omen of things to come. First, I think I took the $76k out of the wrong Roth account. One has stocks, etc.; the other is the money I took out of that and put into a money market Roth to have the money available. Both are labeled Roth IRA Brokerage, which I didn't know, and both have $90K in them. Lol. I did it on the phone with a Vanguard rep, and it won't actually take effect until tomorrow, but the last 4 of the account vaguely reminds me of the "wrong" one. I have no way to check today and no way to correct it, anyway. Both are not taxable so it isn't the worse that could happen. Second, yesterday I ordered the older version of the Ring Video Pro from Amazon because it was it was about $80 cheaper. Today I get an email that the Ring Video Pro 2 is cheaper than what I paid yesterday. I really wanted the Pro 2 because it goes to the floor, which better catches porch pirates. It was too late to cancel the order so I will have to return it. I did go ahead and order the one I really wanted. It's just annoying because I had a gift card balance that now will go back on the gift card. Oh, well. I need to quit thinking so hard.

Worst case, you can put in an order for the same stocks/funds in the other account to go through on the same day and it will be a wash.

it's raining pretty steadily now, and I have moved downstairs for the day. here's hoping it keeps raining for the duration. Wimbledon is on now, and will be til it's done for the day around 5pm. I'm going to dig out some puzzle books, I think. pups are out cold, I got a fantastic pic of Punk airing out with a tennis ball in her mouth. she was actually snoring when I snapped it.

DH went into work about an hour or so ago. Just started the laundry. At some point today I need to dig the fireworks out of the shed. We don't have any big things left from NYE - we shot all of those at my sibling's house because they have acreage. I know we have sparklers left. And there may be a couple of mini cones or mini fountains. That's more than enough for Kiddo. And just right for the backyard. I am of the opinion that shooting large fireworks is a bad idea given the way these lots and homes are set up so we only do small things that stay in the backyard. Too bad the rest of my neighbors don't follow that same line of thinking.

We got 1.6 inches of rain last night. Good thing because now all the rain forecast for today we were banking on is now no longer going to happen apparently.
I was trying to decide whether or not to go to the 4th celebration/parade or just stay home and I'm leaning towards home. Carrot went up north and ODS got called to his Dad's to help with a flooded basement so it would just be me anyhow. It's a fun parade...they hand out beer along with candy, LOL...but I should tackle my disaster of a room.

Fireworks stopped around 11 PM, but woke me at about midnight. Non-stop until 3 AM. So not much sleep. Woke up around 6 AM. Not enough sleep.
Fireworks have already started this morning.
Maddow and Amelia are neither one happy and both need to be on top of me, like right up to my neck. There isn't room!

I'm getting the house shopping bug again. This one has me intrigued. Lots of what I want. One level, walking distance to work, attached garage, fenced yard... Bigger than I'd "need", but I'd rather have too big than too small.

FIL just showed up, when most of the work is done. He's not normally like this. I'm staying in the house because I can't hold my tongue. I said that's on you to DH. He agreed that I should stay in the house. He knows me. He is my person.

It's a beautiful house. So jealous of the price and taxes. It's pretty similar to my neighbor that sold for just about a half mil.
My taxes are more than double the taxes on that house. And mine is worth less.
