After breakfast we went to Costco and ordered 3 new pairs of glasses and updated lenses for DH's sunglasses. They had buy 1, get $50 off second pair so did okay with all that, plus had a $50 rebate from last quarter and will get 1% back on the rest of it. Also got DH's hearing aids serviced and stocked up on toothpaste, floss, lip balm, Allegra etc. After lunch, a quick run through Aldi. Need to hit up a little grocery tomorrow am for some veggie (squash) to go with my lamb chops and some broccoli for DH's side Thursday.
Junk TV time here now

I'm one of the people that will be blowing shit up tomorrow. I don't even buy them until 7/4. I don't light thm until late afternoon and I'm not going to be at it all night. I'll probably wrap it up around 9 or 10. Nobody is ever going to make everyone happy, but we can be at least somewhat courteous to those around us. Especially those with animals. I don't begrudge anyone one night, where it is actually legal. it's the days on end, where it isn't legal, that make me nuts. I bitched about it in the association FB group last year, and got called a Karen, welcome to America's Hometown, get used to it and all that. like I said, I live in redneck central in the woods, and I hate the assholes. as for you, I know you will, but be safe, and take care of your pups. 💗🐾 The PA state legislature fucked up when they legalized the sale of fireworks to Joe Schmoe and they finally admitted it and passed additional legislation to allow individual municipalities to have enact harsher fireworks bans and penalties vs. the "effectively banned due to population density" BS we were allowed. Too little, too late. Every meth head in the state is still buying and setting off fireworks in super dangerous conditions. The law allows fireworks bans within 150 feet of a dwelling (occupied or unoccupied); there is literally nowhere safe in my town to set them off. We usually try to avoid being home on the 4th because it's horrific for my generalized anxiety. No amount of benzos helps. Last year we ended up staying home and it wasn't too bad, until some fuckwad down the block decided to set off some massive boomers in the middle of the intersection my house is at. I still enjoy professional shows, but even I've been to professional shows where accidents have happened. It's scary to have untrained people setting them off so close to houses. Whine whine whine.

Had a relaxing morning for myself, husband got done work at noon, yay. We're going to our friend's house for dinner and drinks in a couple of hours (and watch fireworks across the river from a hilltop). I should get to making some whipped feta.

Whine whine whine. my neighbor with the puppy, she had closed him in her bedroom and cranked the loud window unit AC, fan, and turned on the tv. then she took her daughter down to the pond where the show was. it's 6 houses away, down the hill from us (we're across the street from each other) and when she was texting me about it, she said she was getting freaked out by how things were getting lit in all directions and she didn't want to be standing there when one came *this* way. hard pass, thanks. as someone said, don't light my house on fire, please. esp knowing I'm hiding in the basement with the pups. b/c if I die, I'm gonna haunt you. and if I don't, my lawyer will.

cue the Twilight Zone music. I'm sitting out here near the tiki bar, Wimbledon is on tv. crazypants came outside with her pup for outs, and struck up a pleasant conversation with me. it was bizarre.... let's see if this means she's becoming less unhinged. she wished me a happy 4th, and I wished her good luck tonight with the booms. when I came up to check out the professional-grade shit the other night, her backyard was all lit up again.

Whipped feta sounds intriguing.... It's super easy and delicious! There are recipes all over the internet but the basics are whip some crumbled feta in a food processor, add whipped cream cheese (preferred, though I used regular cream cheese since I already had it), process until smooth. Add fresh herbs to your liking. Serve with baguette slices, pita chips, crackers, cucumber slices, etc. I also do a whipped ricotta. I'm all about whipping cheeses.

Split open a date and stuff it with a mix of whipped cream and blue cheese - sweet, salty, tangy. If you want extra work but extra good, wrap the stuffed date in a bit of bacon and bake or grill until the bacon is done. Oh baby!

Oh besides fireworks last night we saw a guy dressed as a very put through the ringer Cruella DeVille go by on a bicycle. Then we watched a guy as high as a kite riding a bike faceplant right into the middle of the street. DH went to help. I stayed with Abby in case we needed to run. I own it. I told DH my first priority is my kid if the guy attacks you I'm running. He said that was fair he would be mad at me if I didn't. On Saturday we saw a guy arguing with his flannel blanket. Not sure who was winning. It's getting really weird around here anymore. No kidding. NoNamePerson do you eat Limburger? For me that falls into the sa.e category as durian -> very stinky food which is not to be eaten. I love most cheeses but if it stinks there is not a chance in h*ll that I will put it into my mouth.

OK. As part of my interview, I have to do a demonstration
But, the parameters of demo are so wide open.
In my line of work, I deal with a lot. If I get a wide open question on an interview, I can only really respond with the bill clinton response "It depends what the definition of is is." And that's just not my reality. I can't generalize broadly. I need specifics to do my work.
I think I have enough of a story line in my head that I can start to put parameters around the demo.
Which is good. And I'm only saying this here because no one at home has 10 seconds to listen to me.
(That said, DH remembered a school assignment I did like 2 summers ago, so I'll cut him some slack.)

One place I lived there was a guy who would walk down the middle of the street about 1:30am yelling every cuss word he knew. When he would reach my neighbors rose bush he would stop, genuflect and make the sign of the cross, then continue on cussing and swearing at the top of his lungs.

I'm at the level of burned out with work that just pulling into the parking lot makes me stabby. I'm sorry. I cried for just about an hour. That seemed to do the trick. Thankfully I'm at home.
Sometimes you need to let the grief go. I wish I was better at that.

The rose represents Christ's passion/the Virgin Mary.

I may have pissed off everyone today, legit everyone, and I don't really care. y'all have opinions, and I do, too. today's unpopular opinion was that MA is now welcoming applications for drivers licenses from undocumented immigrants today. today, when over 100 people (according to the evening news) were naturalized in Boston. this is a slap in the face to them, to those that are still waiting on immigration decisions, and to everyone that is here that did everything the right way. link I also had some things to say about the continued fireworks (and I'm hearing FOOMP! as I write this post. it's still daylight, not even dusk, WTF??)

Visiting the area where Dad grew up. It really is a different world out here. As usual it didn’t take long for DH to become the favorite, with Dad’s cousin this time…all it takes is some car electrical trouble and he’s the golden child It’s been fun discussing genealogy with him, and hearing things I can’t look up online. Struggling a bit with migraines and not sure whether that’s from heat or just the emotional stress. We visited the cemetery today, and the farmland. DH is chasing DS around the local pool/park while I wait for meds to kick in. Not sure how much of the rest of the family I’ll wind up seeing. I knew my second cousin’s daughter was getting married on Saturday and they weren’t going to have much spare time. I hadn’t realized her husband (FOB) was fighting cancer that had gone undiagnosed too long She’s a couple years older than me and he’s about DH’s age and they are lovely people who absolutely should not have to be dealing with something like that. Tomorrow we’ll go to the slightly bigger nearby city and see if we can find any of the building my great grandfather designed. Thursday I have a long overdue appointment to finalize a headstone design for Dad.

I was so relieved to move away from our last house…it was a vacation spot where fireworks were legal and the entire 4th week was just awful. We mostly tried to be out of town…I remember putting the dog in the car in the garage one year bc that was the best we could do to muffle the sound, poor guy.

Hydrating with chilled grapes after dinner. I mowed the front lawn because I thought a storm was coming in. Nope, went the other way. But hey, at least the lawn looks good.

We had an eventful 2 days. Yesterday afternoon had an EF1 tornado come through our neighborhood, although I don’t think it quite touched down. House 3doors down had a tree split with half landing on her house. Landed on a dormer and damaged it but rest of roof didn’t look too bad. Tree company just now got it removed after working all day. Several other trees down. We also lost power and finally got it restored at 4am. We didn’t lose any food, I was most worried about the big batch of tamales I had just put in fridge, but they were ok. Also was able to grill our steaks early on the outdoor grill. Several areas of our city are still without power and might be a couple more days, so we were fortunate.

DH fixed salmon and polenta for dinner so I'm very full. Tomorrow is another day.
Hugs to all that need them and my hopes for a good night's sleep

we all just did outs right before 8pm, will be last for the night bc I've been hearing FOOMP! and pops for an hour already, it's only just now getting to dusk. I'm streaming Frasier on my phone now, and this is S1E1. I'm not sure I've ever seen this one before! LD is properly burrito-wrapped, with the noise machine and everything else. Punk is pouting across the room while I'm here on my laptop. there's no easy way out of this tonight. hopefully she finds her way back to bed by morning tomorrow. b/c the storms are supposed to clear overnight and my alarm is set for 6am so I can corral the weeds I pulled today, with my leaf blower when I wake up.
I feel like an asshole complaining about what I have this week, with what all I've read. I know what I'm bitching about this week is entirely #firstworldproblems. and I'm sorry, I just need to vent. :/
