It's a rough morning this morning. I tried. I tried the self-care. I stitched. I laughed at Will and Grace. I'm eating.
Nothing is working.

The yards here look like late August, too, but there were plenty of big boomers going off last night. The city even asked people not to do fireworks this year because of the drought.
They are legal until July 8 until 11 PM tomorrow; 9 PM the other nights. It was well past 11 when I heard them last night.

They've been going off in our neighborhood since mid June and usually continue well into August. Nobody enforces it. DH and I like to guess what those people do for a living because the shit they light off is about $80-$100 per boom and they are doing multiple ones a night for two months. It's hell getting Charlotte to go outside to go potty. She doesn't return to normal till around when school starts.

The Toddler and his parents will be here in a month for a few days. The Toddler will be staying with his grandma for a bit. DN1 and wife have a wedding in Mexico City to attend. They finally decided they did not want to take him even though he knows the couple and loves to go to their house. Having the Toddler along would put a damper on their fun. Will be interesting to see if Grandma can get him to bed. Last summer she said she wouldn't take care of him again until he was potty trained and he isn't potty trained at all. Their return date is the same date as oldest great nephew gets in his dorm at college. Grandma said she'd take the 3 year old with her. I know how embarrassed I would have been to have grandma and my 3 year old cousin there when I was going to the dorm. Both DN1 and NIL said the same thing.

Very little fire works around here - it is illegal to set off firework in the Bay Area. But last night someone decided around 1am that it had been way too quiet. For a while there it got so loud the windows were shaking. That was NOT necessary or nice for this insomniac. So yet another night with very minimal sleep. Maybe a nice swim will negate the need for a nap as napping messes even more with my sleeping at night

My friend is visiting her mom back in Nebraska. She says people in her home town save all year to buy fireworks.

I'm at the level of burned out with work that just pulling into the parking lot makes me stabby. Liked only because I can relate. My last employer had me so overworked it was maddening. I was afraid to take days off for fear of the shit show that I'd come back to.

Nobody is ever going to make everyone happy, but we can be at least somewhat courteous to those around us. Especially those with animals.

My friend is visiting her mom back in Nebraska. She says people in her home town save all year to buy fireworks. We counted at least $1500 just last night from one house. $1500 literally set on fire. They do this for MONTHS. I'm fine with them on the 4th. I'm fine with stuff that goes up in the air and pops. I am not cool with three freaking months of it and shit that is the equivalent of a stick of TNT going off in a residential area where you can stretch your arms out and touch your neighbor's house. You want professional level fireworks go see a professional show. I shouldn't be able to feel/see my house rattle from three blocks away. And I REALLY hate the people who keep sending paper lanterns up. Those are hella illegal. Yep I am getting to be an old fart. I am fine with fireworks being legal but there are still supposed to be rules about it. Professional fireworks in residential zones is supposed to be one of them. The damn cops have time to go around putting a sticker on DH's car because he WFH and the car hasn't moved for 24 hours but you can't ticket the pyro down the street?

DD1 went upstairs to her room. She found 1 of her birds had died. 😭 DH took the bird out. We spoke with her for a little bit. I ended up refreshing the water, bird bath, and food for her remaining bird. RIP Sprite. 🦜 😔😢😭 ugh! I'm sorry!

Our upstairs HVAC leaked down through the floor into the main level. We've had big blower fans from the repair place going since Thursday morning. They were all going when I went to bed at 10pm last night. One of them was not running when DH got up this morning. It blew out the electrical outlet. Glad the wall didn't catch fire.

Our power and internet didn’t come back on until 8 this morning. I am behind schedule because I was supposed to start grilling at 6. I didn’t want to start opening the refrigerator though, and I didn’t know how long the power was going to be out. The cable is still out.
This is the first time we lost power for hours here. It’s gone out twice before, for about 30 minutes. Our lines are underground. There are still people whose power hasn’t been restored since the last storm. This is ridiculous.

I don't begrudge anyone one night, where it is actually legal. it's the days on end, where it isn't legal, that make me nuts. I bitched about it in the association FB group last year, and got called a Karen, welcome to America's Hometown, get used to it and all that. like I said, I live in redneck central in the woods, and I hate the assholes. as for you, I know you will, but be safe, and take care of your pups. 💗🐾

Jackson DGAF about the fireworks and would be fine walking around outside while they go off. Macy is the exact opposite. She will be spending the evening in the kitchen which is the quietest place because it's in the back of the house and people will be lighting them in the front. I'll have music blaring in the front of the house so I can drown out as much as possible. We've been doing that for the last week that they have been going off.

My second interview is all set. There's things that I'll need that I have to brush up on from school. That is OK.
I feel like our schedule for July is starting to solidify.

With a Nebraska drivers license you can purchase fire works year round in South Dakota and Missouri. My neighbor was invited by fireworks retailers to attend steak dinners to watch videos of different fireworks you can purchase. It's a different world for pyros!

Once you spend so much money on fireworks they add all kinds of stuff for free. I don't understand setting off thousands of dollars for nights on end and I like fireworks.

DH was off yesterday so we did our BBQ and hung out in the pool outside with Kiddo all day. Which sounds much fancier than it was since it's only a 2ft deep blow up pool. We had a lot of fun and I have enough food leftover that I don't have to cook for a couple of days.
Ran to the grocery store this morning. Milk, bread, coffee, and popsicles. I've been meaning to get popsicles all week but I kept forgetting. DH and Kiddo are playing a game and then he will go to work after lunch. Kiddo and I will hang outside for a while. She will probably get in the pool and I need to prune and deadhead my plants. I think the forecast was for mid 90s today. Which is still hot but it is a reprieve from the oppressively gross heat we have had over the last week.

Punk would easily sleep through it, on the beach with the crowd. I'm gonna slip LD an extra cookie this afternoon like yesterday, for today and tomorrow. I think that and the white noise from the bug zapper thingy on top of the AC and fan are enough go keep us upstairs tonight. 🤞🤞 anyway.

There was a fireworks display with drones - that I saw on the news last night. They mentioned the heat, pets and veterans with PTSD. I believe this is the second year that the city had put this display on. It was cool - lots of red, white and blue in the sky with no noise.

Fireworks are illegal in NJ except for towns So we only hear town fireworks for few days before and after. Towns take turns But there are always a few meaning around a dozen set off by people who buy out of state. Usually only on July 4. At least here houses are on half acre so not close and not loud. Sounds like hell for lots of you . Yikes lots of wasted and dangerous spends

Debating between having a second cup of coffee or a morning nap. The dissertation variable dictates the coffee. Meh.

There are maybe 12 of a hundred people on my floor in today, so it's quite relaxing.
DS just saw on his timesheet that he's scheduled to get holiday pay tomorrow, so he's giddy about that. He didn't realize that full-time people actually got PAID on holidays, he thought it was just time off. He's always been part-time or a temp before so this is all new to him.

Where in MO do they sell fireworks year around? We have places that pop up this time of year and then after the 4th, they're gone. I don't think I've ever seen fireworks sold outside of this time of year and I've lived here my whole life.
