Up and showered, waiting on clothes to dry. Then it is off to the gyno. I hope I allowed enough time. It is a new doctor for me, about 30 minutes from home. Appointment is at 9, and I have a pretty important meeting at 11. After that I will call the dentist to see if I can get in and get this tooth looked at. I have a feeling I will be looking at a root canal. 😔

Going to be a long day. Not a lot of sleep last night. same. we had a fantastic laser show overhead last night. LD was a hemorrhoid and kept waking me up. I need to leave soon to head out to a site visit, and my parents showed up an hour earlier than they said they were coming. I shouldn't be surprised, but I'm still all out of sorts. ans today's site visit is going to be all kinds of uncomfortable as the site has been having major issues recently. ugh.

That sounds wild! Where was that (if you remember on your cruise)? The sun never set while we were in Northern Norway, above the Arctic Circle and in northern Iceland, We were on an ATV excursion in Isafjordur, Iceland and at 9 pm, it looked like 3 in the afternoon. This really does jack around with your sleep patterns. I never realized how much we use sun setting cues to sleep. Visiting the arctic during 24-hr sun time being the big outlier aside, this is is why I hate DST. I know I'm dependent on sunrise and sunset cues!

Big storms started right when I was going to bed last night, of course. I tried to make a pillow shield so I could actually try to sleep without lightning making my eyes jump and flutter. I ended up taking a clonazepam at 11:30, and got up at 5:30 to check the basement (I'm still paranoid about our old [fixed] water issues) so this morning's work location is my bed for another 30 minutes.

www.cnn.com/2023/06/27/us/janitor-alarm-freezer-rensselaer-polytechnic-lawsuit-new-york/index.htmlOMFG. The school doesn't blame the janitor but if I was the janitor I'd be moving because there could be a horde of scientists coming after him. I'm livid just READING this
But, on September 17, the janitor heard what he later called “annoying alarms,” according to the suit. In apparent attempt to be helpful, he flipped the circuit breakers, which provided electricity to the freezer, mistakenly turning them from “on” to “off,” according to the lawsuit. It said the freezer’s temperature rose to -32 degrees Celsius.
The next day, research students found the freezer switched off and despite attempts to preserve the research, a majority of the cultures were “compromised, destroyed, and rendered unsalvageable demolishing more than twenty years of research,” the lawsuit states.

Pink Cashmere I am super glad that your and Mister's home, and your house where your Mom lives are okay. And I'm Dancing Banana happy that power outages have not resulted in Mister's dad being back with you. Every time I think about the whole clogged toilet issue, I have an urge to commit an act of physical violence

Made me sick to my stomach just reading about that earlier It’s nice that they’re not blaming the janitor (read he doesn’t have any assets to go after) but mistakenly is quite the euphemism there. 1M seems pretty minimal for 20 years of research. Also reminded of how at their old house DH set up a UPS for the inlaws bc it was a real bitch to get everything back up and running after a power flicker. Outage while we were there, UPS operated as advertised until MIL went and turned it off bc the beeping was annoying her

Need to call the dentist today to ask if I can stop taking the prophylactic antibiotics…they’re making me nauseated and dizzy and I need to be functional. DS whacked his head on the playground at camp yesterday hard enough to need an emergency pickup and stitches so that was awesome He inherited my anxiety about doctors…just once could he get some of our strengths rather than every last one of our weaknesses? Anyway he can’t submerge in the pool, which is his favorite part of camp, until they come out and we’re going to have to get them taken out during our trip. I kinda feel like we could do it ourselves…maybe I can get my nurse cousin to do it. Losing track of what day it is again primarily bc Monday contained too much stress for one day.

Thanks all! We’ll get through, I might just wait on some other to-do items till after this darn trip. If I try to do too much or let my stress level get too high I get a super fun bonus migraine I did manage to reschedule the post- extraction checkup so it doesn’t interfere with kid pickup. Let’s see, just need to remember to run a load of laundry so I can pack appropriately. Car inspection can be safely bumped to after trip.

Baking a pineapple dream cake because I have had a sweet tooth. I also have a sinus infection, so I deserve some sugar. Update**** I have Covid for the first time. Seems mild, mostly a headache. The vaccine is doing it's job. I feel like there are a lot of first time covid cases on the board lately…you didn’t get a cruise out of it, so cake seems like the least you deserve

This entire week is going to be about medical stuff. In the morning I get to go in and do fasting bloodwork. She tossed in some extra testing to see what is happening with the blood clots. Go back to doctor on Friday to discuss the bloodwork and blood clots.
The yellow highlighter is coming out later today and I will make a list of questions/concerns.
She noticed both legs are swollen so it's back to wearing the compression socks. She said neither leg is completely healed from the clots. Finally a medical professional heard me and gets when I am concerned about. Now to get the referral to a hematologist out of her on Friday.

Gyno sent me for blood work to check hormone levels. It was a very nice office and seemed pretty efficient - was in and out in 40 minutes.
They are scheduling genetic testing since all of my mom's sisters have had at least 1 battle with cancer.

Oh, shit! I have been dragged out of bed on a Sunday night to go empty a -80° freezer that was failing. What sort of idiot unplugs a freezer that is holding the temp, but is likely an alarm misfunction especially with a note on the freezer? TBH, the university contracted out for this service. They bear some culpability too. ETA: I can’t put a price on the contents of any one of our -80° freezers (we had 4). But $1 million does not come close in just the amount of time needed. A single monkey study which costs about $2-3 million just to run, if the samples have not yet been tested would be trashed. My hair just hurts thinking of the loss.

I live in one of the rare spots in MN that doesn't have mosquitoes. We pay for it in the Winter with the weather, but in the Summer it's nice to not get eaten alive. We do get gnats and no-see-ums though.

Our plans have been foiled. We will try again tomorrow. Now my plans include bribing/threatening the peanut to come with us so she can get some reading done while the missy plays at a library.

My former boss got inch worms (eww) at his summer home near the boundary waters. Mosquitoes the size of small airplanes and no-see-ums too. And the biting flies! Oh well. They had a gorgeous view and loons too.

We contract out here as well. UNMC has their own janitorial services and they are required to take the same safety training we are and then additional training pertaining to their jobs. At the company I was at previously they contracted out. I just happened to be there with Peacock one night when the guy came in. He was wearing flip flops and shorts. He proceeded to start cleaning a Biohazard Level 2 lab without any PPE whatsoever. I walked back to Peacock and asked her if I was nuts because I was pretty sure there are at least five signs stating you must be wearing PPE when back here. We complained and the company just shrugged their shoulders. For as big a hissy fit as some of these places have about visitors and making sure you have your badge, validate the people back here have the training/knowledge to be back here otherwise they require supervision, they sure don't give a shit about who is running around the facility after hours.

Speaking of critters. BIG ASS snake on my walking trail last night when I was mowing! I've only seen 2 snakes (besides grass snakes) since moving here 24 years ago and this one was so big. I was going along mowing my trail and saw what I thought was a baby deer or a human arm or leg (seriously thought it was a body for a split second), until I realized it was part of a snake draped over the trail. It brought it's head around for a bit and I'm PRETTY sure it was a bull snake and not a rattler, but I didn't have enough time to process. I was afraid to move in case it was a rattler so just sat still and waited for it to leave on it's own. I know they can strike the length of their body distance away and my leg was maybe 2 feet away from what had to be a 6 foot long snake.
I'm not afraid of snakes, but stumbling basically on top of one that I'm not sure is venomous or not was unpleasant.

Last night a good friend who works tirelessly in the non-profit sector shared an email she received from someone angry that their application for their kiddo to participate in a summer program was rejected. Bear in mind, there were 29 available slots and they received over 170 applications. Submission deadline was May 31, the program is restricted to low-income residents of this county, and applications must be signed by a custodial parent. The applicant claimed her application (received on June 19) was denied because she is Hispanic and a lesbian. Hmmm, no info on ethnicity or sexual orientation is requested on the form. She says she doesn't have one single scrap of paper showing her address (utility bill, drivers license, apt. lease, EBT benefit statement) or her income. And she doesn't have a birth certificate for the child, nor any knowledge of the father's location. But she's gonna get a lawyer to sue by God, 'cause she's sure she's being discriminated against
