We really mixed it up a lot. Usually we did seated dining for breakfast after running through the onboard Starbucks for caffeine (opened at 6:30 a.m.) or the buffet (opened at 5:30 a.m.). We tried seated dining for lunch one day and, after filing a formal complaint with the restaurant manager (complete with photos) of the dangerous contamination of DH's burger (over 1 tbs of hard gristle and many bone shards) we switched to the buffet for lunch. The buffet had really awesome salads and great international food like pho and full-on Indian including lamb curry . We did seated dining every night, including two nights at the "specialty" dining. The first night was at the Italian venue and it was equal to or better than anything we have here in Houston, and I told them so. The second "specialty" night was at the French restaurant. The food was barely edible and the service non-existent, and I told them about that as well. After-dinner drinks and espresso should be served with dessert, not many long minutes later. And I should NEVER have to ask for the return of my room card (which was linked to my CC). Just because Madame has a second glass of wine, does not mean Madame is stupid. Madame is well aware that card can be used to purchase unlimited quantities of jewelry in the onboard shops We ate at the buffet almost every meal. There was just so much to choose from even for breakfast that even my vegan cousin had zero issues heaping her plate. I stuck with the basics of bacon, scrambled eggs and french toast every morning while Carrot had sushi, some indian dish and Starbucks. The service on this ship was phenomenal...even at the buffet! They were still filling our glasses and getting us stuff from the bar. The only semi-grumpy person we met was the one running the robotic bar. I think he was just bored with his job. LOL Sit and watch the robot go and make sure kids weren't ordering.
We might have sort of lived at a particular bar on deck 7 because one of the bartenders was amazing - a way better show than what they had in the theater, even at the adult comedy club. And the bar food was pretty damn fine too - spinach and artichoke dip, awesome wings (our skinny friends from Nebraska ate 12 wings EACH because she said nobody in Nebraska knows how to make good wings). And that particular bar opened at 6:30 a.m. complete with coffee and alcohol, not that I imbibed at that hour. They were packed by 7 a.m. with folks doing the whole mimosa/bloody mary thing

Found a picture of my maternal grandma playing pool.
I didnt know that. Too bad I could have tried to talk her into going to Upstream and pitted her against DH.

The vaccine is doing it's job. Yay for cake! Boo for COVID. Hope it stays a mild case. You deserve more cake.

Been busy and not done yet.
I cleaned and froze 4 bags of peppers and a bag of carrots, we didn't want them to go bad. Then I made cole slaw out of a small head of cabbage, fixed barbecue ribs and had spinach and turnip greens. I mixed my greens but the other 2 just like spinach.
Dinner was good and enough from lunch. I really want the cole slaw but right now might be a bit much on my stomach, so just had a bite.
Now I need to clean the kitty bowls and wash their water bowls for fresh water. And put clean litter in the clean boxes.
Want to wash and fix my hair too.
Pretty much packed, just some clothes and shoes in the big one, some will be left there. And a couple of little toys for grandson, plus a cute purse for DIL, guess I didn't get son anything. Oh well, will cook him something.
And the smaller one, computers, pills, and a change of clothes. Nice having a place furnished and most of the stuff already there. I like that part. I might want to fumigate though when we leave or come up. I fear spiders though I have seen no evidence of any in there.

I agree that this deciding what to make for dinner every night is for the birds. And my vacation does not begin until Saturday. DH is generally no help.

We got the bar package, and couldn't pass a bar without ordering glasses of Kim Crawford Sauv Blanc. We paced ourselves, started early and ended late every day. We were never really more than slightly tipsy. On the last day, we went to every bar and each one was out of Kim Crawford. We got our money's worth. We also much preferred the buffet to the main dining room. We didn't like to have to engage in small talk with strangers at our table.

Yes, on our cruises we went to the dining room once. The group snubbed us, I'm sure because of DD so from then on we went to the buffets. They were very good and we enjoyed our own company.
The ladies at the pool were nice to DD though and she had a ball, so it was good

All passengers were seated privately on our cruise. Sometimes we saw others in the group and waved for them to join us, or vice versa, but usually we had privacy. There were 51 in our travel group and that's as big a group as I can handle

I saw where someone here was having shoes stretched for their mom for bunions.
If you want comfy shoes get Orthfeet. They have wide toe boxes and accommodate bunions and other problems. I love them only shoe I can wear any type of sandals in. The run around $100 a pair but worth every penny. DD had XW feet and I get them for her also. I can't say enough good about them. Another brand is Apex.

I saw a number of families with very active young children as well as some adult special needs children and all were accommodated well. There was a woman there with an adult son who appeared to have Down's Syndrome, and they did dine at the buffet as he was extremely active physically, and exceptionally vocal. He was not able to use utensils to eat, so his table did get pretty messy as he loved tomato soup but had to lick it off his fingers. I think we all admired his mom's patience and resilience.

The internet went out at work mid-day. Of course it's the first week of summer break for the kids, so everyone came in as we are scrambling to figure out what's wrong. Broke out the iPad for running a limited functionality mobilecirc app, boss turned her phone service into a hotspot for wifi for the iPad, and had to remember the 1/2 day of training I had on it months ago. Spectrum wasn't much help on the phone, might get a tech out after 4pm, or Wed!?! Would be the one day boss has to leave early, taking the wifi with her, so other clerk is both on her own tonight and has to do everything offline. Spectrum tech showed up as I was leaving (late), and he was grumpy - his shift ended an hour earlier, he drove 40 minutes to get to us, and he was 1.5 hours from home. It's scary how much we depend on the internet now.

When I went on cruises with my sister, the crew were very kind and helpful. Saw more disabled people there than usual. Maybe because cruise companies are very accommodating and kind . On one cruise with a group of deaf people there were ASL ( American Sign Language) interpreters at meals, on excursions and entertainment. The cruise line provides these for no charge. When I found out, next cruise I went with my DSis, the line provided 2 ASL interpreters for her. Interpreters always work in teams cause it’s a difficult job. Very nice!

We also cruised with many visually impaired people and those using motorized wheelchairs. And all staffers were super understanding of DH"s hearing loss as, even with his aids he misses a lot of words spoken to him

On hold with TMobile. DD#2 has saved her pennies so she can go on a trip to Portugal with her boyfriend. She wants me to have international calling added to her phone line because "I need to be able to call you if I'm being murdered."

Today was Lil Momma’s birthday, DGD2, who turned 3yo. They spent the night here because it was convenient since they were out this way yesterday and they were supposed to celebrate pool side at one of DD’s friends’ house that lives near me. But the friend’s house lost power yesterday due to the storm, and even though you don’t need power to play in a pool, you do need it for other things if you are entertaining, and the friend had a lot going on due to the power loss, so the pool thing didn’t happen. Which was understandable. So DGD2 had ice cream for breakfast this morning because that’s what she wanted and it’s her birthday, and that’s why it’s been a whole day of playing and catering to her. When we sang Happy Birthday to her after lighting candles on her birthday cake, she sat there grinning and looking happy as could be. Simple things really do matter. Kiddo was supposed to go home yesterday, but I told Mister he could stay, since my grandchildren were here, and Mister let him. On one hand, Kiddo really is a good kid overall, or could be, but on the other hand, he’s a lot of work. DGS and DGD1 don’t really know what to do sometimes, because he does and says things that they would get in trouble for and they don’t want anything to do with it. I ended up sending him to timeout today, making him go sit in the bedroom with no tv, so he could get himself together. DD had made grilled cheese and ham sandwiches for the kids, cut them in quarters, and piled them on a plate on the table for the kids to grab and eat as much as they wanted. Kiddo decided to move the plate next to him and lean over it while he was eating, and decided to keep belching over it. Stinky belches. Which made my Grandchildren not want to eat it, so they snitched. It just so happened that right before they snitched, I was in the kitchen and heard DGD1 say “ewww, why do you keep belching over the food”. He told me he wasn’t trying to belch on the food, as if he hadn’t moved the plate close to him and wasn’t purposefully eating just a few inches above it, and as if it only happened once by accident, instead of constantly, several times back to back. He’d been doing and saying crazy shit since last night after Mister went to bed, and I was over it. His Mom sent somebody over here to pick him up later this afternoon. I was willing to let him spend another night here, but I was also kind of relieved that he left. The whole vibe changed when he left, it was instantly much calmer and more quiet. Not only does he talk a lot, he’s very loud and doesn’t seem to know what an inside voice is. He constantly blurts out stuff, very loudly, like yelling, and that works my nerves in addition to all the talking. He’s also a smartass among other things, but he has an impressively extensive vocabulary and between that and the way he speaks, if I could mask his voice to sound like an adult, many times it would be believable that it was an adult speaking. He just does way too much. I was willing to let him stay another night, but I’m not mad that he went home. I’ve never dealt with a child like him and he requires a lot of attention and energy and I’m running low on patience and tolerance in general. I need both to deal with him by myself, and I gotta work on it.

Baking a pineapple dream cake because I have had a sweet tooth. I also have a sinus infection, so I deserve some sugar. Update**** I have Covid for the first time. Seems mild, mostly a headache. The vaccine is doing it's job. The cake sounds marvelous! And you do deserve it. But I'm sorry to hear you have Covid. I hope it doesn't get any worse.

There is a lot of damage from the storm yesterday. DD was at by a grocery store near my house when it started. The lights went out at the store, but customers stayed out until the store management finally told them to leave. By the time she headed back to my house, it was over and she said trees were down everywhere, a lot of them blocking streets, and a lot of people were outside all over everywhere, looking at the damage around their homes. One man had a huge tree that fell on all 3 of his cars. She said he was just standing there shaking his head and looking pitiful. There are also a lot of people without power. From looking at FB posts and pictures on the news, it’s really bad. Huge trees fell on houses, large branches tore through roofs, trees took down power lines. I’m not really surprised, because I was in the garage with the door up, watching it. I was shocked that the basketball goal fell over. The bottom is full of idk what, to weight it down, and there’s more heavy stuff on top of the base. I can’t move it, but that’s not saying much lol. A couple of big branches fell off our tree, but they fell out in the yard and didn’t damage anything. The deck got rearranged. I’m glad I let the umbrella down and moved it in front of the chimney, because it fell over. The sofa and chairs, fell over, the wood screen with the planters at the bottom moved, the grill moved halfway across the deck, my lemon tree and heavy pot with rosemary in it fell over. And there’s debris from the tree all over the deck. I JUST cleaned the deck Saturday afternoon. Oh and part of the remnant of a fence along the back of our property came down. But none of that even comes close to what other people are dealing with. I’m just sharing what happened here, not complaining. I’ll take all of that over the serious damage a lot of other people have. I saw something on FB where a lot of people called in to work today because they had to deal with damage to their property. Yeah that! Glad your daughter is okay, and you too. It sounds traumatizing. And it sounds like the kids had a good time in the sprinklers. I'm glad you stopped to enjoy watching them. 🥰

If my kid is going to be home sick he should BE SICK. This yelling and screaming at the computer playing video games (last night until after I went to bed at midnight) does not make me feel too sorry for him or think he should be staying home with me serving him. If he can do that he can go to work.

I love the cruise ship buffets. Lots of variety but do love the formal dining rooms for breakfast DSis loved buffets anywhere since she had limited reading ability. Reading about all of you going on cruises is making me envious! And I should NEVER have to ask for the return of my room card (which was linked to my CC). Just because Madame has a second glass of wine, does not mean Madame is stupid. Madame is well aware that card can be used to purchase unlimited quantities of jewelry in the onboard shops while those are my hours at home, those are very much NOT my hours on any cruise I've ever taken lol.... I've mentioned at least a few times about my adventures with NCL and their atrocious safe food handling practices, as far as accommodating food allergies. my practice is generally to have a solid breakfast - closer to 11 or noon - and then carefully snack as needed the rest of the day. breakfast is almost always toast/toasted English muffin with bacon and dippy eggs from the omelet station, and a side plate of cantaloupe and/or honeydew melon.

If he can do that he can go to work. Agreed. If you're too sick to go to school, or work, you're too sick to play video games. I can hear my mom saying that, still (only we didn't have video games, back then). And I said the same thing to my kids.

While we always get up at 6 am when home, I wasn't exactly planning to do that on vacay. However, the land of the midnight sun (literally the sun set at 11 pm or midnight and rose at 3:30 am) had other plans so we got up 5'ish most mornings. Except when we had an early departure and got up at 4. I learned to keep a diet soda and energy bar in the cabin for early morning fuel

We had a routine for deciding where we wanted to eat. If we were getting together as a group (there were 6 of us), we’d look at the posted menu to decide where we wanted to go. I guess it was about 50/50 buffet and restaurant for dinner. If it was just TD and I, breakfast was always at the buffet unless we missed it (it shut down at 9:30). Then we’d go to the living room which had coffee and pastries, or the lounge which had those, plus fresh squeezed juice. Lunch was either at the buffet or the grill. If you were hungry on a Viking ship, it’s not their fault.

while those are my hours at home, those are very much NOT my hours on any cruise I've ever taken lol.... I learned to keep a diet soda and energy bar in the cabin for early morning fuel The sun never set on part of our cruise at the end. People clapped when the captain announced that sunset would be at 1:40 am and sunrise was 1:48 am. Getting up to pee at 2 am and seeing sun really screws with your brain.

If you were hungry on a Viking ship, it’s not their fault. I think that's pretty much every cruise ship! There were 19 places to eat besides the buffet on ours and the buffet was only closed a couple hours a day for the switch overs between meals. My main worry about my plan of living on a cruise ship long term ( ) is that I'd gain 150 pounds.

Yeah that! Glad your daughter is okay, and you too. It sounds traumatizing. And it sounds like the kids had a good time in the sprinklers. I'm glad you stopped to enjoy watching them. 🥰 Thank you. I called my Mom to see if she and the other house were okay. She said everything was fine. Which is awesome, since over the 20+ years since I bought that house, the power tends to go out just if the wind blows a little. And there are a lot of huge, mature trees and some of them uproot and/or fall every year since I first bought the house. I’ve seen huge trees that uprooted most of a front yard when they fell on a house. But that part of the area didn’t get the worst of the storm, the north and northeastern part of the area, including where I live, got the worst of it and the most damage. Mister’s Dad’s house loses power as easily as my other house does, and his power is still out right now. The kids seem to have had a great day. Like I’ve said several times before, one of my greatest joys about living here is providing a space with plenty of room for our children to run around and play outside. That really does make my soul happy. Even just watching the dogs run around wild and free in the backyard makes me happy that our home has the space for them to do that. While the kids were running around outside, they climbed the tree again. They seem to like doing that. I could never, and never have, because… bugs. But I don’t want to poison them with my own fears and hang ups, so I’ve never stopped them even though it makes me kind of nervous. Even if one of them falls out of the tree, I might get some flack from their parents, but to me, kids playing outside and doing stuff like climbing trees, like children use to do, is better than staying inside with their faces glued to a screen. So I’m willing to get “in trouble” for letting them climb the tree whenever they want to. Before Kiddo left, DD made a fort for the kids that basically covers the whole living room. There’s not any real furniture in there, so there was plenty of room to make a big one. They love it! I think it’s kind of impressive myself, and played in it with them for a minute. She’s done a great job of entertaining them today. In addition to the sprinkler, they had egg races and played hide and go seek, and who knows what else that I didn’t see. Today has been a good day.

The sun never set while we were in Northern Norway, above the Arctic Circle and in northern Iceland, We were on an ATV excursion in Isafjordur, Iceland and at 9 pm, it looked like 3 in the afternoon. This really does jack around with your sleep patterns. I never realized how much we use sun setting cues to sleep.

It is way past my bedtime, but tomorrow is one of my regularly scheduled days off work, so whatever….. I am still outside with DD and my Grandbabies. But not on the deck, on the garage side of the house.

Good morning, royalty of Y Ma'am sharing your travels and gourmand choices, or your home-centered frolics and follies. Welcome to Tuesday. I hope your day offers levity and joy, and your choice of lunches. It's pouring here right now with thunderstorms. It's supposed to continue all day. I guess the planned Civil War interest group picnic planned for 5 today will be rescheduled. I, too, am having trouble adjusting to Real Life after cruising, where the service is attentive and options for dining are plenty and wonderful. By contrast the service here at home kind of stinks. But I'm working on it. Yesterday was heavily overcast in the morning. I saw my flock of egrets, fishing from the jetty while cororants swam by.
