I can understand it. In today's culture of true crime mania I can see talking yourself into believing you are paranoid because come on would your wife really be that obvious and poison your sandwich? There are a lot of other things the signs of poison can be. Arsenic for example builds up in your system over time so if you are ingesting small doses you may not put together that someone is putting stuff in your drink you may put it down to the flu or seasonal allergies. What I want to know is how we in this small universe of Y Ma'am have so many so learned in the ways of poisons and poisonings, and what we should understand from that? You never read Flowers in the Attic?

I am sitting on the deck with the dogs and some good music playing. I am smoking a pork butt on the grill. A good time for me. I was originally in a not so good mood because Boy kept interrupting my sleep last night, so I’ve been awake since about 3am. But then Mister called with some great news, his disability claim with the VA was finally approved. He’s been working on that for about 5 years and I’m so happy for him that it’s finally approved, especially since so much negative stuff has been happening for him for a while now. Him finally getting some good news about something that excited him improved my mood.

Last night we had dinner with the other 9 world cruisers on board who are getting off in NYC. I learned some interesting things. When I got Covid, I did what I was supposed to do and got tested. I isolated with a positive test. One person, an MD no less was hacking all over the ship. God knows how many she infected, but she knew she was positive (she told one of the women she infected who was at dinner last night) and continued to hack. She refused to go to the med center and get tested, and they couldn’t force her to. Selfish people. There were an incredible number of entitled people on the ship. Then there was the story of the panty thief. Apparently one woman was convinced that there was a panty thief after an event that happened in the laundry room (a short woman needed help putting clothes in the dryer, so a woman waiting for her dryer to end helped her. A taller woman came into the laundry room and removed panties from the dryer.). Now this can be easily explained….my best guess was that there were no fewer than 20 same sex couples on this cruise. Same sex couple, spouse accidentally put partners panties into the dryer, and the partner went to retrieve them? Anyway, a pantry thief rumor started. So this woman writing a blood brought 14 pair with her in FL. By the time she got to Indonesia she had 8 pair (2+ months later). The panty thief struck! Now……panties and socks stick to the tub of the washer, and there is a spot in the dryer that you have to fish clothes out of. I triple check both, but many don’t and we have frequently found socks and panties in our loads that aren’t our’s. We take them back to the laundry room. So she went to the GM complaining and wanted cameras put up in the laundry room. There were laundry room battles, and deck 5 where we were seemed like it was the epicenter. 2 guys came to blows because one guy left his clothes in the dryer 10 min after it stopped. Another guy removed the clothes, put his clothes in the dryer and decided to fold the clothes he had removed. The owner of the clothes saw him folding his wife’s panties, and hit the guy with his cane. Guy folding clothes slugged him back. Both got tossed off the ship in Hawaii, with their partners. That was an expensive 15 day cruise! Gah, the selfish ones (who should know better) are the ones that really get my goat! There was a dude in the library Sat who commented on my mask (still wearing a mask?) but then proceeded to hack the whole time he sat using a computer, enough that another patron was pissed. That's why I still wear a mask out, dude. It's really struck me how often you've brought up laundry as a pain point on your cruise - the cruise line obviously needs to fix that. But I feel bad for the guy who was doing a nice thing and folding the clothes he removed. In college I remember lots of people just dumping a load on a table to get their load in immediately. He didn't deserve to get hit with a cane, or especially get tossed off the cruise. I can't say I'd never hit back if someone struck me first!

I still mask in public because of entitled selfish people who refuse to test. Or if they test, they just do whatever they want and do not wear a mask.

I have done quite a bit of cruising on Viking, and have never seen as many problems as I have on the world cruise. I have also never seen as many entitled people either. One of the friends I made and I were talking about it. She said if you are on this cruise, you have enough money to plunk down 6 figures for a vacation. That’s serious money, and a lot of wealthy people in a relatively small place. You are no more special than anyone else. Most of the people we met were extremely nice, down to earth and didn’t act entitled. Those were the people we hung with, and who have our phone numbers and address.

I'm wondering what it will take to bribe someone to change a thread title for me. just seeing the name Ozempic in the title is triggering that godawful earworm of a jingle, made from a song I already hated.

When I tell y’all I am having an awesome morning, I really am. The music is hitting just right and the weather is perfect, warm but not too hot, and there’s a nice breeze. I haven’t grilled by myself in years, Mister took over the grilling and I let him. But I haven’t lost all my skills, the temperature is on point. Grilling is relaxing to me when the smoke and temperature cooperate.

DH and I went to dinner to celebrate his birthday (62, SS checks start soon!). We went to Korean BBQ place and it was really good. It was all you can eat, you just pick which meats and veggies you want. Ordered with server, but food was brought to table by a robot. Really cool.

Ugh! I found out a woman was shot last night in a community DH & I used to live in. I don't like the increasing violence in the city at all, but I also don't like that it is spreading so far outside of the city. If you're a woman driving alone, you shouldn't have to worry about some idiot pulling up next to you & shooting at you. (I suppose there is more to the story, but still...)

Another one here who dealt with meds that can be fatal if misused. Jerseyguy teases me but maybe he’s secretly wary??
Agatha Christie was a pharmacist in WW1, she learned then all about poisons that were part of her plots in her crime books

Well, my interviewing must be getting better. I have a second interview. I am also trying to decide what to do about three more jobs that I should apply for. It's going to take me about 8 hours to apply for those jobs. I don't want to spend the time applying for nothing, and I also don't want to miss opportunities.

Yes! Much. He's still noticeably not sound to anyone that knows horses, but before he was to anyone that didn't.

I had access to lots of chemicals once upon a time that could have done some nasty things. TBH, I was more concerned about not harming me than someone else. That doesn’t mean that I don’t know how to do someone in, and likely undetected. But I really can’t think of anyone worth the risk (other than TD when he drinks too much and snores like a diesel engine in need of an overhaul!). But….he still amuses me so I suffer.

YD just asked me what happened to her 2 liter Mountain Dew. It’s in the door to the refrigerator and she didn’t see it.
I don’t ask that when I buy a 6pack of soda and put them in the refrigerator and they disappear before I even get one. Or when I make iced tea and only get to drink one glass before it’s gone.

Same only with a giant box of Cheezits. I bought it a couple of weeks ago and I can't find it now. I've looked all over and either my kid took it with her somewhere or I'm going to find it in the most stupid place 6 months from now. How hard is it to keep track of a family sized box? We have a loft area that DD1 primarily uses. There’s a couch and TV along with a moveable coffee table, counter space, cabinets, and drawers. It’s a Roku TV that DD1 hardly uses except the aquarium screen saver on it. DD1 tends to watch things on her iPad instead. Anyway, DH decided to stay upstairs today and looked for 2 hours for the remote. He even called me to see if I knew (I didn’t). In the end, he downloaded the Roku app on his phone and used that. Later he brought DD2 home from daycare and stayed upstairs with him. Somehow, DD2 found it and put it in a spot that DH found it in. DD2 doesn’t really talk so she can’t tell us where it was. 🤣🤣 Life’s mysteries!! We'll see if this link works, but I have a few of theses stashed in a drawer. When I find the one that was originally lost, I put it in the drawer. I found 3 of them in my couch one day. All but one went back in the drawer. a.co/d/fBaeWpU

It also amazes me at some of the normal adulting skills I'm missing. I'm 47. I've never negotiated a salary before. I've never quit a professional job. I was 19 the last time I quit a job. It was a student job.
I know I'm putting the cart before the horse and all that. But it is crazy to reflect on. And also, I'm getting imposter syndrome massively.

Six juveniles from 12-14 (yikes!!) just arrested in next town for stealing a car. Seen on ring doorbell at 3am taking a red car from a driveway. When car wouldn’t stop, Police started a high speed chase but ended it due to safety concerns. Car crashed afterwards nearby and 3 kids taken into custody. Other three were found shortly later. All released to parents except one who already had a monitoring device on back to Essex county youth house. Sadly don’t see a good future for these kids and sadly not a good future for folks who work hard What kind of a dumbass commits a crime wearing an ankle monitor?

So my office is moving, again. This move should be more permanent; they signed a five year lease. It's really hot outside and I moved my IT stuff. The freaking thermostat had dead batteries so the AC wasn't working. Anyway, I got batteries and fixed that. I'm taking a long lunch while it cools down in there.

I've never negotiated salary either. Starting out in academics kinda warped my ability to navigate those things. I'm still working on it. I read things here and get confused because it never seems to work out for me like that here in Omaha. Either I am doing something wrong or Nebraska is its own planet. Maybe both? I've walked out on two jobs as everyone here knows. I hit a bottle neck at UNMC so made my move before I got laid off again. Sometimes I think I made the leap too fast because I've been drifting every since I should have put more thought into it. I left my last job professionally but I'd never be able to work there after I went scorched Earth with my exit interview. It doesn't prevent me from getting rehired but the place is too small and I really threw down the gaunlet over some people.

I use recruiters and let them negotiate. They get paid based on what kind of salary they get me, so they have incentive to get me as much as possible. I also make sure that my minimum base salary before any bonus or incentives are at least $10K more than what I currently make. If I'm going to move, it better be worth it.
