Y'all need to move down here by me. There's a really nice 1,400 sq ft, 3 bedroom, 2 bath with large yard and storage shed renting for $1,850 plus utilities and yard maintenance, just a few blocks over. I'm a good neighbor

I sent a nastygram to Aldi tonight because the package of frozen stir-fry mix that said "Broccoli florets, sliced carrots, sugar snap peas, and Water Chestnuts" contained 70% carrots, 25% broccoli, 2 sugar snap peas and 1 slice of water chestnuts. But it was still tasty with the chicken breast and teriyaki sauce

Once, I bought frozen mixed vegetables, because I figured they would have more nutritional content. The frozen vegetables was mostly corn. I went back to buying the canned mixed vegetables.

I'll admit, I'm considering it this year...I hate shopping that much. Although ours aren't that expensive, the worst is 1st grade which is 80 something. Carrots would be $52. I need to look over what we have though because I'm guessing there are new packages of pens and pencils and notebooks scattered all over the house in various locations. The peanut's is 110. We keep a bin of extras in the basement. And shopping loss leaders is one of our summer activities.
DD1 gets giggity over school supplies.
I think last year we spent something like $250 on four kids, including gym shoes. And I bought supplies to donate, too.
3 years ago we did an "adopt a child" thing at our then-church for back-to-school. Was that ever an eye-opening experience for childless us. I had no clue about the supply lists and costs. Fifth graders need a graphing calculator Sixth graders need how many thumb drives?

Too bad though he didn't go ahead and install the orange. That would have made her head explode and the entire neighborhood would probably be clapping. BTW, good catch and great analysis earlier.

Idk, I think I would’ve just built the kind of fence I wanted, a privacy fence, and told her to kick rocks in flip flops and leave me the fuck alone. And if she didn’t heed my warning, just go ahead and call the police because I will try to ignore you acting a fool UNTIL/UNLESS you come onto my property acting a fool with me. I consider that begging me to beat your ass, and I believe in giving people what they ask for. I am very, very serious about my home (including my yards, my entire property) being my haven. Catch me in the street, don’t come on my property acting a fool with me. It’s just NOT going to go well for either of us, because I WILL fight you for insisting on interrupting my peace at my home and because I grew up in the hood with people bigger than me fighting me for no reason and I got in trouble for not fighting back or losing a fight, I do not fight fair. So just go ahead and call the police and an ambulance before you even step on my property with some drama and stupid shit.

Holy shit! She's been at it that long and she hasn't faced any consequences at all? 😳 Nope. Cops got much bigger fish to fry Sounds like her life is so pathetic her only outlet is trying to piss her neighbors off. Sounds like the best tactic then is to be indifferent to her. Notice nothing she does; acknowledge her not at all or treat her something not so important.

Carrots are cheaper than sugar snap peas, mushrooms, water chestnuts, etc. I've stopped buying certain mixes because I don't want to stir fry mostly carrots with my protein.

You can still get a 2 bedroom house around for less than $1000 a month here. But they were in short supply before the tornado and now no supply. If one comes empty, people jump on it. About 200 houses were totally destroyed or damaged beyond repair. A few are standing but nothing done to them yet except some tarps on the roof.
Then they demolished a bunch of bad houses like 40 or so in town. They are starting to build new ones, 4 have been built so far I believe and they plan 37 more single family. Prices are $200k or less, intend to be reasonable. I saw one of them, built new on a town lot, has a 2 car garage and hardy plank on the outside. Nice looking house, I'm sure its not upper end on the inside but they are fine. We have quite a few new ones being built in the rural areas or manufactured homes. There were old farm houses and most have outlived their lives. If people want to live rural they are building new. A lot of them are on farms the families own. We know of one family that owns probably 50 acres and as the kids married they built new houses on the outer edges where the parents lived. About 5 of them now. Both parents died and they had the parents home empty, not sure if anyone is in it yet and its been going on 3 years now. Maybe they have a kid or grandkid going to get that one, seems like that could be an issue. It's old but had been completely redone, very nice.
People have bought some in our tiny town, but about half the housing is nice and the other half in poor repair. People would love to move here but again available housing is an issue. I noted today one that has been empty for 10 years someone has bought, we thought about it. They have put on a new roof and looks like are gutting it, it will be nice and cheaper than new and has a big yard. Saw another they are doing the same all new windows so far. I like to see that, people here are big on home ownership.
Son was kind of teasing his wife. We were going to share money from house sales with them, than bought this place. Son said there goes your new cabinets. He is throwing everything he can get toward their house debt, well that and savings. Hubs and I will discuss, we may give them some from the sale of this house coming up, depends on how much we get from it though and the taxes owed. We have to think a bit on it, he knows its going to cost for 2 places so may not be able to do so. But he may still be able to get the cabinets and he and hubs put them in. Would save a bundle.
Ok, bath time, I need to vac my bedroom real quick, the rest are done.

Yep, same here on frozen mixed veggies, they are filling them with the cheap stuff and throwing in just a bit of the rest. I stopped buying them too. I will go to the city and buy small quantities of what I want and make my own mix, won't cost much.
I do want a few ears of corn and some green beans to fix one day. Will pick them up next time in the city.

Yeah, I just really, really hate shopping. I would rather stay an hour late at work and make $40 than spend an hour at Target. I guess I could just order it all online...I don't know. He's 8th grade, those lists can't be much more than suggestions at this point.
Speaking of hating shopping. I ran to the shoe store while Carrot was at tennis tonight to get my work shoes and THEY NO LONGER CARRY DR. MARTEN ESD SHOES!! I have been wearing the same ones for 24+ years. They fit well and last forever. Go in, no need to try on, just grab my size and go. I was so thrown off kilter by this. I browsed for a while, became overwhelmed, and walked out with my voucher.

question for some of you (I know there's more, but andi9899 is the only one coming to mind at the moment). I should also post this in the tax forum, I think. what's the personal tax impact to be working remote from your home, for a company located in another state? trying to educate myself in advance of negotiating salary/benefits/bonuses for remote opportunities. TIA! You only pay taxes for the state you live in. Even though my office is in TX, I'll only pay KS state taxes along with federal.

Honestly, I'm surprised they haven't at least fined her for taking up needed police officers. I live in a pretty big and densely populated city and I guarantee you that if I was walking around nude and someone called about me, I'd have some explaining to do.

We were talking about current events and I was mentioning some drama on tik tok. I was saying how I don't get involved in drama, but I'm so down for watching other people's drama. Then I mentioned this and how if I was you, I'd basically live on my front porch. He laughed so hard.

Also, the guy who works at the gym that has been asking me out went full on creeper yesterday. He was there yesterday when I never see him on Tuesday. Fine, it's a free country. Go to the gym when you want. However, I was doing my boxing class last night and I noticed him out of the corner of my eye. He was sitting in a piece of equipment facing us just staring. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt, but I was uncomfortable. He has one more time to ask me out and I'm going to not be nice. I'm telling him in no uncertain terms that if he doesn't stop that I'm complaining to the gym about him. I don't want to mess with anyone's job, but he can't keep doing this.

OMG. They found the woman the remains of the woman that disappeared from my town. So, relieved. They locked her ex up immediately. I was so worried he was going to get away with this. She's been gone for 10 weeks and not to be disgusting, but with all the wildlife around here, a 250 pound road kill deer is completely gone within a couple weeks. I was losing hope and he was walking around town like nothing happened and had hearings to get custody of the kids coming up. I hope he gets locked up forever and if any of his family was involved they go down with him. They found her clothing at an aunt and uncles house of his and his Dad has been super sketchy from the beginning.

I prefer to live where I am, with no bars on the windows and where people often don't lock their doors. And no guns.

Crap. Looks like we have gone from level orange (Tuesday) to red yesterday and now purple! Just one level under actively hazardous to your health. I guess this is worthy cracking out the KN95 mask for. Wonder though if the buses will not run? Oy. I was thinking red today and then back to orange tomorrow. Yep, we are in the very unhealthy category. I'm going to start praying they close work even most workers besides me drive so they have it much better. Air quality level 232 right now. Scale ends at 300. Left work on Tuesday at 107. Yesterday was 164-167?

MPL, that's so sad, and yet relieving like you said. I'm not sure what prompted it, but I was thinking of her the other day. thanks for the update.
I'm awake, but laying in bed doing my morning catch-up on phone stuff. I just heard my Teams ping on my laptop out in the kitchen. that's honestly going to keep me here longer. 🙄

There's a lady in my hometown who disappeared in December. The ex cop she left the bar with swears he dropped her off at home. Conveniently she left her wallet, keys and cell phone on the bar when she left. I would never and imagine most women wouldn't either.
The reward is up to $100,000. They dragged the hell out of a local park on the edge of the county line back in January but nothing came up.
My dad and I think he dumped her body in one of the multiple rivers in the area. He was a cop he'd know how to make sure the body didn't float up.
A cousin told me multiple women have gone missing under similar circumstances since this guy moved to town. I hope they catch him.
We are in purple today. Yesterday was rough even in indoors.

The fence grid is 4" x 4", a bit larger than chicken wire and a tad heavier, but basically the same. You are most welcome to come sit and watch

Because of this thread I was thinking about fences when I was driving around waiting for Carrot to get done with tennis last night. so I was checking out yards in town. I'd say half in town don't have them, but of the ones that do, the most common backyard fence is definitely picket or wrought iron around 3 feet tall, then chain link, very few privacy fences. But, like I said before, the yards in town are small. A full lot is 50 feet wide, and many houses are on half or 3/4 lots. When your yard is 25' x 30' a 6 foot tall solid fence all around makes it seem even tinier and you get no breeze.

soupandstew, many, MANY, years ago I used to watch a couple of Soap Operas, but your neighborhood beats them all as far as plots, drama, and an "addiction" to finding out what's going to happen next!
Is it possible at all for you to post a picture or two of the now "famous" fence?
