I should have known better. It was going to be thrown in my face eventually. I have a right to question why she's being charged for 186 Tylenol but apparently since it's medical they can tell me it's because they said so. Okey dokey. And the peanut gallery wonders why family stops being involved or showing up after awhile. so what happens when you and your father go in together to ask about this? that's both medical and financial POA right there.

I'm honestly tired and so is he. I got about three months left before the state takes over. I'm keeping my head down. Fuck it. This and other old people stuff has consumed too much of my life.

susana1954 I understand that the situation of selling and renting back leaves more "maybes" and "what ifs" in your situation than you enjoy. Like you, I prefer things clear cut and nailed firmly down. BUT I really think selling is the right thing for you. As others here have said, you will be ready to go with a solid offer the minute something goes on the market in the community you want. Your current house hasn't been a good friend to you over the past year, and I'm just grateful your injuries haven't been any worse than they were.

I was in a panic a couple years back when I thought I was going to be unable to walk. For me I got really lucky in finding someone to help with my weight. But if it had not happened I would now be in a world of hurt. I know I am one of the rare ones that was able to pull myself back at my age and believe me I am thankful. I am finding walking up and downstairs more is helping me be more stable and developing muscles in my legs again. I need to use my exercise equipment down there too, I just need to do it. Not raising a garden and canning is giving me a lot more time. Am I like I used to be, of course not, but its a vast improvement. Now if only I could get DD to move more, I had to help her walk at the festival the other day and that is just of her own doing, lying in bed all the time. But she has no interests, she used to try and do all kinds of things, but poor girl doesn't have good fine muscle control, can't follow directions, so someone has to help her do anything. So I think she just finally gave up. She can't read well and knows it and they would put her in the low reading group and it hurt her feelings. She is smart enough to know but yet lacking so, it must be incredibly frustrating for her. So I am going to have to help her get around! I can't do that forever either. We had lunch, her a cheeseburger, me just a burger with pickles, no bread. The only kind of bread I really like is home baked bread and I rarely make it. I did get my laundry room closet cleaned, that was dirty and now have room for cleaning products in the bottom plus some boots. Also I did something I rarely if ever do, I pitched a small wastebasket of makeup from my makeup drawer. That sure needs done more often. I have a storage container in my closet that I'm going through and donating the stuff or pitching, I have another bag started for it. Need to finish dressing and run to town to pay the attorney and pick up a couple of things at the store. Not all the stuff I was going to do, but I'm doing things that need done. And laundry of course, always laundry. Perhaps being freed from the misery of chronic migraines will help her enjoy activities more. She did go to the festival and then went to the city with you and that seems like an improvement because you said in Washington she wouldn't even get out of the car and walk through stores with you. Maybe that's just my wishful thinking for her improvement but...

Sadly, this is our new reality Thanks I don't know if I mentioned this before. I talked to the super. Someone moved out upstairs and the workers had to renovate the kitchen. It's the same apartment that I have...two bedrooms. They're asking $1,800 a month. I'm paying $940, and I moved in just 3 years ago. I know things have gone up, but DOUBLE my rent? It's outrageous!

question for some of you (I know there's more, but andi9899 is the only one coming to mind at the moment). I should also post this in the tax forum, I think. what's the personal tax impact to be working remote from your home, for a company located in another state? trying to educate myself in advance of negotiating salary/benefits/bonuses for remote opportunities. TIA!

I talked to my author guy for about 6 minutes this afternoon. He asked me 3 times when I'm leaving on vacation and where I'm going . This makes me very, very sad.

The mobile is painted. Hubs was putting the downspouts on the guttering back up. He said he did touchups for some overspraying but DIL said he missed a lot of places so she went back over those areas. They didn't have the awnings up yet and I'm thinking he should have painted them blue. They have metal pieces on them and he said he showed DIL how to snap them out in case I decide blue looks better. She sent a video and it really looks nice. Now let's hope the park people paint the other 2 buildings like they said they would. If they don't I will.
So hubs is going to buy her and little guy dinner and pay $60 for her to have her nails redone. He didn't offer to pay her anything, I don't know about that. I don't think she expected it but he has bought quite a few meals and we have given them a lot of money and her a car so I guess its ok. We bought her a new one when they moved back here 2 years ago.
I am going to redo DD's bathroom, wish we didn't have the green tub and the sloppy white caulk they put around it. I will likely buy some remover and take it off and redo it very neatly. I'm wondering if the home owner did that, as everything else they did in there was very nicely done. If we keep it long enough will likely redo the carpet too, It's not the best and has not been laid right. You are supposed to be able to sweep it all one direction, I think they lay it anyway it would fit. And I'm pretty sure we will put in a heat pump for heating and cooling, sounds like its the perfect temps for it up there and should reduce our electric bill.

I apologize for not already knowing this and being too lazy at the moment to google it, but what started these fires?
We've had no rain and lightning starts most of them. Then there's human stupidity, like campfires when it's bone dry. I am sorry you have to deal with. We have had this here in CA for several years in a row and it sucks big time. At least with all the rain and snow we have had it looks like our fire season (and it will come!) is postponed for a few months this year.

Weltz, will they raise your rent like that? We know our lot rent will go up at the park, just hope its not a huge increase. We figure $50 a month, or hope that is all.
I think I will sew later tonight. Want to see if that blouse turns out ok.
I need to empty the trash can in the basement, its pretty full.
Purchased broccoli, half and half, and shredded cheese to make some broccoli cheese soup, likely tomorrow night. Also some asparagus and some pollock, never bought those kind of fish before, but they were on sale. Oh and now they are selling 3 pound bags of potatoes for $2.50. Things are so high guess this is how they are trying to deal with it. There were some of the items on sale today so able to buy them locally. I spent $35 for groceries.

TIA! No tax implications for me whatsoever. I live in Pennsylvania and my company is based in Illinois. I had more tax implications when I worked for a company where I was assigned an office in another county, even though we were remote for the pandemic. That triggered a city tax, different township taxes, etc. My company gives everyone a $75 stipend each month to cover internet. A laptop, monitor and docking station were provided to me. I had my own wireless mouse and keyboard that I hooked up. ETA: They also make it abundantly clear at monthly All-Hands meetings that our remote status will never change. They also believe in getting people together, and most teams get together at HQ a few times a year. I love that - actually at the airport to fly home now.

Why is chain link the hill to die on? I know I'd much rather have a 6' privacy fence over 4' chain link any day. Do either have dogs? A 4' fence is way easier for a dog to jump over. Plus, why have people see into your yard if you don't have to? It's a hill to die on for her because (1) it's cheaper and $$ are her god and (2) it's forcing her choice on someone else. Both have dogs, she has 2-3 terrier size-he has 1 mid-size and 2 very large Great Danes. She likes having people see in her yard. She's been feuding with the neighbor on the other side for 30+ years. The police have been called numerous times over the years because she would put up large plywood signs with spray painted insults, profanity and ethnic epithets (neighbor is German). Once they were called because she was walking around her backyard nude with "kiss this, b----- written on her butt cheeks. She would love to do the same going forward against this neighbor, he's Jewish which would give her all sorts of signs to put up or on her body Nothing she does makes sense to sane people unless you remember that money comes over anything else and she hates everyone. Holy shit! She's been at it that long and she hasn't faced any consequences at all? 😳

Maybe someone already said this, but Grandma does not need to be in on this meeting. It should be you and your dad with nursing IMO. Preferably the nursing director. If Grandma wants to remove him, make her do the work. Don't make it easy for her and I would think by now she has to have a reputation with all the staff, and not as a staff favorite. KO?

Do you have a way to fight it? This happened in Florida last year, and one article said parts of Canada are the most expensive rental housing in North America. My unit ,1 bedrm, updated rents for $1800.00 . I managed to limit them to a 5% increase this year, but it only worked I think because they were anxious and people were moving out. Owner wants to rent for market rate since the entire area has jacked rents and the only things being built seem to be luxury apartments where studios often start at $2K month. I just found a note to myself about three apartment complexes because I would have liked not to renew myself and go elsewhere.

My heart hurts. One GrS had to move to another town an hour drive because of rent increases. No one helped him pack and move. Friends have been worn out and expensive gas. He's been challenged with housing. His regular employer ceased business and he's struggling with employment.
One GSIL had a bachelor party. Few people showed up. He's a super guy. Location was our issue at a mid-state camp ground. We aren't prepared for camping anymore. That disappointment won't likely be relieved.
One stepGrS had surgery on his foot twice. Few people are helping. He's another challenged with maintaining a relationship recently, housing and employment. Poor attitude. There is a go fund me set up. This is one GrS who didn't cash gift checks the past 2 years from us. Time for a decision because go fund me keeps 8% the last I heard.
His twin brother had foot surgery, also. This stepGrS has maintained housing and employment with his wife and daughter. He received a lot of help while hospitalized with watching the house, feeding and caring for animals, time off from work. Basically trying to do everything right. My DD, their mother, has gone above and beyond giving her 5 children a boosts up when needed. She works 2 jobs then was asked why one stepS didn't get a hospital visit. May she be continually blessed.

There's a limit as to how much they can raise it for an existing tenant. Mine went up $25 dollars this year because they heat with natural gas, and the price of that has shot up substantially. We have a rental board, the Regie du Logement, that stipulates a landlord can't raise the rent by more than 2.5%, unless heating is included. Mine is. They can charge whatever they want for a new tenant.

It's reasonable. I did a little research and Montreal rents for a 2 bedroom are about $2,100. It's still considered cheap, as it would cost a LOT more in Toronto or Vancouver. I've seen alcoves in peoples' homes in TO going for hundreds and hundreds of dollars, separated from the living room with a curtain. I could never afford to live in TO or Van, unless I had a room mate. Or several. We could sleep in shifts.

So if you order school supplies through a company that delivers school supplies to school, you can expect to pay $100-110/child. And that doesn't even include gym shoes. There are times where I loathe going to a school where money flows. This is one of them.

Although ours aren't that expensive, the worst is 1st grade which is 80 something. Carrots would be $52. I need to look over what we have though because I'm guessing there are new packages of pens and pencils and notebooks scattered all over the house in various locations.

I think one of the best things about this board is the way we are exposed to so many different perspectives on family and other relationships. I see friends and families that are very caring and responsive to one another's needs, and I also see those who have a super transactional relationship with their children, aka "I've given you $$ over the years so you owe me XYZ".
I have two takeaways from this. First, a very wise person told me that if you don't accept the gift of caring, of happily helping you, you are diminishing and demeaning the giver. You are saying they have nothing of value to give you; they are only good enough to work for you. Second, if your relationship with another person is based solely on the $$ you give them and the payback you expect, you will be SOL if the day arrives when you don't have any $$ to give. Love lasts where money doesn't.

He had his office for 3 years and now he's moved in with his woman, leaving me with an extra room I don't need and that I'm paying for. I think it's reasoable that he pays me, considering he makes more money than I do.

So if you order school supplies through a company that delivers school supplies to school, you can expect to pay $100-110/child. And that doesn't even include gym shoes. There are times where I loathe going to a school where money flows. This is one of them. I'll admit, I'm considering it this year...I hate shopping that much. Although ours aren't that expensive, the worst is 1st grade which is 80 something. Carrots would be $52. I need to look over what we have though because I'm guessing there are new packages of pens and pencils and notebooks scattered all over the house in various locations. The peanut's is 110. We keep a bin of extras in the basement. And shopping loss leaders is one of our summer activities.
DD1 gets giggity over school supplies.
I think last year we spent something like $250 on four kids, including gym shoes. And I bought supplies to donate, too.

Fight what? There's nothing to fight. My rent only went up by $25. Ah, so your post was somewhat deceptive. You aren't being asked to have your rent doubled, units renting now are going for that then, correct? A neighbor in the complex has been there longer than I have, and working third shift has had more opportunity to advocate for himself in the recent churn. I think I only came two years after he did. He currently is paying $1625 for a two bedroom townhome. My rent next month will only be short of that by about $40. Of course, I'm not paying any pet fees or extra for another parking spot, also things that landed during the pandemic. He may also have a bit more leverage because of when unemployment screwed up his payments versus my delay. I barely managed to not get behind. He had to be behind for months because UE took at least six months to pay him.

Well, DS has to give me $200 a month. When I was looking for an apartment, he BEGGED me to get 2 bedrooms so he could have a office for his business. He had his office for 3 years and now he's moved in with his woman, leaving me with an extra room I don't need and that I'm paying for. I think it's reasoable that he pays me, considering he makes more money than I do. And that's a fair and square business deal. I'm thinking of folks who speak about having gifted their offspring, creating an obligation. Your son made a contract with you for office space and he's obligated to live up to that contract
