There's a red air quality alert in the weather channel app this morning. Usually it only gets orange when it's really hot and humid. Orange bothers me so I guess I'm stuck with indoor activities today.

We are in port in the Scottish highlands. Today we go to a (single malt) Scotch whiskey distillery. Even though neither of us is fond of whiskey, this seemed like an interesting excursion, and I have relatives who would really appreciate a bottle. Tomorrow we're in Shetland, then on to Norway, which makes me sad. I don't want this to be over. I'm going to the top deck tonight to see if I get sight of the Milky Way. There should be no real light pollution around here. I hope you enjoy! Also, there's no 'e' in whisky We're heading to Scotland next week to see my family. I don't like whisky at all but my (American) husband does so we always visit a distillery and bring back a bottle or two.

Fence Wars, Part Whatever. As background, the house next door to me is owned by a guy who leases it to his brother, my neighbor. My neighbor pays 99% of the maintenance cost and plans to buy it from his brother in a year or two. While I'm getting my haircut this morning, Good Guy Neighbor texts me that Crazy Lady showed up at his brother's house at the crack of dawn Saturday and began waving all her various fence quotes in his face, demanding he share in the cost of said fence. So the owner brother called a contractor to get a quote because GASP he doesn't trust her quotes. It's still a detente - she wants a 4' chain link fence and won't share in the cost of a wooden fence, and the property owner and his brother want a 6' wooden privacy fence. No one is budging. To be continued for a damn long time I fear Détente is a French word that means a relaxing or easing of tension between rivals, especially political ones. I think the word you really want is impasse or similar. (https://www.bing.com/search?q=detente+definition&form=ANNTH1&refig=c7a5c25a1d8347c8a3c38f3af01ca8fd&sp=2&lq=0&qs=LS&pq=detente&sk=LS1&sc=10-7&cvid=c7a5c25a1d8347c8a3c38f3af01ca8fd) Can the brother not afford the 6 foot privacy fence without her? thank you! You are correct - that's the word I should have used. It's not a question of affordability - it's a question of equity where one person pays 100% of something that benefits two parties. The tenant has already paid out several thousand dollars in materials for the back of the property which he built himself with outstanding workmanship. Materials for the remaining joint side would cost $1800. She refuses to pay a dime for a wooden privacy fence, but wants him to pay 1/2 of the 4' chain link she wants. Wooden privacy fences run about $60/foot currently, more with metal poles like we used on ours and he uses. Re-fencing the three sides of my house would cost in the range of $12,000-$15,000.

But this has nothing to do with me, other than reading the updates, to see if they've come to a conclusion/agreement yet. It might be a long summer for them.

1) is he a Mexican Citizen? 2) Mexico does not care one way or the other. My DH does not have a DUI, but he is from Mexico. His Mexican Passport is expired, but he intends to renew it. It would be much faster to enter Mexico if you have a Mexican Passport. We went to Mexico over New Years, but we both just had US Passports. aside, I got yelled at b/c apparently my DH wanted to take the kids to Mexico when they were babies and register them as citizens of Mexico. He says now it would be ify if they will be granted Mexican Passports. Technically they should be eligible to get them. I believe he is a citizen now. He's at the very least a resident as that was his status when I met him. He's been to jail so many times for many different reasons, I'm not even sure what all for. I used to go on the MO site and just see if there were any more charges since the last time I checked, but I haven't cared enough to check for a long time. he's got to be a citizen, otherwise he would have his green card revoked for multiple criminal convictions.

What’s the difference? Is it simply two different spellings of the same word, or are they two slightly different words describing two separate groups of spirits?
Spelling depends on the spirit’s country of origin; American-produced varieties such as bourbon, rye, Tennessee, as well as the Irish spirit, utilize the “whiskey” spelling, whereas the spirit from Scotland, Canada, and Japan utilize the “whisky” spelling. American and Irish liquor producers and copy editors tend to favor the spelling ‘whiskey’, while Scottish, Canadian, and Japanese producers (and copy editors) tend to favor the spelling ‘whisky’. The difference also carries on into the plural. For ‘whiskey’, the plural is ‘whiskeys’. For ‘whisky’, it’s ‘whiskies’.

I am enveloped in Canadian Wildfire smoke. You can see the particles in the air, visibility is limited, and the streetlights are turning on during the day. The schools are not letting the kids out for gym or recess.
This is ugly.

She wants a chain link fence because it's cheaper and also "I don't want a wood fence because in 20 years I'll have to replace some pickets". In 20 years she will be 85 years old if she lives. Money is her god, and she will do anything to save it or take it from others. She has small dogs; he has Great Danes. Her yard is a nightmare to put it kindly, and she likes to spy on people. His yard is delightfully landscaped, immaculately maintained and he and his wife enjoy their privacy. Her chain link bids do not include removing the old fence posts, just sawing them off at ground level. This isn't really about a fence at all; it's about a neighbor who is finally standing up to her bullying and attempted intimidation. She doesn't know it (yet), but he did record her last drunken, threatening tirade at him.

Crown Royal is a Canadian whisky; any bottle I've seen has no 'e'. Scottish, Canadian, and Japanese whiskies are spelled with no 'e'. American and Irish are spelled with the 'e'. ETA: Left the tab open and didn't refresh before I repeated the info as noted above. Hahaha

I'm frustrated. The last two boxes of Hefty Ultra trash bags I've purchased have both had several defective bags at the beginning of the box. They are sealed across the opening several inches, on each bag.making them useless. It probably takes me 2 months, to go through a box. Maybe longer. But with prices going up like they have been and living solely on Soc Sec (not much, per month), it irritates me to have this happen repeatedly. I contacted them last time, VIA their website, but I didn't get a response. I've been trying to call them for the last 2 days, but no one answers. Several defective bags in each box, is too many to ignore, IMO. I hope I reach them today. 😖

To be continued for a damn long time I fear I think the winning move would be not sharing the cost, getting a surveyor out there and staking his land. Build whatever near her just inside his property line, maybe even in a foot or more if he hopes to catch her trespassing. That would be a Trump lawyer type move and you would want to send a letter certified mail signature required literally showing where the fence would be built and that however many inches outside of the fence is not her property. This however is a rich or richer than neighbor kind of move. Simpler would-be planting bushes or hedges that would grow together. Holly, lilacs, electrified artificial bushes, the possibilities are numerous. How do you think he will maintain that "foot or more" without trespassing on her property? If it's privacy he wants, he can build privacy screens around patios or decks. He wouldn't need her permission for any of that. And then I'd tell her if she wants a chain link fence, she can pay the whole cost. If part of it is already down, I'd agree to pay half the cost to take the rest of it down. Then she can pay the full cost to put up the fence she wants. ETA: Obviously, this wouldn't work if he needs an enclosure for the dogs. Maybe a large dog run? ETA #2: another solution, but the most costly, is they each put up the fence they like, within an inch or two on their side of the property line, and fill in the space with gravel. It wouldn't affect his view. It would affect hers.

That's ok, most people spell it with an 'e' but Scottish whisky doesn't need to add anything extra to either the name or the spelling. In case you didn't realize, I was teasing . The only thing that kind of irritates me is being referred to as "Scotch". People from Scotland are called "Scots" - we might have a reputation for drinking a lot but we haven't actually turned into liquor!

Air quality in Central PA code red. My eyes are watering terribly. Need to stay in AC today. Same in SEPA. I imagine the entire east coast is miserable today. I've lived in this area my entire life and we've always had pretty uneventful weather and other related events. Maybe a blizzard or ice storm in the winter, maybe tropical storms remnants every decade or so. Now we're dealing with regular tornado activity, flooding from hurricanes/tropical storms tracking inland, and introducing wildfire effects from Canada due to weather patterns holding. Yay!

I very rarely complain about products, maybe once a year or less. But when I do, I usually get a coupon for a free product from that company. I share your frustration that when you spend money, you should get a decent product. I'm surprised you didn't get a response the last time. Maybe it's time to switch to a different heavy-duty brand?

Fortunately, all our properties are platted so we don't have to worry about adverse possession; if we erect a fence inside our property lines it doesn't constitute abandonment of the unenclosed property. Although, when we did fence inside our property lines on the other side, I did notify the then-owner that they were welcome to use the unenclosed property for their general interest, but could not erect anything permanent there. The root cause isn't the fence; one individual wants a reasonable solution and the other enjoys chaos and confrontation.

We got a 1/4 inch of rain, I'm thrilled. Things look so fresh. They said we would not get more but I'm seeing precip on the weather map so hopeful for a bit more. The road and sidewalk are wet. I don't know when I've been so happy to see such a small amount of rain even if it means I can't mow today.
I wondered where Smokey was this morning and opened the garage door. He was in the garage all night. Thankfully he has a litter box and a bowl of water out there, but I never intended for him to be out there for sure. I was wondering why he wasn't in bed with me. I then remembered he had been out there and didn't come in when I called.he was ok. Cleaned their bowls, their extra water bowl in here and cleaned their water fountain. They sure like that thing, something about the bubbling water I suppose, but the filter and foam piece need replaced about every 2 weeks. It's says once a month but it would be really yucky by then.
After lunch running to town to pay the attorney, it was too late to do so yesterday.
I'm sleepy but shouldn't be. I need to get the vacuum out and vac under furniture, I can't stand cat hair in those places. Also take books downstairs, clean the bottom of the laundry room closet, and under the kitchen sink. Need to put DD's sheet on her bed and clean her sink and tub. And I'm sitting here. Was going to wash some windows, but doubt I do today now it's rained. I could do the front and back porch though, that would get 7 more cleaned and a door. Better delay those as I need to get the hose and sprayer so I can clean the screens too.
Need to fix DD some lunch, I'm not hungry.

To be continued for a damn long time I fear DH told me yesterday that the neighbor at our rental property sent him a nasty gram demanding he fix the fence b/c neighbor's dog got out of their backyard b/c our fence is in such poor condition. DH said that neighbor talked to him about fence last year and DH offered to help dig post holes and install the fence. Neighbor was not ready to go ahead, he said he could not afford it. DH would have split the cost, now he is just going to take the fence down completely. I had Gift Certificates to a local Sausage Company outlet store, well they closed the outlet store at the end of April. I had to call a few #'s, but just got a call back that I should send the GC's and they will send back store coupons. I am going to have quite a few coupons, so I will have to spread them around the family. I had them so long, b/c my family does not eat a lot of sausages. I guess we can plan for a 4th of July Cookout. DH is working on my Running Boards on my RAV4. Talk about $$ we spend b/c of our pets. I am mostly installing them b/c my Miniature Schnauzer hated jumping up into my car. He rides in the car every day, so I didn't want to have to lift him in and out of the car. I am missing an Anchor bolt. I know where it is, DH lost it up inside my car. So I called saying we were short one. Waiting to hear back from the car dealer. There are 6 bolts on each side, DH was just going to go with 5 on one side, but hopefully they will send us another one. I went to a Yoga Class at my Gym last night. I could go again tomorrow, but I did not get home until 8 pm, and DH was still in his office. He was supposed to get the dogs. It was 9:10 when he got home, and I still had to walk the dogs. Going 2 nights a week might just be too much for our schedule. Maybe I will do Saturday and one weeknight. I used to belong to another gym that had classes on Sunday Am, but they don't have the class anymore.

DH would have split the cost, now he is just going to take the fence down completely.I had Gift Certificates to a local Sausage Company outlet store, well they closed the outlet store at the end of April. Good for your DH

😖 Can you cut them open on the top?

Détente is a French word that means a relaxing or easing of tension between rivals, especially political ones. Why is chain link the hill to die on? I know I'd much rather have a 6' privacy fence over 4' chain link any day. Do either have dogs? A 4' fence is way easier for a dog to jump over. Plus, why have people see into your yard if you don't have to?

I believe he is a citizen now. He's at the very least a resident as that was his status when I met him. He's been to jail so many times for many different reasons, I'm not even sure what all for. I used to go on the MO site and just see if there were any more charges since the last time I checked, but I haven't cared enough to check for a long time. he's got to be a citizen, otherwise he would have his green card revoked for multiple criminal convictions. Yeah, I figured he was by now. Thanks.

Plus, why have people see into your yard if you don't have to? I have to say when my neighbors built a 6 foot wood fence between us on the West side (neighbor on the East side already had a 6 foot wood fence, my back yard instantly went from seeming spacious to being like a box. The house was to the north and the garage to the south and the yard wasn't big to begin with. It totally changed the feel of the yard and I really hated it. It was more private for sure, but it seemed so tiny and stuffy after.
eta: this was years ago when I lived in town.

Please be very careful if you have to go anywhere outside. You really don't need any respiratory problems on top of everything else you've been through lately AND Sushi needs you to keep opening those cans of cat food for him.
