Be careful moon/Laura! I remember going ice skating with DS when he had a school field trip, when I hadn't been on skates for over 20 years. I didn't fall, but my center of balance had changed a LOT over the years. This was the same experience I had lol. I really thought that after doing it multiple times a week for years that 'muscle memory' would have kicked in more, but NOPE. It was only slightly better than ever having been before. And that bummed me out cuz I really wanted to jam like I used to. Oh well. It'll come back to me if I keep going. My old skates don't fit me anymore though so I will be buying a new pair. Can't handle the rentals.

So tired. Scooter purchased and assembled. Still a Learning curve but I think it will be better than crutches at school. I had finally rescheduled her bday party from November when ds was sick and we didn't want to risk passing it on especially if it was covid. It's a pool party though so that's almost guaranteed canceled again. Plus she was finally getting her confidence back at the dojo. I hate the set back. I am so sorry for your daughter - I hope her recovery is swift and uneventful

I hadn't been on the ice in at least 10y, and once I had the good skates back, I started going pretty regularly to an 18+ public skating night. I managed to get back most of the jumps I could do before I quit the competition track, surprising myself in the process. that was about 20y ago now, I wonder what I could still do now. lol...

It really does make a difference having your own. You know how they're going to behave at all times. It's consistent. You can't do anything with confidence if you don't know what your equipment is going to do. I like my 'trucks' (the front axle, in a manner of speaking) to be kind of loose. When I put my weight to the inside ball of my foot, I want my wheels to move so that the inner wheel is angled more to the back and the outer wheel to the front. Rentals have no give to them.

oh, for sure. I'm used to being able to rely on my boots to have support enough that I can jump and land on it. I remember with the rentals, being able to lean in or out on both feet and have the boots break down enough to touch the ice. that's not safe for someone that's used to support.

At the time, I ended up buying myself a new pair of ice skates. The school was having ice skating as part of their PE program, and the kids had to go to the ice arena every week for 6-8 weeks. I was helping DS get his own balance using one of those things that looks like an old person's walker, so he'd stay on his feet, while trying not to fall myself. By the end of those weeks, I was doing pretty good on skates once again, but I haven't been on them since. I think I still have the skates, too.

Wide awake. The zoo wore me out so I fell asleep really early on the couch. Now I'm up. I've been trying to get back to sleep for the last half hour to no avail. I ended up in and out of sleep for the next couple of hours. Man, I'm getting old.

My back hurts. I'm dd primary physical support for getting up and down and I'm really wishing I had spent covid hulking out. I'm going to spend any downtime I have working my core and legs, but not so much to get sore since I have to be able to help her. I'm hoping it she gets a boot a lot of this will be easier. Right now her foot in the splint can't have any weight on it.
Orthopedist appt scheduled for tomorrow. I'm hoping it's better news. The ER doc said it was possibly fractured, but all the paperwork says it is fractured. I'm not sure it matters, but it makes me hope it's something that can heal faster.

TD isn’t back yet. I went back into town, to restock up on diclofenac as it is sold OTC here. I also picked up some more of these bandages for blisters. My blister has not broken, and the liquid in it has reabsorbed so while the skin is likely dead, it’s not an open wound and a portal for infection. I’ll keep that protected until I get home.
Other friends are back on the boat, and there was a discussion as to whether or not we need to call her son. My vote is ‘no’ until we know something further. If she passed out because of something minor, then it makes no sense to worry him. She had lunch in Munich yesterday and she ate something for lunch there she said didn’t taste right. Last night at dinner, she bailed for a bit as she had to hit the bathroom. Clueless as to whether she ate this morning as her excursion left early and she was on the bus and out of here about the time we were getting our coffee.
Viking has a contact in Salzburg, so he is going to be her conduit back to the ship. I have to admit how impressed I am as to how they are handling this.

Unfortunately, yes, it's perma-gone. A mod deleted it, according to the security log. There's no way to tell whether it was purposeful or accidental (like the intention was to delete a post or two, but accidentally did the whole thread instead). I'm waiting for a response to my PM.
PB has backups, but they won't do a restore unless the loss is due to a malfunction on their part. Oh well, what’s done is done. Sometimes starting over is a good thing, even when we miss and still want what used to be. We’ll just keep it moving. I agree, I am way behind on keeping up with this thread. I think I had to go back to Pg 3 to see what happened. And I think I was at about pg 7 so there is still a lot I have not read, personally I hardly have time to look back 14 pages, so oh well, it is gone. Maybe just like the Declutter thread, this one should start over on New Year's Day every year. My DD moved the last few things (I think) out of her apartment. She has been living with her boyfriend who already had a fully furnished apartment, so most of the stuff she had in her apartment came to my house. She came in with a few more bags of stuff last night and was looking for some parts to her Nintendo Switch. She said her BF wanted her to bring her X-Box, but she said he already has an X-Box...so she was going to take the switch over there. She said she bought it during the Pandemic and she didn't think he knew that she even had it. So She took her Mattress and her Nintendo switch (which fits in a box about the size of a shirt box) Everything else is all over my house. My Brother called a meeting with my DS and I yesterday and told us that he felt Mom should stop driving. He also had talked to Senior Planning and they recommended that we not only have Power of Attorney on the Checking Accounts, but that someone be co-owner. Mom only has about $8,000 in the accounts, and has two or three annuities and a pension + the social security. I refuse to fight with my siblings about this, so I just let it go. The estate planning my parents did designates my DS to have this duty. So, DS will talk to the Bank on Wed when she has a half day, Mom will be having Cataract Surgery. They had said she could drive home, but my DB had set up to drive her. Mom had told me I think [DB] doesn't trust me to drive. Which I told DB yesterday, he said "Good" think she at least knows there is an issue. He went over to talk to her yesterday and told her he did not thing she should drive anymore. She reluctantly agreed, but is pretty upset. So, I was thinking about it, and realized that Mother's day is Sunday. My Mom has usually hosted DS and I and our families for Mother's Day - My D Sis in law has always celebrated Mother's Day with just their family. In the past, we have had events at our house with both sides of the family...but, since my FIL is not walking very well anymore and my BIL who is an amputee is living with my MIL, we have just been having holidays at their house for DS's side for the last year. I realized last night that I need to clean my house and ask everyone to come to my house for Mother's Day. I said something to DS and he told me he did not want my BIL at our house b/c he was so disrespectful as to wear his MAGA hat for the family Easter Celebration and he has his American Flags dragging off the back of his truck too. Then he told me I could invite them but I had to tell the family No MAGA clothing. I am think I can just say no discussion of Politics or Clothing with Political Messages on it. Hopefully that will work. On Top of everything else, I realized DS's girlfriend has a Housewarming Party on Saturday Afternoon, and I RSVP'd for it. I am going to go to that no matter what. DS took the week off to take a Motorcycle Trip with friends. IDK if he will be back Saturday/Sunday or not. Going to take Friday off, and possibly a half day on Thursday to try to declutter and reorganize my house.

Hi everyone!!!! I'm not going to go into details, but there was a crisis in my family and needless to say I didn't handle it well. Thanks for the explanation. I know I've made occasional blunders when I get stressed, even when the stress isn't at the "family crisis" level. Be careful moon/Laura ! I remember going ice skating with DS when he had a school field trip, when I hadn't been on skates for over 20 years. I didn't fall, but my center of balance had changed a LOT over the years. My center of gravity hasn't changed but a few years ago I went ice skating with a church group after not having done so for decades. I did OK till I started trying to be Kristy Yamaguchi and started doing little circles- I fell, broke my fall with my left arm and twisted something in that arm badly. It took a full year to get it back to normal. I was on ACA at the time with a $6,000 deductible and it was S-L-O-W-L-Y getting better so I just kept exercising the muscles that didn't hurt to keep them strong. I may have to give up on ice skating.

An old friend of mine attempted roller skating with one of her kids, on the sidewalk, without wearing any protective padding, and ended up dislocating her shoulder. Concrete is very unforgiving.

I got really confused reading this because it seems you used DS to mean both DSister and DSon. But I wanted to comment on telling your family that there should be no discussion of politics or clothing with political messages on it. I bet your BIL would think a MAGA hat doesn't count, because don't you want to make America great again? So if you are going to say something about no discussion about politics or clothing with political messages, add what your DS wants, "including no MAGA clothing." And then expect your BIL to figure out how to stretch that somehow, in protest. Is he the type to confront you verbally about your restriction?

My dad took up ice skating in his 60's after retiring. It's been a couple years now (damn covid!) But he really enjoyed it.
I really struggle with balance. The hike down has always been harder than hiking up for me. So ice skating and rollerblading have never been my first choice activities. When I was looking for a family physical activity to do together dh was really gunning for ice skating - and that definitely made sense. He and the kids were already skating a couple times a week. I just had to move from the stands to the ice. I did take a lesson at the time to try to make a go of it, but I pushed them into martial arts instead. Maybe we can revisit and I'll try harder. Hopefully my falling technique is better from the martial arts so maybe I wouldn't be so terrified on skates.

I am top heavy and have very weak ankles - no skating for me. I only ever tried ice skating once in my teens. Looked like baby deer learning to walk, and that was holding onto the side for dear life. I do ok on the old school type of roller skates. After seeing what I could(n't) do on ice skates does not make me want to try it.

I like to hike with my camera when the weather is nice, but I've noticed I'm not as sure footed as I'd like anymore. I'm hoping that skating will improve that.
I don't do ice skating or inline - only quad rollers.

Sorry, yes the first DS is my Sister, and the last on is my Son. You are probably right, my DBIL is a real redneck. We truly feel that he is a closet racist, but that has not stopped him from borrowing $$ from DH and never paying it back. He has come to quite few family gatherings with his MAGA gear on display. DH is Mexican, so is my Niece's DH and another niece is married to a very nice man from Africa (he is a naturalized US Citizen). I don't think DBIL would confront us, maybe. No matter what he wears, he sill still be a Rednecked idjit.

I just got through giving the AP Government test. It was a tad over 4 hours for $100 . . . sounded good. The first test was 120 minutes long. All I could do is stare at them, occasionally moving from one side of the room to the other. The second test was 140 minutes long but more exciting since every 20 minutes I could say: "It is advised that you move on to question X if you have not yet done so" until the last 40 minutes. But even that got a final 10 minute warning. I think watching paint dry is a lot more fulfilling, but I do have a use for the money. And I would have to work over 8 hours to earn that as a substitute. I am giving 5 of these.

About to bring car + bumper to auto body shop for an estimate of costs and time. Then pick up a few groceries before I come back to make dinner. I did upload an application and some documents for a lender and finished an editing gig this morning, plus walked Franklin the Dog.
Hope the car thing turns out to be not as expensive as I fear.

I love fresh oranges, but I really hate that my hands will now smell like an orange for the rest of the day. I just had a juicy cara cara one for lunch. yum!

I never notice that my hands smell like oranges for long and I eat a lot of them - but maybe I just don't notice because I like the smell? Not sure if it will help but after I cut jalapeños I cant wash the smell/sting off my hands so I run my fingers through my hair on my scalp and that gets rid of it every time.

thanks, I'll give that a shot next time. I'm actually okay now today, b/c I just used the time remaining in a call that ended super early to finish the pedicure I got last Thursday. my heels needed some more love, so my hands now smell like the apricot scrub and tea tree oil I used.

I love fresh grapes, but have to eat them with a fork. I can smell the sulphur fertilizer they use in the vinyards, and CANNOT get the smell off my hands, even with lemon juice. I have hyperosmia. (I can tell if jewellery is real silver or gold just by smelling it.)

For smells on hands I bought THIS in 2017. It has taken every scent off my hands and is still going strong.

your link brings me back to your post, daisy. Me too. And I was curious since onions and garlic stick with me (what seems like) forever. And the only thing that smell is good for is keeping Dracula at bay
