It's 6:15 and I'm having breakfast. Baby potatoes with butter and parsley, and a chicken leg. My meds give me anorexia. that sounds delish, glad you're eating now. it's approaching bedtime for me, but I know you're a night owl. our hours don't line up well at all lol... here's hoping the meds do their job, so you can get back to routine soon.

Hilton's website says flexible housekeeping in the Americas with daily available by request. I usually take a few plastic bags but they are usually for dirty clothes or wet ones. I haven't personally been in a Hilton this year though. Most places I have been asked at check in what level of service I wanted. I expect by request might be the standard going forward in a lot of places. Hotels haven't wanted to pay enough to attract staff to this difficult job and I'm sure there's a percentage of guests who didn't want daily service prior to covid. Yes, I'm betting it will be the lowest level available as we are part of a group. I wouldn't be concerned but lack of trash removal is a problem for those whose trash may contain undergarments designed for period/incontinence needs. On our Arizona trip, many guests also had dogs using pee pads which the guests put in plastic bags in the hallway so things were pretty nasty at the end of the week. Well, when we travel as a group with our travel club, they treat us like royalty, including our Alaska cruise with Holland America. Maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised?

We've only stayed at Hampton Inns, Hilton Garden Inn and Doubletree by Hilton since covid. They all had housekeeping by request. In April, Hampton Inn had by request and also cleaned and changed bedding every 5 days. They all provided toiletries and you could request extra at the desk.

Well they finally got around to calling me and a union steward to the principal’s office to discuss my attendance. After we were done, I told the lady I had to speak with that I appreciated her not being an asshole like some of the other managers are. She was just matter of fact, asked me the questions she had to ask me, with no smart ass or snide remarks. She’s not in charge of what kind of disciplinary action employees get, her job is just to “interview” us and send everything to another department. She said that since I’ve never had any kind of disciplinary action, at most, they will probably give me a Letter of Warning. Which means they are at least kinda following the rules. Technically, my immediate supervisor is supposed to take me in the office and give me a “discussion” about my attendance first. I don’t currently have a supervisor, but my manager did mention my attendance issues to me last month, but not formally, the way it’s supposed to go. He said he did though, so whatever. If the union wants to fight it, that’s up to them. As long as they don’t go past a letter of warning I won’t press the issue myself about whether or not I had an official discussion. She expressed the same concern that I have though, that my issues have still not been resolved. I didn’t tell her anything about what’s wrong with me, I just spoke about seeing specialists to try to address the reasons my attendance has been so bad. I told her that every time I’ve been to a medical professional since this started, I asked for a statement that I was seen in their office that day, even though they didn’t take me off work. She told me to bring her those, since they don’t have any medical information on them, and she will attach them to my file when she sends it on. It may or may not help, but it’s worth a try. I agree. One of the questions she had to ask me was if I would like for her to give me the phone number to EAP. I said I’ve already been in contact and have another appointment next week. She asked the union steward if she could include that info in my file to try to help. He said yes, if it was ok with me, and as long as there was no medical information included, which it’s not, because I only said I’ve been using the benefit, and didn’t say why. So anyway, I’m not upset. I know my attendance has been horrible, so I can’t be mad that they called me out on it. I would’ve gotten upset though if the person doing the interview would’ve been an asshole though. I consider myself blessed if all I get is a letter of warning, I probably would’ve been fired a long time ago if I worked somewhere else. And maybe it helps that in over 25 years working there, my attendance has never been an issue. Now I’m praying that this fodmap helps me figure things out. Yesterday I baked chicken breasts and cooked spinach and asked Mister to cook some rice. He’s serious about his rice and is very particular about how he likes it cooked, so I never even try to cook it. I only ate a spoonful of spinach, and a little chicken and rice, and my stomach was ok last night and this morning. Good they are being reasonable and not adding to your stress Seems you new doctor has a plan for you. So you won’t have this misery that you’ve suffered too long Yes, I am very grateful that the meeting today was not too stressful. I am still kind of stressed though about how long it might take to weed things out if it’s food causing my issues. If I get a letter of warning and still keep missing work, the next step is a 7 day suspension. I don’t want it to go that far. I actually didn’t want it to go as far as it already has. Because I don’t discuss my personal life with my coworkers, they think whatever they think, and I’m sure they and some of the bosses thing I’m just being trifling and not coming to work. When the truth is that I don’t like missing work. I also don’t like missing all the money I’ve been missing by not being able to go to work. Anyway, thank you!

I guess I'm cheaper than I am lazy. I was trying to order pizza delivery because I'm in the middle of baking 12 dozen cookies. I got everything in the cart and it's a $5 delivery fee plus I'd tip the driver $5. Not paying an extra $10 on top of the food costs. DH is still at his retirement lunch that ran into happy hour and I'm not waiting 90 minutes to eat. I'm equal parts of both. Sometimes the cheapness wins and sometimes the laziness does.

Dental appointment this afternoon, first in I don’t want to say how long. Just hoping I don’t need any crowns or root canals One root canal and crown. Plus some fillings and deep cleanings because my teeth are too close together. My own damn fault. Dental care always boils down to pay now, or pay later. I had to have valium for my last root canal. I highly recommend it.

I was cranking through cookies to get to a stopping place and DH left. So he gets to buy the pizza. I didn't want to wait so long but oh well. I'm not leaving the house now.

Mister has been asking me for a couple of days about my coworker that gave us Boy. He said he wanted to tell her how much he appreciates her giving us Boy. He brought it up again just now and I said do you want me to call her so you can tell her. He said yes. I told her Mister wanted to tell her something and she was like “Oh Lord, I hope he hasn’t got sick of Boy”. I said Imma let him tell you and gave him the phone. He told her how much he really, really appreciated her giving us his little guy because he’s so awesome and told her that was all he wanted to say and he was giving the phone back. When I went back outside, I told her that I really believe Boy has been a HUGE comfort for Mister during the time his Mom was so sick and since she died. She told me “y’all gon make me cry” and that she was happy that she had a part in something that gives us so much joy. And she talked about her own dogs and how awesome the unconditional love is. She said it meant a lot to her that Mister wanted to tell her how much he appreciated her giving us Boy and how happy he is with him. That was my feel good moment for today.

I think Sunday will be a funday for me. I'll go to Bath & Body Works for some travel stuff, and around the corner to Target to buy stuff I'm seeing fools on social media say should be banned. A rainbow or 5 might be involved. I haven't been to Target in maybe 3 years just because I don't need stuff, but I'm feeling the urge to shop me some stuff there

Mister is banging on his drums. Baby Sister, her DH and Mister’s Dad are less than an hour away. Have you checked to see if he wrote any names on his drumheads, like "my brother" ? LOL! No, and I hope he didn’t because it cost a pretty penny for him to replace all the missing pieces to his drumset when he finally brought it home. It had been left in care of his Dad and Brother, supposedly in storage in Dad’s attic, but somehow pieces were missing when he went to get it. And his particular set, the drums and skins (wraps?) aren’t sold anymore, and he’d pinched pennies for a long time to be able to buy those drums, which made Mister even more upset about pieces being missing. So I know just enough about the cost of a decent or better drumset, to not want him to abuse his lol. We can put paper targets in the garage and throw darts at it or something. That will cost less than tearing up his drums.

Pink, pocket doors can be different ways. Some have gliders at the top that they ride on. Some have a couple little guides on the floor inside the pocket and they rid in those. If they have become worn and slip out that could be a problem. Or they could become bent. Some just glide on the floor. If you can't get it open, maybe try a small crowbar and raise it from the bottom a bit, that might loosen it enough to get it open. Don't force it, just wiggle it around and maybe it will move. Has Boy been jumping against it? If so he could have moved it.
I got the lawn all mowed and trimmed, looks like velvet. Hubs put new blades on the mower this year. But it is so dry if it doesn't rain soon its not going to be so pretty. I wrapped my hair in a scarf, but I think it got some dust as it's not as shiny. But I need to mow the other lawn tomorrow and no point in washing it. I brushed it good and nothing came out, but still just the idea it has dust in it bothers me. I also mowed the ditch all down the road. Then I trimmed the rose bushes in the fence line, now they look pretty. Going to see if I can put buckets of water on the mower and take out there and water them. Also got most of a limb out of the yard. I have a little chain saw that will cut up to 5 inch limbs. It left a piece hanging, I'm not sure I can pull it loose. It is broken and I might try a rope tied to the mower and see if I can pull it down. That piece is bigger, if I can't hubs will have to. Then I mowed where it had been. My eyes got full of dust even though I had on curved sunglasses. I should have worn my goggles as that tears up my eyes. So I washed them good, and used lash cleaner on them so that helped some. Will have to use some eye wash. I worked out till almost 7.
I want to sew tonight but I'm tired. Washed the quilt and it almost got dry. The humidity is 37% so that helped. I put it in the dryer to finish.
Ready to fix dinner. I'm having catfish and corn on the cob, DD can have tuna salad or the drumsticks I cooked last night with her corn. We are trying to stick with eating out less. Yesterday was a VERY expensive day with hair appt and her shopping. I actually went into Pennys yesterday and would did not buy anything. The prices were too high. I suppose some of the stuff was ok, but no. Same with TJ Maxx the other day, I don't like what I see so will just continue to sew. I will buy clothes for DD, can find some cute stuff for her in size Small now and at places like that not to expensive. If she wants me to make her some I will but I doubt she will.
So dinner time.

Mister was just messing with the pocket door trying to figure out what is wrong with it. I thought it was getting stuck on the bottom because the top would move a little, but the bottom wouldn’t move at all. But he said it’s the top that’s getting stuck. But since it slides into a wall…… as far as I can tell, that makes it more difficult to figure out what’s wrong because you can’t see inside the wall. Even if it’s just off track, how do you fix it when you can’t see tracks inside the wall? Idk for sure if Boy has been jumping on it, but if I had to guess, probably not. When we put him in the laundry room, he is much more concerned with the door we go out of, into the garage. And he lays in front of that door until someone comes back home. Which is still sad to me, but I don’t trust him and Newbie being alone together for hours, because he constantly pesters her, and every once in a while, Newbie makes it clear that she is not in the mood. Her pupils get dilated and she has a different type of growl and bark. So far, he’s respected that when it’s happened and run away from her and left her alone, but there’s no guarantee he will always respect it, and I don’t want them to fight for real. He has a large crate, but the laundry room is much bigger than his crate, so that’s why we put him there, instead of in his crate. He is also still very destructive. He is still chewing on that one wall in the living room. So even if we didn’t have Newbie, I wouldn’t trust him to have free run of the house. Newbie has free run of the house, Mister leaves the tv in the den on, because he swears she watches tv. I seriously doubt that she moves from her spot on their sofa in the den the whole time we are at work. Which means she doesn’t get into any mischief. Unlike Boy, who we should’ve named Loki.

Tomorrow is a fun mix of gotta and gonna. I gotta fix breakfast, clean toilets, and register the car. And I'm gonna go to the lunch at a seriously real BBQ place in a gritty neighborhood and a 90-minute tour of the Houston ship channel and port. Life is good, if a little weird.
A couple of interesting phone calls today and I hope I helped lower the temp on some stuff. Living 10' from house wall to house wall requires a whole lot of thinking and choosing before doing. So far, nothing has boiled over to gunfire or the law called. This weekend will be challenging-lots of booze, drugs and fireworks along with record high heat.

What is a person to do when a huge 8lb of good looking onions is cheaper than an iffy looking 3lb bag in the grocery store? Well, while I know that I won't be able to use up that many onions by myself I bought the big bag. And now I am looking how to use even more onions than I already do. Today that means I will have onion soup for dinner. Yum (I hope) as this is an untested recipe!!!

Good lord! The guy at the gym asked me out again. He tried talking to my friend about me who told him that it's a long shot. I've been shrugging off his advantages trying to be nice. I'm about to get serious and tell him to stop because I'm not attracted to him. I'm too nice to a fault sometimes.

Overall, that sounds like a positive meeting, with the company rep not being asshole and the union rep seeming to try to keep things on track and protect you. Like I said a month or so ago when I was made aware that it was coming, I was glad that this particular lady was the one handling it. We got to know each other when worked on an ergonomics team together years ago, way before she went into management. So I had no issue with her (or anybody) just doing their job when they talked with me about my attendance, I was just relieved to be dealing with someone that wasn’t going to be an asshole and upset my nerves. Idk if I would’ve started crying or cussing, but either way wouldn’t have been good. And it probably sounds crazy to people that work in civilized places, that that was even a concern, but we absolutely do have managers that don’t know how to talk to people without being a smart ass or just ugly. I had the nerve to give a supervisor a form today, taking tomorrow and Saturday off work. I was supposed to be on vacation this week and next week, but I didn’t have enough leave for the whole 2 weeks, so I just asked for those 2 days. I’m off Sunday anyway because it’s my holiday and falls within my vacation. So when I gave it to him, he said “you’ve BEEN on vacation!” And that’s the kind of smart remarks I don’t want to deal with. Because I haven’t been on vacation, I’ve been fucking sick, and when I’ve not been at work, I’ve been in my house afraid to go anywhere because of the pain and because I’m afraid to be more than a few feet from a bathroom. I have the leave to take the 2 days, and it’s within the time I signed up for on the vacation list, which means you can’t disapprove it, so just sign the damn thing and STFU. I’m not explaining anything, because it won’t matter and I don’t want my business all over the building. I know a bit about how you feel because some managers and coworkers say stupid stuff like that and believe it. Being sick is not a vacation. And if its really bad, its much harder than an average to crappy day at work.

I just started my "don't forget" packing list and added small trash bags as I remember there was no housekeeping on our Arizona trip last year and we had to scrounge for trash bags to haul to the dumpster behind the hotel. Does anyone know if a big cruise line like NCL has housekeeping or are we DIY on that too? I have to go get some travel size shower gels and shampoos too because nobody provides those anymore - next it will be bring your own towels. We travel so rarely I would appreciate everyone's hints on what to pack. My bag is open on the spare bed getting ready for Alaska too. We are also trying NCL for the first time. I like to take post it notes to communicate with the room attendants. I also take a colorful magnet to put on our door. Much easier to find your way home after the beverage package. I take a wrist watch and wear it on port days set to ship's time. I don't trust my phone to jump time zones and not jump back! Other stuff I'm taking (that hasn't been mentioned by others) includes: Insulated coffee cup, water bottle for the cabin, sunblock, battery operated tea lite for a bathroom nightlight, eye mask, hat that fits tight (wind), and a folder or binder clips to keep your paperwork together. Can't wait. Our last cruise was in 2019 to Panama. I am really looking forward to this vacation. God, yes! My watch was the only time I could depend upon on this cruise. It always took my phone and iPad a day or 2 to catch up. It got interesting when I had to set my phone alarm for an excursion. We are supposed to be an hour behind, but my phone is still on old time, so what do I set the alarm at? That is, assuming my phone finally catches up.

Well, while I know that I won't be able to use up that many onions by myself I bought the big bag. And now I am looking how to use even more onions than I already do. Today that means I will have onion soup for dinner. Yum (I hope) as this is an untested recipe!!! Caramelize them and store in the freezer for a batch of French Onion soup. Or plan on making French onion soup. Make sure you get the good, imported Gruyère!

My body seized up early this morning and I guess I either had just a little too much sodium, or the culmative walking combined with the Zpak are doing a number on me. I think I also forgot to order some non dairy yogurt to eat for a few days.I have some old probiotics I keep in the fridge, but I keep forgetting to take them an hour or so before or after a meal. Will try harder on that tonight after work.
I dread walking to the bus stop this morning. Wish I had someone to count on who could just drive me in and I'd take the bus back. I feel like I should lie down and just hydrate and not move much today. But given I've been give the blessing of not having to work this Saturday, I need to be there.I should be able to handle the half day, but getting there?
I did go to choir practice and it went pretty well. There are all these memorial day activities in town from apparently last night through Memorial day itself. My fellow choir member managed to get us there and in the parking lot. That is a big deal because it is a steep climb up and steep stairs if you can't park in the lot and enter from the back. Better make my oatmeal and get ready for work.

Wishing that I had taken the day off to extend the weekend. Oh well, logging out early (after lunch) is an option.

Put slow cooker liner in slow cooker and add sliced, chunked, chopped (your choice) onions on low and caramelize them! I don’t add anything except maybe a spoon full of water. I check on them after several hours just to stir and check color. I vacuum seal and freeze. I use lots of caramelized onions.

On a bus with a bunch of 6th graders to chaperone a field trip with DD1. I could have driven myself but DD1 wanted me to ride the bus with her. 🙂
