Well, I finally pulled out the knitting I brought on the WC. In my defense, I tried working on it while I was isolated with Covid. I only brought circular needles. First time I have ever worked with them, and I HATE them. So when I passed a yarn shop in the Orkneys, I picked up a pair of straight needles. Things are now transferred over. Much better.
We have a few sea days on our way to the next stop. Some rocking and rolling now, but not too bad…..so far. Last night, it was about 2 am before things started flying.

I avoid using straight needles as much as I can. I even am doing the sleeves on my baby sweater on 9 inch circular needles (size 8. I have a friend that will only knit on dpns.

Ugh! DD is sick, and we're not sure what it is. She did go visit Urgent Care, and the only thing they've ruled out so far is Covid. Waiting for test results to come back on other things, like influenza. She probably picked up something at the concert she attended this weekend. Being a mom, I dropped of Sprite and some frozen chicken & wild rice soup. Hoping it's nothing bad. Worrying, it's what moms do... This was totally me when DS had Covid. I left Groceries on his porch. Giramomma- I was thinking you could not convince me to wear false eye lashes/deal with mascara, but now that you said you lost your eyelashes due to Chemo, I get it. Hopefully it will continue to work well for you. Is there any hope your lashes will grow back? Weltschmerz- glad to hear the Good News on DS's tests. We sold DD's old car yesterday. DH told me he was going to Deposit the check today, but he left it on the Coffee Table at home, so I ran home on my lunch hour and got it. We did ok, but DH did some last minute repairs after the people agreed to buy it. DH said he is still satisfied with how much we got for it. I would be happier if he had not spent the extra $$ on it. Glad it is no longer in the driveway. I more to get rid of.

I just started my "don't forget" packing list and added small trash bags as I remember there was no housekeeping on our Arizona trip last year and we had to scrounge for trash bags to haul to the dumpster behind the hotel. Does anyone know if a big cruise line like NCL has housekeeping or are we DIY on that too?
I have to go get some travel size shower gels and shampoos too because nobody provides those anymore - next it will be bring your own towels.
We travel so rarely I would appreciate everyone's hints on what to pack.

NCL does have housekeeping, although it's not as robust as pre-COVID. if you aren't allergic to everything like I am, you won't need those travel-sized toiletries. NCL has those in the shower in every cabin, and the gym. I don't think you'd need small trash bags, as the bins get emptied on their daily rounds. if you've got any NCL-specific questions, definitely let me know. the only thing that's coming to mind right now is *don't* pack a power strip or surge protector, because that will get your bag yanked for an additional search. which ship are you sailing? many have been renovated in recent years and have USB power outlets around the cabin for electronics. there's still a 110V outlet in the bathroom for shavers, and I remember using a UK adapter on a regular plug in the last couple of years (the ship I typically sail was among the first to be renovated).

Some people bring lanyards for their cruise card. I brought a collapsible laundry hamper and lingerie bag (helps corral socks). We also packed a spare duffel. Don’t forget OTC meds like ibuprofen, or cold meds. I bring my own toiletries, only because I have stupid skin but Viking provides toiletries. I suspect that you’ll have housekeeping, I don5 think you’ll need trash bags. .

Hubs is being a nice guy. Son is going to Wisconsin with a bunch of his motorcycle and army buddies. So, hubs told DIL if she wants to go somewhere too he will babysit. So, she is going with some girlfriends this weekend and he is babysitting for little guy for 3 days. He is nice about things like that plus it will be a "guy" weekend for he and grandson. I knew he would enjoy being with him as much as I do. Good for both of them.
He said he is going to take him to the big air museum in Seattle he thinks, and I'm sure he will find some other things to do. They will likely go out for pizza and Subway. Little guy will have a good time I'm sure.
He said he got the faucet in DD's shower up there all fixed finally, and next week will be ready to start washing down the mobile He took the awnings off the windows to paint too.
Tomorrow afternoon, I plan to mow the yard at the other house and mobile so that will be done. I'm getting ready now to go out and finish mowing our lawn. I tied my hair up in a scarf to keep the dust off it, hopefully.
DD and I will likely go to a movie Saturday and out to eat, she will enjoy that. And we may find something else to do, but we don't mind staying home either. I have to trim those rose bushes at some point. And Tuesday either need to have the Sheriff move the gal, then change the door knobs and locks and have the lights turned off for now. I need to look over the house and see what kind of issues there. And the yard needs mowed and cleaned up there also. I have quite a bit to keep me busy. I hope to be able to sew more too.
Took DD for checkup, blood work is ordered and doc wrote her a script for Flagyl in case she has a flare. Otherwis,e she will go to an ER. Got approval for a vacation leave from medicaid so she is covered and doesn't lose her programs. Also, will have to do a video conference so they can see her while we are gone. Wanted to make sure all that was approved, don't want to get on the wrong side of the authorities.
I also washed one of the feather quilts and hung it on the line. Will finish drying it in the dryer and pack it away in a sealed bag, then wash the other one tomorrow. So those will be nice and clean. That should save me a bundle of money on drycleaning. They only need it a couple times a year, but sometimes wash them more often.
I am also washing my sheets and washing a new set to put on my bed. DD's will need done too. Would like to hang them out tomorrow.
So today was productive.
So out to mow! Later all, have to peel a kitty off my leg and feet first, LOL! Have to love them

I'm packing sinus meds for sure because I think it's bloom time in Alaska

Hilton's website says flexible housekeeping in the Americas with daily available by request. I usually take a few plastic bags but they are usually for dirty clothes or wet ones.
I haven't personally been in a Hilton this year though. Most places I have been asked at check in what level of service I wanted.
I expect by request might be the standard going forward in a lot of places. Hotels haven't wanted to pay enough to attract staff to this difficult job and I'm sure there's a percentage of guests who didn't want daily service prior to covid.

We're not bringing any toiletries because I don't want to deal with them for the plane (well, I'm not...DS might be) and we're just taking carry-ons and not checking anything. RCL says they provide them so fingers crossed and I checked cruise critic from recent travelers and they say the same.

Yes, I'm betting it will be the lowest level available as we are part of a group. I wouldn't be concerned but lack of trash removal is a problem for those whose trash may contain undergarments designed for period/incontinence needs. On our Arizona trip, many guests also had dogs using pee pads which the guests put in plastic bags in the hallway so things were pretty nasty at the end of the week.

I like to take post it notes to communicate with the room attendants. I also take a colorful magnet to put on our door. Much easier to find your way home after the beverage package. I take a wrist watch and wear it on port days set to ship's time. I don't trust my phone to jump time zones and not jump back! Other stuff I'm taking (that hasn't been mentioned by others) includes: Insulated coffee cup, water bottle for the cabin, sunblock, battery operated tea lite for a bathroom nightlight, eye mask, hat that fits tight (wind), and a folder or binder clips to keep your paperwork together. Can't wait. Our last cruise was in 2019 to Panama. I am really looking forward to this vacation.

Hilton will service your room by request, but daily service isn't a thing. most hotels will leave an extra trash bag under the one in use, draped over the edge of the bin. I'm sure you could call the front desk and ask for a couple more if you needed them. I've also found that leaving things outside your door will get them removed in the am, be it take-out containers, a full trash bag, or whatever. I just looked up Spirit, it's definitely been renovated. I noticed it was originally another cruise line, which explains why the deck plans are so foreign to me. lol.... but I found all of the names eventually I sail the Pearl mostly, but we've sailed the Gem or Jade when the Pearl was having major maintenance done. for the most part, the Gem class is laid out almost exactly the same. that helps when you're shitfaced at 3am after listening to live music all day.

Well they finally got around to calling me and a union steward to the principal’s office to discuss my attendance. After we were done, I told the lady I had to speak with that I appreciated her not being an asshole like some of the other managers are. She was just matter of fact, asked me the questions she had to ask me, with no smart ass or snide remarks.
She’s not in charge of what kind of disciplinary action employees get, her job is just to “interview” us and send everything to another department. She said that since I’ve never had any kind of disciplinary action, at most, they will probably give me a Letter of Warning. Which means they are at least kinda following the rules. Technically, my immediate supervisor is supposed to take me in the office and give me a “discussion” about my attendance first. I don’t currently have a supervisor, but my manager did mention my attendance issues to me last month, but not formally, the way it’s supposed to go. He said he did though, so whatever. If the union wants to fight it, that’s up to them. As long as they don’t go past a letter of warning I won’t press the issue myself about whether or not I had an official discussion.
She expressed the same concern that I have though, that my issues have still not been resolved. I didn’t tell her anything about what’s wrong with me, I just spoke about seeing specialists to try to address the reasons my attendance has been so bad. I told her that every time I’ve been to a medical professional since this started, I asked for a statement that I was seen in their office that day, even though they didn’t take me off work. She told me to bring her those, since they don’t have any medical information on them, and she will attach them to my file when she sends it on. It may or may not help, but it’s worth a try. I agree.
One of the questions she had to ask me was if I would like for her to give me the phone number to EAP. I said I’ve already been in contact and have another appointment next week. She asked the union steward if she could include that info in my file to try to help. He said yes, if it was ok with me, and as long as there was no medical information included, which it’s not, because I only said I’ve been using the benefit, and didn’t say why.
So anyway, I’m not upset. I know my attendance has been horrible, so I can’t be mad that they called me out on it. I would’ve gotten upset though if the person doing the interview would’ve been an asshole though. I consider myself blessed if all I get is a letter of warning, I probably would’ve been fired a long time ago if I worked somewhere else. And maybe it helps that in over 25 years working there, my attendance has never been an issue.
Now I’m praying that this fodmap helps me figure things out. Yesterday I baked chicken breasts and cooked spinach and asked Mister to cook some rice. He’s serious about his rice and is very particular about how he likes it cooked, so I never even try to cook it. I only ate a spoonful of spinach, and a little chicken and rice, and my stomach was ok last night and this morning.

ooh - one important thing. we all know I've bitched about it enough over the years - if you have any food allergies or sensitivities at all, pack snacks. if you are someone who doesn't ordinarily eat a lot of salt, buy a water package and eat ALL of the watermelon to avoid cankles. NCL's food is not good, and that's above and beyond all of the times I've had allergic reactions for things that shouldn't have ever been a worry. for example - my anaphylactic reaction (to shellfish) after a few bites of my Caprese salad in the pay-extra Italian restaurant.

We are going to have to figure out something else to do with Boy while we are at work if Mister can’t figure out what’s wrong with the pocket door between the kitchen in the laundry room.
This morning when I was leaving for work, I’d already put Boy in the laundry room and closed the door when I realized I’d forgot my earbuds. I tried and tried, but could not open the pocket door, it was stuck somehow on the bottom and wouldn’t slide open. I finally just gave up and went to work, luckily I had everything else with me and had set it down in the laundry room when I tried to go back. If I hadn’t at least had my keys, I would’ve been trapped in the laundry room for real. Coming through the garage into the laundry room is the only way to get in the house without a key.
I’d forgot about it when I got back home. I still couldn’t open the door. I went back outside and around the house, and came in through the front door. I finally got it to open from the kitchen side after tussling with it for some minutes. The one between the kitchen and the den has been sticking at the bottom too, but not so bad that you can’t open it.
I’ve never had pocket doors, so I have no idea what the issue is. If Mister had got home first, he would’ve been assed out. He has keys to the back door. Which opens into the laundry room, so he still would’ve been stuck. our new sliding door has keys for the outside and it opens into the den, but neither of us put one of the keys on our key rings.

Yes, getting adequate hydration and fiber is the biggest challenge during our travels. I'm an expensive date, and that's before the alcohol. Thanks for the reminder

Overall, that sounds like a positive meeting, with the company rep not being asshole and the union rep seeming to try to keep things on track and protect you. Like I said a month or so ago when I was made aware that it was coming, I was glad that this particular lady was the one handling it. We got to know each other when worked on an ergonomics team together years ago, way before she went into management. So I had no issue with her (or anybody) just doing their job when they talked with me about my attendance, I was just relieved to be dealing with someone that wasn’t going to be an asshole and upset my nerves. Idk if I would’ve started crying or cussing, but either way wouldn’t have been good. And it probably sounds crazy to people that work in civilized places, that that was even a concern, but we absolutely do have managers that don’t know how to talk to people without being a smart ass or just ugly. I had the nerve to give a supervisor a form today, taking tomorrow and Saturday off work. I was supposed to be on vacation this week and next week, but I didn’t have enough leave for the whole 2 weeks, so I just asked for those 2 days. I’m off Sunday anyway because it’s my holiday and falls within my vacation. So when I gave it to him, he said “you’ve BEEN on vacation!” And that’s the kind of smart remarks I don’t want to deal with. Because I haven’t been on vacation, I’ve been fucking sick, and when I’ve not been at work, I’ve been in my house afraid to go anywhere because of the pain and because I’m afraid to be more than a few feet from a bathroom. I have the leave to take the 2 days, and it’s within the time I signed up for on the vacation list, which means you can’t disapprove it, so just sign the damn thing and STFU. I’m not explaining anything, because it won’t matter and I don’t want my business all over the building.

I guess I'm cheaper than I am lazy. I was trying to order pizza delivery because I'm in the middle of baking 12 dozen cookies. I got everything in the cart and it's a $5 delivery fee plus I'd tip the driver $5. Not paying an extra $10 on top of the food costs.
DH is still at his retirement lunch that ran into happy hour and I'm not waiting 90 minutes to eat.

Dental appointment this afternoon, first in I don’t want to say how long. Just hoping I don’t need any crowns or root canals One root canal and crown. Plus some fillings and deep cleanings because my teeth are too close together. My own damn fault.

It's 6:15 and I'm having breakfast. Baby potatoes with butter and parsley, and a chicken leg. My meds give me anorexia.

I just did a bad and bailed on tonight's community meeting (yes, I'm an elected director) but this is the first meeting I've missed in many years, even when I was not a director. We have sixteen elected directors and it's rare for 10 to show up. I feel awful for the good people I bailed on but I'm just tired. Not physically, just mentally tired, tired of the boos, the hate, the nasty stuff. Next month's meeting includes an important election and I will crawl there, even though we get back late the night before. Tonight, I just can't and that sucks.

Good they are being reasonable and not adding to your stress Seems you new doctor has a plan for you. So you won’t have this misery that you’ve suffered too long

I am seeing a new tablet in my near future. The one I have works perfectly fine but the battery is cr*pping out pretty fast. Fortunately the Fire tablet isn't terribly expensive but I hate the electronic waste replacing it creates.
