So I was reading about how a teacher in Florida is under investigation because a parent complained that she showed Disney's Strange World to the students. Strange World has an openly gay character. Meanwhile when I was in daycare they showed us The Dark Crystal. That movie still takes up free space in my brain. Scared the ever loving crap out of me. Then I remember being shown The Peanut Butter Solution in school during a free day. Talk about an acid trip of a movie. It's also been living rent free in my head but anytime I'd talk about it try to Google it it was like it didn't exist. Facebook finally confirmed I wasn't insane about this at least. Another movie popped up today which was the one with all the popular cartoon characters of that era teaching a kid to Just Say No to Drugs in partnership with DARE. Also an acid trip of a movie that I was starting to convince myself I made up. The 80s/90s were wild in terms of kids' movies. This woman must have been extremely sheltered as a kid that she draws the line at Strange World. I think I repressed the peanut butter solution. I don't really remember it except that it was weird and scary for an overly sensitive kid like I was. I wouldn't watch the dark crystal TV show because I just remember being scared of the movie. The last unicorn too.

Daisylu- Sorry for your loss, and hope you survive all the travelling. Pink - I am sorry Mister's Brother is being a selfish jerk. You really have to stand up to people like that. Mister is going to have to tell him to shape up or get out. I would say absolutely kick him out, but since his father is also a train wreck, idk what to say. Giramomma, would you seriously homeschool all your kids or just the Peanut? Is this something your DH would handle, or is this going to be one more thing on your plate? Is a Private School an option? JerseyGirl- So glad your cancer markers are down. Hopefully your remaining treatments will knock it out completely. Andi - Sorry about your instructor. I have always feared my DS would do something like that. Sending Virtual Hugs to all of you.

The last unicorn too. It popped into my head randomly at 2 am and I was like "WTF was that movie about the kid's hair to make magic paint brushes?". It's one of those movies I think all of us in the same age group saw and was just memorable enough to permanently traumatize us but not memorable enough to recall the title.

This woman must have been extremely sheltered as a kid that she draws the line at Strange World. Or she's just doing it because she can. Or maybe she was feeling pressure to? Maybe the mom feels like she has to prove something by behaving like that. I will admit, when we watched the first part, I did a double take, and then I was like ...cool...moving on. Yesterday, the kids' school had a meeting. Part of it was a discussion to the changes in curriculum. One parent repeatedly asked questions about testing and placement. It wasn't a need. Administrators and teachers amply addressed the concern. That caused our meeting to go over by a half hour.
Think about that. Feeling that you are so important that your issues (which really aren't even issues, because folks spent a lot of time explaining that your kids will be accommodated) entitle you to waste waste other people's time. This parent behaved like that because they can, not because they should. It has nothing to do about the kids. Or being sheltered or not. It's about the selfishness of the parent. True. Meanwhile I'm sitting over here watching stuff from when I was a kid going "Holy crap! You let me watch this?" And you're telling me this movie over here is too delicate for children? I gave my brother night terrors because he watched the cartoon version of Tales of the Crypt with me once on Saturday morning. And *I* was that got in trouble. Umm excuse me but based on recent events shouldn't it have been YOUR job to monitor what we were watching and complained to NBC about what they allowed children to watch? Now I want to ask my dad that and see what response I get.

We grabbed a kolache and coffee and made light-speed visit to Aldi. The bathrooms are cleaned, and there's a load in the dryer. Early lunch with friends and easy fix pasta dinner.

And, in words I never thought would spring forth from my keyboard, Cocaine Bear is very good. It uses every possible stereotype and a good dash of slapstick to make a movie that is funny while putting forward some interesting perspectives on love and loyalty

Y'all I went to boxing tonight and the instructor hurt himself. I feel so bad for him. He was demonstrating an exercise and I thought he was lifting too much weight. He's pretty fit, so I've seen him lift pretty heavy before. His bicep snapped. I didn't hear it pop, but he did. He left class and went to the hospital. I hope he's OK. I'm pretty sure that if it's torn that's going to be something that's going to take a while to come back from. ooh....I saw something similar in a boot camp workout 10-12 years ago. our instructor was trying to show us how to do a new drill, except she was cold. she was halfway across the field and we all heard this loud POP! when her calf muscle tore mid-step. it was horrible, and it did take her a long time to come back from. I hope your instructor pulls through okay. That is scary.

I slept like a baby last night. I LOVE the new beds. In fact I stayed in bed way longer then I should have. And I think the kitties are pretty happy, both were asleep with me, LOL I did not hear hubs rolling and hitting the head board against the wall even once. He has restless legs and sleeping in the same bed is impossible with him. These are fastened together but still doesn't make the other move if his does. He said he did wake up once too warm so turned on the fan a bit, then went back to sleep. I had left the mattress protectors on the other beds but found one and put it on his mattress this morning. I think that will make a difference. I need to order 2 of them anyway to keep the mattresses clean. He said maybe it just got warm and wasn't the mattress. He didn't complain about the comfort, just that he would not have paid that much. I understand that, but thankfully I believe they are worth it. Afterall, over 20 years and we are still using the other ones. These will likely last the rest of our lives or I hope they do. Having adjustable beds will help them do so.
We are losing our heart doc, so I ordered refills of our pills and hope we can get them. I also need to find a new heart doc for us there as we have tests coming up our next visits. Also ordered refills of hubs high blood pressure med and got an appointment with his primary care doctor.
DD's neurologist is going to try something for her headaches/migraines I've never heard of. They are going to do botox injections, she said they have been having really good results with doing this. So she has an appointment in a couple of weeks, they said 2 visits usually helps. I have never heard of that before and since DD doesn't mind needles she was all for trying it. I will let you folks know if it helps her.
Got a lot of things done like those calls this morning. Hubs is almost ready to take off to Washington again. He is going to scrub down the mobile, paint it. Fix the water drip in the tub up there. Check the furnace, something is wrong with it. I think the ductwork is disconnected, if not something else. We were there only 34 days, the first light bill $238, the second $311 and it wasn't even on 70 or 73 during the day and a lot of days did not run. But I'm like him it runs and runs too much when it does and did not get very warm. There is plenty of room under it if he can get in the crawl space and under it. It would not surprise me if they put in a new furnace that is too small or did not connect it properly. That is crazy high bills. And I wash clothes only on cold water. I'm sure hubs will find out the issue. No surprise some things are wrong with it.

Ok, to eat something and go clean my screened in porch. Been wanting to do that for a week. The dirt from the fields behind us is just thick on it. It got really dusty for awhile and then the planting too. Even the cats going out there will get that all over their fur so needs done. Also so I can't really grill or cook out there like that, yuck.
When hubs leaves, I'm cleaning the rest of the basement, getting rid of some books and hopefully sew me some jams, shorts, and top.
I don't like short shorts or crop tops that seem to be in this year.
DD and I are leaving the 27th, so hubs is going to try and be back so we don't have to leave the kitties at the kennel. It's not only the money, hubs said it sound like its too traumatic for them to be there. I can't even imagine him saying that!

We were in Edinburgh today and had the best excursion ever. It was whisky tasting and bagpipe lessons. The tasting was put on by a club that buys single cask and then either stores them longer or recasts them for additional storage. We tried 3, all quite different, but good. I bought one bottle. For those of you counting, we now have 8 bottles of single malt scotch to fit in our luggage. This increases TD’s collection by 50%. I think it’s starting to grow on me.
The bagpiper was the national bagpiper of Scotland. She performs at all th3 special occasions in UK representing Scotland. She was really funny, an$ I don’t think that I have ever laughed so hard. TD did remarkably good, so he was brought up to the front, kitted out with a hat, scarf and kilt (over his shorts) and was the Sargent Major Piper. Soooo funny! TD held the bagpipe, she played (and was really good). I have a horrible feeling that TD is going to come home with a set of bagpipes some day! Yes, his pipin* does sound like he’s torturing Sheldon.
We have an appointment with the cruise consultant in 30 min. There is room on the ship that we could continue onto NYC if we want. I threw it by him and he said ok. Didn’t balk. In NYC, I have 2 days of blood pressure meds left. That works.

You want some awesome, comfortable shoes and sandals. Try Orthofeet. They are not the most fashionable, but if you have very wide feet, arch or other issues, these shoes are to die for.
I just got another pair of Laguna sandals in peach and DD a pair in blue. They are go to shoes for us, DD has XWide feet and mine are broken down, so they serve us well. Since I have lost weight I can order a smaller size and not so wide as I don't have the big orthotics I did, so that makes me happy too.
I'm just in a gosh, darn, good mood today actually. I just feel good, no body aches anywhere, for me that is wonderful.

So if your heat is electric, that could be about right.

Beyond pissed at mva. I’d called to confirm what documents I needed to register my inherited car, made the appointment, waited the extra fifteen minutes while they called everyone in front of me, then they told me I can either pay 6% sales tax or go back and get a bill of sale from trustee. Because signing it over on the title* wasn’t enough. They couldn’t even get their stories straight; the first guy told me I needed to register it in my name in FL first, the supervisor I asked to talk to after that said no don’t do that you’ll owe sales tax. Yes, I filed a complaint. Just call me Karen. So glad I wasted nearly two hours of my workday on that *plus death certificate, copy of trust, DL, proof of insurance

I FINALLY got my screened in porch hosed down, the windows, table, chairs, grill, and griddle cleaned out there. I sat down for a bit, now washing the grill cover on the clothes line and the mats I have out there. I have a type of tile out there with slots all over in them so bare feet are out, it hurts my feet. So I have those foam type mats out there so I can grill barefooted. It looks so nice, clean, and fresh. The dirt was thick on stuff, about as bad as I've seen it before.
Hubs is packed up to leave. I swear that man likes to drive and work. We are definitely selling another house this year but still have not decided whether to move or not. We are selling to replenish the money we have spent. I've looked at hundreds of houses up there, and anything in our price range is as he says fairly shoddy. We would have to spend $600 to $800k to get something comparable to our house. And I'm not talking as big or as many outbuildings either. But since the tornado here with over 200 houses damaged or totaled houses are selling. I just saw where one was listed for an hour, sold! We have mixed feelings, I want to give it a year or more before deciding, neither of us has a problem with that. Will give us time to keep downsizing stuff too.
If we sell our house we could add another garage at his folks house and we could make it nicer, add another bathroom, reconnect the upstairs, would rather move nearer to town. We remodeled it for renting and looks pretty good, but I really don't want to live there. No pleasant memories there for me. I would rather take the money from this and build new here, if we stay, we could build a very nice one, closer in. But right now not an issue. We have a place we can use up there, its economical, well have to see about the heat?? but is otherwise. So we have time.
