long story. it was returned to me b/c I paid what I owed and not the fee that was attached b/c it was late when I never received the first bill. I hate MA sometimes. so that said, it has never been cashed. is it still a good check to be presented for payment? I'll have to defer on that one. But if they returned it once because it wasn't the full amount wouldn't they do it again? that's what the check with the memo line is for - the bullshit fees. I just want to make them have to process both checks since it's their system that's fucked up. apparently in MA, where we have this crap called 'excise tax' on our cars every spring (but not consistent as to exactly when, from town to town) that if you don't receive an excise tax bill, that it is your responsibility to 1) realize that, 2) ask your tax collector for it, and 3) pay the bill...all within 30 days of it *being issued* the check that was returned had a photocopy of some town bylaw I've never seen before with it, highlighting that "failure to receive a bill doesn't remove the liability to pay it." um, okay. if I knew what the dollar amount was and where to send it, I could proactively pay the damn thing. the town I currently live in issues these things 2/27, as I learned this week. in my previous town, I'd get the bill in early April. I have yet to get the original here in the current house. so I'm supposed to magically know when the bill gets issued? that's complete bullshit. so I've already added an appointment in my calendar for 3/1/24 to call Town Hall and report that I haven't received by bill and to re-send with a tracking number so I don't fall behind. *I'm a lot frustrated with this, and not trying to argue with you or anything. but I sure intend to be as fucking petty as possible this week.

Got the call about half an hour ago, aunt is gone. The nurse said she was really suffering - at least that is over. I have 1 last meeting at 10 and then headed home. I'm trying not to throw up. I'm so sorry.

Chiver, I am confused. Did you submit two checks for the car excise tax? One for the amount of the tax and one for late fees?
If it were me I would call the town complex and find out what they want and are looking for. One single check? Have they assessed more late fees? After you know that, write one check for what needs to be paid.
Memo line on the check is for the writer but can be used for info requested by utilities, etc. No requirement for whoever processes payments in your town office to look at it and if they just send out to a bank to process these payments, the memo line is even less likely to be looked at. Yeah local laws can suck. You only find out you've run afoul of them after it happens generally.
On the back of the checks are there any lines showing it was scanned and processed by one or more banks, or is it as you gave it to them?

the details as to 1 vs 2 don't matter... thats why I didnt give them at first. the check would be handed in to the same office, alongside a 2nd for the additional fees. the 1st was returned uncashed. is it still legal tender for presentation after being endorsed and crossed out?
I'm actually driving over now, so I can get a dated receipt for payment today and this can be over and done with. plus, it's a scenic drive for the pups in the backseat.

Details will matter if and only if that town requires everything to be on one check. In the old system here, if I was late with rent even if by a day, they wanted a certified check with the full amount given to them. If they were feeling generous, sometimes they would take back the check for rent and accept another check for the late fee. Not often though.

that's why I didn't fill it out til I got there. I only brought the 1 blank with me. no requirement for a single check. snarky memo line comment made, and I got my dated receipt. the woman was confused when I asked about a single check. I said well, if they are going to make me waste a 2nd check, I'm going to waste their time to process both. 🤷♀️. I'll be interested to see what the back of the original looks like after processing.
I actually ended up wasting more time than expected bc I misread the address (deputy tax collector, not at Town Hall) ans went to the industrial park near downtown first. turns out the office was in the park clear across town...so, 1h+ round trip. 🙄

I'm definitely not fit fo4 public interaction this week, between this bullshit and the site visit to the new office.

Ugh. I just realized it's only 4 weeks until we leave on vacation! How did that get here so fast? I am really not ready. Guess I know what I'll be doing this weekend.... DD1 and I are going to see a musical the second weekend in June. A month ago I was like ....that's sooooo far away. Last night, I may have said...shit..it's coming up quick.

I want to take a nap. Successfully made it to the doctors and back. Internet provider came early and replaced my outdated modem/router combination so hopefully things will work out better than they have been the last few days. Need to eat some veggies. My friend bought me a nice lunch at the nearby Spanish oriented market. Really good pork chop & veggies and red beans. Good to know he has bought food from them in the past. I always look but usually get there too late. Apparently lunch or early dinner is the time to come. Volunteered my oranges but apparently a friend gave him apples and oranges so he did not want them. Now to plan for my blood draw and see if I am up to contacting the body shop. My contact leaves for the day in less than 2 hours.

huge town, 134sq mi. I'm basically on the southern border, and the office was almost at the northern one. google maps says 17.5mi via the back roads route I took home.

Whatcha seeing? DD14 finished our season tickets with JC Superstar and both were very meh about it. Apparently we're not fans of Andrew Lloyd Webber's work as Cats is the only other one that disappointed us. At least that one had entertaining costumes and antics.

We have little birds that are tearing up the screens to the windows. They sit on the window ledge and pull out the metal threads. Is there any way to get rid of them or stop them without hurting them?

Have no clue what it is about, but she is excited. We're also going to maybe stop and look at a few college campuses.
DD1 also wants to see Beetlejuice this fall as well. That's iffy.

I love JC Superstar but I think the staging and the cast has much to do with it as well. I've seen a small local version in NH, the original staged with the original cast album and the more recent John Legend version on TV. I strongly prefer the original version, but maybe that's my taste or how I measure all the versions. Still have not seen Cats, but want to watch the movie since its supposed to be so bad.

We did JC Superstar in high-school and it was amazeballs if I say so myself. Mixed cast, Judas was a girl and was just amazing.
Did I mention it was amazing?
Dh and I are going to The Book of Mormon I June. I cannot wait.

DEH has been dd14s fav for over a yr. I enjoy the music from it. I surprised her with tickets last spring in Indy. Put her in the car and drove- she didn't know until she saw the theater truck there. Great show. She's been sad that it's going to stop touring so I looked around and bought tickets for one of the last shows in Central IL. Sprung for really great seats since it's a small, cheaper venue. Weekend after finals so will be good to reconnect. If you want to earn points, get her a DEH shirt off Amazon. They will be pricy at the show.

Beetlejuice is part of our season next year.
Book of Mormon is an extra - she's still deciding if she wants to see it with DH. She said it might make her too uncomfortable. It's too raunchy for me.

I preferred Cats over Jesus Christ Superstar. I just really didn't like that one and couldn't wait for it to end. I'm a huge fan of Phantom so I'm not sure it's ALW hate.
Dear Evan Hanson was good. We've seen Book of Mormon and enjoyed it. It's definitely not for all though.
We saw Six last week and actually really enjoyed it. I was meh about the description and wouldn't have picked it to attend outside of my subscription.
We finally get Moulin Rouge next season. I feel like I've been voting for it in the subscriber survey for the last four years. We also get Beetlejuice.
This season we also got To Kill A Mockingbird which I've been waiting for since 2019. It was part of our covid ruined 19/20 season.

I enjoyed Six more than I thought. I let Dd14 take a friend with her and then bought a nosebleed seat.
We both liked TKAMB.

Today we were in the Orkney Islands. Only choice of an excursion was an included one. There were a lot of groups going out, we were in the third of the morning, with a departure time of 9:45. We sat in the theater until 11, waiting for them to call our tender group. They finally did, and we got onshore around 11:15 and found the bus. We were on our way by 11:30, 15 minutes later we were supposed to be returning! Went to see an older Stonehenge called Brodgar. Drove around the countryside and came back at around 2. Last tender was supposed to be at 4, so decided to get lunch in town and wander around a bit.
Lunch was in a pub, I had an oatmeal stout that was really, really good. TD had an IPA (blech). Both had sandwiches which were really good. Then TD went off to take pics and I wandered through shops. I stopped in a yarn shop, where I could have done some severe damage. Prices were cheaper than home, but just don’t have any room. I bought a set of straight needles to transfer the project I brought on this trip over to. I brought circular needles…..hate ‘em. I did see some really nice stuff, and was tempted but didn’t. Met TD back at the tender and came back to the ship. Today was his birthday, and they dropped a cake and a bottle of champagne off for him. Our cabin steward wished him happy birthday this morning, he thought I put her up to it. I told no one.
There was the Viking Venus also in town, along with AIDA Luna (I think that’s the name). Potential for 4000 people to be roaming about. Tour guide said they are slated to receive 160 cruise ships this year. I imagin3 locals hate it, but business owners love it.

I would never tell a relative that. That's not how you want to think of your loved one's last days. Anyway, I'm sorry.

Andrew Llyod Weber is a mixed bag. I LOVED my VHS of the Broadway Production of CATS and actually watched a few clips on Youtube recently. When I went to see the Broadway tour? I wanted to stab my brain it was awful and boring. I have seen Phantom three times, own the soundtrack and I also have the movie version. Never get sick of it. Jesus Christ Superstar ranks a very close number two for me. I went to see it twice at the Omaha Community Playhouse. I watched the NYC Broadway cast on TV. Did not care for the version with John Legend he felt very flat to me and IMO his vocal range wasn't right for a lot of the songs. The guy that played Jesus at the Playhouse was fantastic. My mom developed a major crush on him. The actor that played Judas was also phenomenal. He played Lola in Kinky Boots recently. I could listen to him sing me the phone book. Gethsemane is my favorite song from JCS. I listen to Steve Balsamo sing it all the time. I watched Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat with Donny Osmond when it was free on Youtube during the pandemic. I had no idea Donny could be that hot. There were a couple really good songs in it but otherwise it was a miss for me. I wanted to see it locally but it was supposed to show during 2020 so never happened. I am okay now with passing if it comes around again.

The musical I've been least impressed with despite the hype? Hamiltion.
There I said it. It wasn't bad and the songs are catchy but I don't get it. I started getting incredibly bored about half way through.
