Trying to find motivation. Work slowed down a bit and now my brain is realizing just how burned out it is. I really just want to sit at my desk like a blob. I'm tired of work, tired of fighting the kids to go to school, tired of dance. This Saturday I have to run the recital gamut. Abby called me fat this weekend. Specifically she asked me if I minded that I looked pregnant in a dress I just bought. Gwen's called me old several times. My self esteem is in the toilet. Fucked up the budget again because I can't get myself to focus on it as much as I should. Then there is Mother's Day coming up. DH had a health scare all the stupid energy drinks he consumes finally caught up to him on top of his quitting his blood pressure medication (because it was better! He didn't need it anymore!) and I am still pissed at him about it. Tell your kids if they're going to be unkind to you, you don't owe them any rides to activities, or anything. In fact, it could earn them a timeout at home in their rooms until they learn some manners. Yes, I was a "mean mom". If my kids were rude to me, there were penalties. Besides, they've got to learn not to be rude to others, as it may cost them a job, etc., when they get older. Just chalk it up to "kids can be a$$holes", and don't take it personally. Yeah. I just had that talk with the peanut. She's about an inch shorter than me, BTW.

I like Barnes and Nobles. I really can't read books fast enough to have it make sense to check out books from the library. I find it hard to justify buying books.
What about a favorite type of alcohol or GC to a liquor store? I'm loathing mother's day. It's feels more repulsive this year, rather than my normal anxiety/dislike over it.
And it's not like Christmas or St Nicks (or the Easter Bunny), where squeals of delight from kids rule. Or even nice comments from the kids about how the fictional characters manage to be thoughtful enough to know what they (the kids) want. It's much harder to fake getting through when you are worn out from faking it everywhere else.
Can you call a moratorium on mothers day at your house? Your dh can still go celebrate with his Mom, and the kids too for grandma. I'm not sure if you were planning on doing something for your mom but it seems like she's unhappy no matter what you do. I'm most likely skipping mothers day celebration with the inlaws. It's not personal (whether they take it that way is not my problem). I have no live parents or in laws. I just have my daughter's who try to pretend it's all about me, but I have to do it with DD2's husband's family and there are a lot of them. None of them are the quiet type and I don't like to be around large groups of people. I can't wait.

I am in desperate need of a dentist visit but all my adulting bandwidth is spoken for this week. DSIL is arriving for a delayed birthday/early Mother’s Day visit; we are arranging dinner delivery and I baked a chocolate cake and a fraisier cake on Sunday. No idea how the fraisier cake will taste but it looks cool. I got to deploy the GBBO inspired acetate collar I ordered a while back. Also changed the guest sheets and cleaned some, an appt with our own trust lawyer Thurs, continuing to sort out the three dissolving trusts, and I scheduled a skin cancer checkup at the dermatologist. And, plans to drive down and meet a friend for lunch Friday Procrastinate? Who, me?

See, I had scones once but this Irish soda bread must be something else. It was soft and moist so I imagine that muffins made out of that recipe would be more like blueberry muffins. Since I never tasted a read soda bread, I must have a recipe that’s not authentic. It was just a recipe I found in some blog years ago, it sounded good so I made it for a few years long time ago and now wish to try again. Thank you for pointing out it should be more like scones., gives me something to think about. anciana , Try this recipe from King Arthur: irish-soda-bread-muffins-recipeSwoon You, enabler, you I think I might just try your recipe since it’s meant to be made as muffins so it should work best. I did find the one I’ve been using: Recipe courtesy Brother Rick Curry, The Secrets of Jesuit Breadmaking, HaperPerennial, 1995

Boy that meme with the old lady standing in front of a huge china cabinet saying "Someday this will all be yours!" is scary accurate. I have no clue what to do with grandma's glass. I am still hunting for someone who might take it off my hands. Trying another antique store. Probably won't have time to swing by the one in downtown Council Bluffs this weekend. Looking at their web site it might be a good one to see if they'd purchase any of it. Then again it looks like they got so much of it they may not want the glass either based on their web site photos. Tempted to shove it all in the basement and make it Gwen's problem someday.

Big storms and rain yesterday and today but luckily the worst passed to the west and north of us. We'll be under flood watch until tomorrow night. You know it's going to be a frog strangler when the TV meteorologist posts on FB that he has high faith in the rain forecast because all the ants are building their mounds up above ground and even climbing the trees to save the eggs and larvae in their underground nests.

Hope you don't get flooded, soupandstew. Check out the ants in your garden to see if you should be concerned.

Preparing to get on train tomorrow. Will need to leave home by 4:15 a.m. to get there 20-30 minutes before train departs.
Just heard from Hertz, too. Apparently the Tesla they had tagged for my use has been held by the prior renter, so now they're scrambling to get me another. They can offer me another EV, which is fine by me. Nice thing about renting an EV besides getting to try one out is that there is no scrambling to top off the tank before returning the vehicle.
I'm glad to be taking the train. It's easy travel.

That’s a great idea rent an EV and no worries about filling up before return! I’m from NJ and we don’t pump our own gas so always nervous about how to do this . I have a Tesla and love it. Next time need to rent I’ll think about an EV Was the EV more? Less? Same?? Cost to rent as similar size ICE??

Actually, the EV was cheaper than the combustion engine vehicles to rent. Surprised me, too! About $20 less per day.

Hope you don't get flooded, soupandstew . Check out the ants in your garden to see if you should be concerned. The usually invisible underground nests are now about 6 inches above ground level. We had 1-3/4" this morning. As the old song goes, "How high's the water, Mama? Six ants high and rising"

#firstworldproblems
I'm freezing. I'm sitting out on the deck with Punk, bc she loves being outside and was somewhat cooped up while I was away. I'm about to log off for the night, but I feel like I'll be sitting out here a little longer. I do need to shred that BSCB I cooked earlier. but fuzzy slippers and a heavier hoodie than what I'm currently sporting may be in my immediate future.

Ok, I'm doing a short rant here, and might delete this later. Here's my question: what is wrong with single men in the USA today? I'm not talking 18-21 year olds, I'm talking about grown (supposedly) men in their 30's, 40's and 50's. My DD was asked out by 2 different random men, strangers to her, in the last 24 hours. (Just so you know, she has a steady BF right now.) One handled her rejection nicely, the other guy went off & screamed at her, calling her every name in the book. Now, this isn't the first time she's had some guy throw a temper tantrum when she told him she wasn't interested or available. The last guy who threw a tantrum was probably in his 50's. Of course, we KNOW why these guys are still single, but when did this become semi-normal behavior? I really worry about the next generation...

I vote killing it with fire. Screw this picking it up with a stick stuff. My thought exactly: a good old-fashioned flame thrower should do the trick. I need one of those anyway as I had a (that is correct a single) mosquito in my home last year. It was the bloody second time that happened - ok twice in 19 years may not be much but I hate those buzzing vampires. In other news, after 17 months of retirement, preceded by WFH for two years I've still got it. I can still swear like a sailor if someone really irritates me in traffic. Like pulling in the left lane at a red light thereby blocking my access to the left turn lane. The next turn is over one mile away so plenty of time to change lanes after the light, and I was using my blinkers the stupid such and so...

busymom , sadly that is the state of this nation. A man does not get the reaction that he wants, takes it out on the female, and it is all her fault.

Paid our thousands of dollars to day on insurance. I cringe this time of year.
But on our auto insurance, really think it's fair. We insured the old motorhome, full coverage, a small trailer, hubs 2019 4 X 4 F-150 truck, a 2018 Chrysler 300, and a 2020 Buick Envision, all full coverage for $2,080 for a years. So not unhappy with that. Hubs said he is doing the work on the motorhome and selling it quick as we can.He has the basement done except for the baseboard. We just ordered it, looks so nice. I don't know about the bathroom, maybe this fall.
I went to the meeting and found out DD can stay out of the state for 90 if needed. She said if I had let her know how sick I was, she could have done a virtual meeting. I think the case worker, had just meant we needed to do it within this 30 days. Next meeting will be August 14.
I was able to get into my doc right after lunch and she prescribed 3 meds for me, hubs just went to get them. She couldn't understand why he didn't prescribe anything. I'm sick enough my blood pressure is up, not normal for me. So I hope I get to feeling better pretty quickly. Right now I still feel really bad, so going to go take a nice hot bath and soak.
Going to have to get glasses, my old ones are just enough different they are bothering me. Can't see as good out of them and getting a headache or more of one I should say.
I am losing my heart doctor, he is going elsewhere, darn. My doc has referred me to someone for the cyst or growth on my wrist. It has gotten bigger and its hurting. Sometimes just the wrist, sometimes up into my thumb, just started that last week. It's hurting me right now, so something is wrong.
Ok, off for a soak in the tub, take my pills when he comes home and may sack out. Here I am almost a week later still sick.

My sister invited me to ride with her to the visitation on Friday. I told her it depends on two things.
1. Amelia's vet appoint 2. How my leg feels
I didn't tell her I probably don't want to spend that much time with her.

Last night's urge to urinate all the time was not accompanied by actual frequent urination. At some point after dinner, a bowl of ice cream and a fancy blanket on the couch for tablet time seemed to magically make the urge disappear. Ergo - it was not an actual symptom, just a 6yo exaggerating. Thankfully. Still had the fever though. Had to medicate again at 5am but nothing since then. Staying right at 99 right now so probably back to school tomorrow. No extracurricular activities tonight though. Which means she will miss dance and they only have 4 classes - well 3 after tonight - left before recital. But, I mean, she didn't turn the corner on the fever fast enough so it is what it is.

I had a dentist's appointment today too. Only I have 4 cavities. Three on one side and one on the other. Appointment next week to fill three. Then have to schedule another appointment for the one on the other side.
Also, work was irritating. If you outsource your research and development to a low cost region, you get what you pay for. Copy cat work. Every single time we have a meeting with this team it drives me bonkers because it is nothing but copy cat work. And today, none of it even applied because it was apples to our oranges. Critical thinking skills. I need people with critical thinking skills!
