Do you have venomous snakes where you live? Copperheads or rattlers? He would have left anyhow. You didn't have to throw bricks at him. We have a lot of venomous snakes where I live. I tried to convince him to leave with the water hose. The bricks were more convincing. ETA: He wasn't in the yard. He was in the carport very close to where I was using the water hose. So he had invaded MY territory, not the other way around. I had something similar happen years ago. I was visiting someone out of state and we were doing yard work. I turned around and a snake was right behind me. I hit it with the shovel until it stopped moving then ran inside for reinforcements. When we came out it was gone. There’s no snakes where I live and I had little experience with them but knew it wasn’t a rattlesnake or a gardener snake. I felt kinda bad afterward as it was desert climate and maybe it was drawn by the running water hose. If I had seen it coming the flight instinct would have kicked in and I would have vacated the area, but since I was startled by it, the fight instinct took over.

So regretting not doing any laundry for two weeks. It will all be caught up today though. We could easily go two weeks without doing laundry. We have a ridiculous amount of clothing and linens. However, DH is thoroughly against that plan--which is okay since he does more than half of the laundry. We can easily go that long too, but we would need more hampers!

I read up on benadryl and how much can be given. It said 2 to 4 mg for a 10 pound cat. He is closer to 15 so I cut off about a 1/4 of a 25 mg tablet. I crushed it up and took some softened butter and dabbed my finger in the butter and pill. He generally really likes butter. I rubbed it on his mouth, he sure didn't like that, but had to lick it off of course. He is resting better so I hope it helped. He was just miserable and couldn't get comfortable. I have a meeting with DD's state rep tomorrow, a home visit so not sure I can get him to the vet. If he is worse tomorrow I will get him in. Since the paw isn't hot I don't think its infected. Hubs thinks he has gotten stung, he can walk on it.

I've never seen a snake here, not even a little garden snake. We make up for it with scorpions, vinagrons, and brown recluse spiders.

I would take a snake over a spider anytime! Spiders are the worst, IMO. Yuck!

BG Blonde Granny I'm glad you had a good walk with your little dog today, but I'm wondering if you noticed the change in this thread after 10 years of post history was wiped out by a mod. Can you give us some input on how that might have happened?

He was in the carport very close to where I was using the water hose. So he had invaded MY territory, not the other way around. "Up in the carport" pretty much rules out a water moccasin/cottonmouth, so we are down to coral snakes, copperheads and rattlesnakes in the venomous category in the US, all of which are pretty easy to identify. Much of America is in drought stage and our local media is warning of increased snake sightings. I will not kill any non-venomous snake, or a venomous snake that is not directly threatening me. I have killed one coral snake that was an immediate threat, and relocated one copperhead in the last 30 years. Everybody has to make their own choice on this issue, but I vote reptile unless directly threatened. We aren't in a drought. We had a thunderstorm with heavy rain just this morning.

We do have brown recluse spiders and that's it. When the kids were little the rule was if it was black to either kill it or leave it alone. If it was brown to come and get me to deal with. I'm not afraid to spiders so I don't mind dealing with them. Critters on the other hand...

Does anyone know if there is any reason not to use a knee scooter vs. Crutches? And those who have used them best/worst parts?

if the exhibit is the same as what just toured the US, don't get your hopes up that it will be fantastic. I wanted to go as well, and then couldn't when it first opened here. and then I read a few reviews from reviewers I appreciate, so I just didn't go. having seen posts from friends since, I feel like I made the right decision in not going. obv, I'm not telling you what to do. if you do go. I'd be curious of your opinion of the exhibition.

I have failed to pay attention a couple of times when that came up and still deleted something that I didn't mean to. We are human, guys. We make mistakes. I may or may not see it here in KC. They started publicizing it on FB last September. Lots of terribly excited people. I think it was opening early December and many people were all excited about taking their family over Christmas. Where was it? Same boilerplate response. "Hi, (name). Thanks for your interest. we're working hard to find the right venue and get it ready, etc..." right up till they postponed it till February about 3 days before the projected opening and offered refunds. It FINALLY opened a month ago. BF works during the week so we'd be paying the "peak" weekend rate of $50 per person. I saw a similar show in Paris in 2019 and it was spectacular- dedicated to Klimt paintings and turn-of-the-century Vienna. It was in a former warehouse and they had lights even on the columns and in an upper loft. Strauss waltzes played, of course. I may have paid $20. I'm waiting to see if the KC Van Gogh exhibit is worth $50 a person after all that hype. And, on a more mundane subject, I'm back home from Omaha- we detoured through Lincoln NB to see places where BF and his family had lived and through Lewiston (pop.63) and Virginia (pop.71). Lots of good reminiscing.

DD1 went to this with a friend. She generally likes artsy stuff. She wasn't impressed and said she likes the real thing better. I've talked to other people who loved it. You'll have to let me know what you think.

So on the subject of snakes: in the past my reaction bas been to freeze. I was too scared to move - in my defense it was a cobra and those suckers are aggressive and faster than you can imagine. Around here in CA there are only rattlers and you have to go to the more rural areas/parks to encounter them. That said if I come across one I will do anything to avoid getting close to it but if a snake comes in my direction any stone is fair game! I may not be good at throwing things but what I lack in precision I will make up for in quantity. Snakes totally freak me out.
