Now what? What will the US and the rest of the world do? Will we really stay out of the fighting? Would that be the right thing to do considering that we have been quite involved for years now? Why has approval for Ukraine to join NATO taken this long? I know far too little about this situation...
Thoughts?

Watching ABC right now. One reporter said the American people would prefer not to be embroiled in another war, and I agree. I'm going to watch and learn.

It looks like the Ukrainians aren't at full strength ............. they weren't yesterday, and they had enough warning. Things are changing quickly.... there has been a call to arms..
We cannot give a nuanced response.... It must be perfectly clear that Russia is invading another Country, breaking international law and being the villian in all this. otherwise, Putin will be emboldened and think about invading other areas.... maybe challenging NATO (and bringing us to WAR)
Russian state TV are painting themselves at the victims.
These sanctions must be coordinated and effective and from all Western Countries..... Russia must not be allowed to get away with this.

I read an article yesterday that said what Putin really wants is the natural gas pipeline that goes through the Ukraine. Russia has been paying Ukrainian 2 billion a year for access rights to use it. I guess he hopes it will be quick and easy to seize Ukraine and then he doesn’t have to pay anything.
If I can find that article I’ll post.

The pipeline was from Russia in to Europe.(across the Ukraine and for which they paid rent)
Then there is another one, Nord Stream 2, which is under the Baltic sea and going from Russia to Europe.
Except that the EU announced, as part of its sanctions for Russian aggression, that Nord Stream 2 is cancelled and they won't be buying gas from Russia. So there is nowhere for him to sell it.

I support providing maximum military support to the Ukraine short of committing actual forces engaged in combat while imposing all economic sanctions possible on Russia. We need to make this as hard on the Russian military, economy, and the Russian people as we can. Tying down their military in the Ukraine for an extended period, assisting the Ukrainian military and resistance to destroy as much equipment as they can, and sending a large number of filled body bags back to Russia should be goals.

Can we charge Americans who voice support for Russia and the genius Putin with treason?
I’ve started a list. One rhymes with and one with fucker.

I think a lot of it is the $2 billion they have to pay in fees for the pipeline. It's always follow the money.
I honestly wish we could intervene, we could likely stop it. But move weapons there and support the Ukranians. It's terrible for able countries to sit back and watch this happen.
The Russians are trying to take over Chernobyl, not good, not good at all.
We are all just sitting back and watching this happen. Europe is most affected they should be putting troops in there and fighting them, it's on their border. Sad, sad

We can't act with soldiers on the ground, unless its a NATO country..... though we do have soldiers in the neighbouring NATO Countries (supposedly to help evacuate)
We can't go directly to War with Russia..... as it could end in a nuclear War.
They have just been taking about this in Parliament. Russia has a program of misinformation I think they are going to put in legislation to go after the misinformation peddlars in this country, tbh.

I don't think we should send our troops yet, but lets send them every bad@ss MF weapon we possibly can! And maybe some of that money we are saving by not being in the middle east.
Americans' are tired of war, we just got out of the last one that went on for 2 decades. But if NATO has to get involved, its a different story.
I have been watching this all unfold and feel horrible for the Ukrainians. Putin needs to be dealt with. He's been allowed to "play" for way too long!

I'm not sure what this means as far as potential for major issues, but Russian troops have seized Chernobyl.

I find it interesting that the Right and the Left now have a common enemy. This might be just what we need.

What are they going to do with it?
Anyone getting too close will get leukaemia.
Unless they are guarding it so it doesn't get bombed.

I wonder if the Chernobyl plant can be used for "spare parts" - so maybe some war lord (or say North Korea or maybe Iran) might be interested in purchasing the bits and pieces they need. There's no better time to get those bits and pieces than during the confusion caused by war. (Maybe I've read too many Vonnegut novels... Milo Minderbinder (the personification of Capitalism) would surely find a way to sell or use anything left at Chernobyl....)

If Putin had a long term plan that he started in motion 5 or 6 years ago... it looks like his efforts with setting up America to "go his way" may have worked out well for him. Politics is a Long Game after all... At the very least even though trump didn't get re-elected Putin's got a ally in trump -- who can help maintain the divide in American politics. Didn't trump pull the US out of NATO? Or perhaps help to weaken it?? Didn't trump do a lot of things that ultimately may be helping Putin right now? I wonder if trump (and his family) is getting any sort of "promised" kickback or business deals from this invasion...

I would bet that the United States has had a missile aimed at every location it is remotely likely that Putin would be for a long time.

I’d prefer nuclear warfare not become a possibility, if at all possible. Just the idea of it scares the bejesus out of me. I understand that’s the biggest “gun” we have, but I hope and pray it doesn’t come to that.

Trump is claiming if the 2020 election was fair and he was POTUS Russia would never have invaded Ukraine and the MAGA heads are going along with it. Everything always about him. is that where that came from? bc I legit just saw that almost verbatim from a HS classmate, except he actually said "orange man***" which floored me bc he's a backwoods NH hick these days. I pulled up a link to quotes of Trump praising Putin this morning and said AYFKM? if "orange man" was still in office, he'd have paid for a police escort right in. ***I am actually quoting a post. I'll provide a screen shot if needed. 🤷♀️
