Well, just like we see an increase in general sickness when cold weather hits and people can't be outside, I'm sure covid deaths will increase as well.
With 185M fully vaccinated, do you think that number will increase or will the number of unvaccinated just decrease through death?

Big benefit is for less developed countries that have difficulty in managing to vaccinate people. Having pills available to help them will reduce hospitalization and deaths Congratulations and many thanks to Merck

With 185M fully vaccinated, do you think that number will increase or will the number of unvaccinated just decrease through death? I think several things will happen. 1. Children will start getting vaccinated and that will push the number up a little. 2. People who were borderline and held to the "too fast/too new" reasoning will start to feel more comfortable as 2.5BILLION people around the world lap the one year mark and no problems are showing up. If someone goes to the doctor for something else, they may start to listen a little better. 3. More companies will mandate it / people will get sick of testing and just quietly get the vaccine. 4. People will get scared by the increasing intensity of new variants are go ahead and get vaccinated. One thing I know for sure - the number of fully vaccinated people won't go down by much.

Having pills available to help them will reduce hospitalization and deaths Congratulations and many thanks to Merck We are way too early to hope for that. Drug has been tested in far too few people to know it’s true toxicities. Counting on this is overly optimistic at this point. Focus and effort should be on vaccination. In addition, this decreases need for hospitalization by 50%. Given the resources in the third world, it doesn’t solve the problem

Lindsey Graham getting pushback for recommending the Covid vaccine. www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/republicans-shout-down-lindsey-graham-for-pushing-vaccine/ar-AAP7zWK?ocid=msedgntp“If you haven’t had the vaccine you ought to think about getting it because if you’re my age—” Graham said, before he was interrupted by boos and shouts of “No!” from the audience.
“I didn’t tell you to get it, you ought to think about it,” Graham continued, shrugging to the audience as they heckled him.
“Well, I’m glad I got it. Ninety-two percent of people in hospitals in South Carolina are unvaccinated,” before he was drowned out by shouts of “false!” and “not true!”
“How many of you have taken measles shots?” Graham asked, prompting another series of boos and cries of “it’s not the same!”

I wonder what makes people believe in conspiracies, We had Crop circles, Aliens, Fake moon landings ..... and Goodness only knows what all that rubbish Qanon was spouting, was about. They would rather get information from a guy in a caravan ... than listen to the greatest minds in the Country. and Cults... where people are so brainwashed that they let the leader father loads of children by their own wives....... or commit mass suicide because they think they'll be beamed up onto a comet. When does a free thinking person realise that if it sounds stupid.... it probably is. Its really sad to see people dying..... when it didn't have to be that way.

I think it’s like a frog in hot water. If you drop him in hot water he’ll jump out, but put him in cold water and then slowly raise the temp and before he realizes he’s cooking it’s too late. Before you can realize you’re in a cult, it’s too late.

For here, that I should have posted earlier. www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/in-a-letter-to-the-editor-a-man-said-his-relative-is-past-covid-and-completely-immune-then-came-the-twist/ar-AAOZ1m6?ocid=msedgntp“Florida’s new surgeon general, Dr. Joseph Ladapo, is spot-on with his observation that the best form of prevention from COVID-19 is for persons to have an infection because this will provide the best immunity,” Chamberlain wrote. “I am aware that he is correct because of a recent experience with a member of my family. He had a severe infection from COVID-19. He is past that now and is completely immune — not only for COVID-19 but flu and other respiratory infections as well.”
Chamberlain concluded that “Dr. Ladapo’s recommendation works.” Then, he ended the letter with an absurdist twist: “Of course we are burying this family member next week.”

I have never understood this mentality about "all natural" from vaccines to raw water. Yet they come running demanding modern medicine save them when their philosophy backfires in their face. How about we do "all natural medicine" too? I don't think they would like being sent off into the wilderness to die.

But yes, poison ivy works, just won't kill you.

How about we do "all natural medicine" too? I don't think they would like being sent off into the wilderness to die. I just read an article this morning in the NYT where a university affiliated hospital refuses to do kidney transplants on patients who have not been vaccinated against covid. Their reasoning was that following transplantation and immunosuppression - you know, to keep from rejecting that kidney that's keeping you alive - that the risk of death is 18-32% in unvaccinated transplant patients compared to 1.6% in healthy patients. This woman's logic just blows my mind. Here she is - using the best available of medical science to stay alive - with the use of lifetime, incredibly nasty drugs that have a buttload of side effects, and a surgery that is not done by every place - but doesn't want to comply. You don't think your lack of a kidney is going to affect your health? How about dialysis? The patient, Leilani Lutali, told the TV station that she had learned of the hospital’s policy as her donor was undergoing required testing. She said that she worried about how the vaccines might affect her health in the future, and that she and her donor had declined them for religious reasons. “I’m being coerced into making a decision that is one I’m not comfortable making right now in order to live,” Ms. Lutali said.www.nytimes.com/2021/10/06/us/covid-vaccine-kidney-transplant.html

Why are you drawing the line here? Your choice not to get vaccinated raises the question of what other guidelines are you going to refuse because you "don't agree" with them and waste an organ that could go to someone else?

Since transplant centers are graded on their results, and transplantation of a kidney in most cases is a quality of life issue, it makes perfect sense for a transplant center to make decisions to maximize outcomes. She can always find a transplant center that doesn't have those requirements. Not like you can force a medical professional to carry out things that go against their conscience, right? (see pharmacists and OCPs)

You need to take the immunosuppressive drugs every day, not just when you remember or feel like it. Compliance is incredibly important and if you are not going to be compliant - buh bye. The hypocrisy is just mind boggling.

Unless you are Mickey Mantle. Kidney transplants are interesting. They are actually cost effective in addition to improving quality of life. Transplanting someone is cheaper than dialysis. So, they have fewer exclusion criteria, but you need to follow the rules so they are successful, and, if it increases your risk of death, they won't do it.

One doctor told me of multiple patients now on dialysis because of Covid.

Is it true that the donor is donating to this individual? If so, do you think they understand the risks?

Both need to be vaccinated, according to the article. This makes sense, as they won’t want to put a potentially infected kidney into a recipient where they are going to knock the shit out of her immune system. She’d then be a sitting duck for covid.
I doubt they understand the risks, or they would be vaccinated. I’m sure the doctors explained it to her.

Lutali said.www.nytimes.com/2021/10/06/us/covid-vaccine-kidney-transplant.htmlDid not want to create an account to read the article, so I don't know if this is correct. Is it true that the donor is donating to this individual? If so, do you think they understand the risks? The Times article doesn't say anything more about the donor than what's in the snippet quoted above.
It's a fairly short article. The hospital was not able to comment much but they did manage to get this.
A hospital spokesman told The Denver Post that transplant patients were generally required to meet similar requirements before and after surgery, even before the pandemic. “Patients may be required to receive vaccinations including hepatitis B, MMR and others,” the spokesman told the paper in an email. “Patients may also be required to avoid alcohol, stop smoking, or prove they will be able to continue taking their anti-rejection medications long after their transplant surgery.”
IMO, the hospital is not doing the best possible job of explaining why they require all this stuff from transplant patients. They've definitely missed their opportunity to point out that they require these vaccinations prior to surgery because they cannot reliably be done after the patient is on anti-rejection meds. With their immune systems pretty much knocked out, they can get the shots but they are likely not to have an immune reaction and will not develop immunity.
Maybe they explain it better to the patients, but they aren't explaining the reasoning well to the public.

They never needed to explain this sort of thing before. We also get people vaccinated for a number of things prior to chemotherapy. People get tested for TB before they get put on immunosuppressive agents to avoid a reactivation.
People are rejected for transplants(and barbaric surgery) for a whole host of reasons. You go through a rigorous medical an psychological evaluation prior to these surgeries. You get rejected for any number of reasons, you don’t like it, go somewhere else. Another transplant program( maybe in the great red utopia of Florida may do it), may see the risks differently. Happens all the time, people are listed at one program and not another.
