I don't know how the tests were distributed but friends in the Boulder Colorado area received theirs the weekend after the site opened.
My sister received hers a week before I did.

And...DGS2 tested out of quarantine today with a negative PCR test. Back to preschool for him tomorrow. Neither his parents nor his brother ever tested positive. Did the vaccine protect them? Who knows, but they did escape this round. The original positive test for DGS2 revealed that he was infected with the Omicron variant.
Do they check for the variant here as well? Just curious. One of DGS1 friends and friend's sister tested positive earlier this week. Friend has Omicron, sister Delta. The (elementary) school is back to daily testing.

In my state, we have been told they are testing a sample of tests for which variant of Covid it is. We have not been told the sample size.

I don't disagree! I just feel bad for families dealing with it. Everyone has decided the pandemic is over but they're stuck. The kids are still susceptible themselves and little vectors of disease to pass it on to everyone else. I don't know how we would be coping. Governor dropped the mask mandate this week, but businesses and other entities can still have their own. My employer is still keeping our mask rule for the time being (Board of Trustees would need to vote to change it). You wouldn't know it, though, judging by all the people who walked in w/o a mask today. C'mon, you had to miss the mask required sign on the outer door, AND the bigger one on the inner door, AND the one at the hand sanitizer station! Really? We want to keep masks for the sake of the under 5 kids, who still can't get vaxxed. Looks like it's going to be hard to maintain, now that state mandates are lifted. Back to normal! Mask mandates have mostly been lifted in my area, and even though some of the businesses are still requiring them, nobody is enforcing, so it's not happening as much as I would hope. I try to avoid crowds, still shop less than before and try to shop in the areas that I know more people are still careful while wearing a KN95 mask myself. I have reasons to maintain more vigilance for the time being and this is part of it.

I have reasons to maintain more vigilance for the time being and this is part of it. Yeah, our area is easing up on mask mandates too. I've been trying to get together with a friend to go out to dinner. We're both fully vaxxed and boosted. Originally the plan was to eat at a restaurant with outdoor seating. It's warm enough here, and most places have heaters in their outdoor seating areas so it can be comfy. My friend felt the temps at dinnertime would be too cold though, even with heaters. So we postponed it. There was a warm spell for a few days but we were both busy. The temps have since fallen a bit, and my friend wants to eat inside now that the mask mandates are being lifted. As far as I'm concerned, that's even less reason to eat inside. Some people seem to think the pandemic is over just because mask mandates are being lifted.

Our school district has lots of unclaimed test kits, so sent out another robocall offering them to parents who would pick them up. They *hoped* people would use them to test before returning to school after the mid-winter break next week.
DH went to get a kit - they asked how many he wanted (it was limit 1 per student, before). Obviously they can't even give them away. He got 2 kits, of 2 tests each.
Still no word on the federal test kits DH ordered.

If kids get sick they test them there and/or send them home with some. I honestly haven't heard boo from the school at all this year. No quarantines or exposure warnings like last year. My 6th grader hasn't missed a single day yet.

My 6th grader hasn't missed a single day yet. Our county health dept quit contact tracing about the time Omicron ramped up, so it's all been the honor system since then. If you get Covid, you can call everyone and give them the bad news, yourself. Ha, right! Ok, actually the normal people who care about others WILL inform people and quarantine. And the gossip grapevine is functioning much better now that the kids are in school every day. So DS5's friend network has had several out w/ Covid or family member quarantine recently. You wouldn't know it from the state school report card website tracking school Covid numbers, though. That looks like almost no cases in HS and MS (lots in ES). Reading between the lines, they are reporting cases caught by tests given in school. Oh...

I learned yesterday that one of our maintenance guys who works on the floor was admitted to the hospital for Covid pneumonia. He was given oxygen for 24 hours but his level kept dropping, so he is currently on a CPAP machine to see if that helps. Has already been told to expect to be there for weeks. His wife updates FB a couple times a day, and her last update included "although it is debatable please get vaccinated".
His is one who has been very vocal with "its no worse than the flu" and "I am not getting no vaccine", and berating people who got vaxed. How'd that work out for you?

On Nextdoor.com, someone asked if anyone got the free COVID tests and masks that Biden promised. There were lots of responses. Some people didn't know you had to request the tests from the website, and could go to a pharmacy to get your free masks. Most people responded that they had gotten both.
And then there were the requisite random crazy folks. One said that the swabs in the free home test kits are being sent to China with our DNA and without our consent and used for data. Don't people just dispose of them in the trash?
And not surprisingly there were more than a few that said people should start living their lives and stop isolating themselves because 1. COVID is over, 2. it's nothing more than a bad cold, 3. it's not nearly as contagious as everyone thinks, etc.
I have been trying to have dinner out with a friend of mine. She is much more lax about COVID than I am. We live in an area where outdoor dining is year round and if it's on the colder side, outdoor heaters are used. She thinks it's been too cold to do that and tried to get me to eat inside. I said we should postpone it until the weather warmed up. She recently contacted me and said now that the mask mandate is going away there should be no problem eating indoors. Umm, the mask mandate is not what was keeping me from indoor dining. Without the mandate, it's even more risky to eat indoors. So we are getting together for lunch, outdoors, when it is warmer out.

Do you think if Covid ever ends, the unvaccinated and unmasked will ever be forgiven? Will there always be a grudge?

Maybe not a grudge but certainly judgement. Covid made us really get to 'know' certain people and their beliefs. How could I trust them on other important life decisions?

Covid will not end. The pandemic part of it will fade away, but it will continue to cause infections. Given both the reluctance to vaccinate, and the pace of vaccinating the world, we will continue to have flare ups where infections spike, like the flu. Given the complete lack of care about our fellow man that the anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers have exhibited, I am in no mood to forgive them. Not to mention the unreasonable people I have had to deal with over the last 2 years. These people also overlap greatly with the first 2 groups.

I'll continue to be wary of the anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers. I will also continue to question their intelligence.

I have a long memory. I know who the anti-vaxxers and anti-maskers in my world are. I don't have time or energy for them because it tells me a lot about their entire belief system.

With few exceptions, Anti vaxxers are not welcome in my home. Which is kinda funny since ex-housemates are anti-vaxxers. I used to feel like they were just putting themselves at risk. But I stopped inviting them over when nephews came along too young to be vaccinated against measles. Just not worth the risk and Covid pushed it over the edge.
I don't think it's about forgiveness. They've shown they really only care about themselves so I don't need to care about them either.

I saw sides of friends and family I didn't want to see and stopped following a few on FB. At my HS reunion I was having a pleasant conversation with one of the guys who was considered "hot" and popular back then. When he let loose on the topic of vaccines and told me why he wasn't vaccinated I found an excuse to back away. Then I warned another of our classmates who's a liver transplant recipient that she might want to avoid him.

But since they are staying home mostly and are over 65, I did not say much.

The people in my life who turned out to be anti-vaxxers were not really a surprise given what they had already revealed about their political and/or religious extremism or their apparent compulsion to believe every conspiracy theory that crossed their path. I was already avoiding them anyway since they are annoying and not at all good for my blood pressure. Or sanity.

The crazies are out there. Be careful. Woman accused of pulling gun on driver over pro-vaccine bumper stickerA New Mexico woman is accused of pulling a gun on another driver on Sunday because she was so enraged by the sight of his pro-vaccine bumper sticker, authorities said. On February 27, Christina Blair, of Albuquerque reportedly became triggered upon seeing the man's bumper sticker, which declared he had been vaccinated against COVID-19, and started honking her car horn, cursing at him and even throwing water bottles at the man's car while the two were stopped a red light, KTLA reported. The 33-year-old eventually followed the man into a Walgreens parking lot after he accidentally backed into her vehicle in an effort to get away from her, prompting Blair to pull out a handgun in a threatening way, according to police. The man, who was not named, said Blair 'racked the slide' of the gun, causing him to back away and call 911 'in fear that she was going to shoot him.' Blair has since been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Complete article here: Woman accused of pulling gun on driver over pro-vaccine bumper sticker

What would prompt a person to have a bumper sticker declaring you are vaccinated against COVID-19? When I got vaccinated, a bumper sticker was not on my mind.

People put all kinds of bumper stickers on the cars. Why does their reasoning matter. If you think it is stupid or annoying, you do what the rest of us do and judge the person for their bumper sticker and forget about it when you drive away from the other car. You do not pull a goddamn gun, follow them berate them, or any other type of confrontation. It does not matter what the person who put the sticker on their car motivation was.
ETA: there is no but. This is all on the person who pulled the gun. They escalated it into the situation it became.
