Texas governor Greg Abbot tested positive for the coronavirus. Maybe he shouldn't hang out with migrants! if he dies, who takes over? Dan Patrick the Lt Governor would become the new governor. And believe it or not, he's actually WORSE than Abbot. A shit ton worse than Abbot. He's the one who talked about letting the old folks die of Covid & how they'd be happy to die for the next generation. How they would even VOLUNTEER to die.

www.nytimes.com/2021/08/12/us/coronavirus-migrants-border-covid.htmlThis is from the NY Times. Granted it will not show the 80% number and will not admit covid is rampant among the migrants but does list the numbers of covid migrants coming over and it is nt a couple hundred people......... If everyone here is fine with covid coming in on the southern border, so be it. I am not. what makes you say that? do you know the claim is false? if so, would you mind editing the OP? DJ, you know facts no longer matter. It is all a matter of feelings. If they feel that 80% of those hospitalized with COVID are migrants(a highly unlikely scenario), they are.

But why are people having to ASK for it when you should have provided it to begin with?

Someone I love dearly lives in Texas. Just yesterday we were talking about how he comes into contact with “the public” at his job and not only do they insist on not wearing masks, they also insist on getting in his personal space. He was pretty agitated telling me about it and figures he’ll get fired soon because now he’s inclined to tell them to step THE FUCK back from him, instead of trying to be polite and business-like about it. There are a lot of Mexicans where he lives, but he did describe the mask-less, disrespectful people.
The people he was talking about, who insist on spreading their funky ass germs and refuse to at least step back to a safer distance when asked, were not Mexican. They were white. He said it. And I believe it.
I’m not a rocket surgeon, but I’m gonna take a wild guess and say that it’s likely that uncooperative Americans outnumber the number of people crossing our borders illegally and possibly contributing to the spread of COVID.
I mean, really?! All these STUPID ASS people living right here with us, born and bred, and now people want to blame Mexicans for the increases in COVID cases too? I swear ‘fore cheese and crackers!
It took me a minute to get this post together because some of the things I really want to say would get me banned.

You gotta remember, these are the same low information voters that believed Trump was going to build a wall and Mexico was going to pay for it. I worry they are going to choke on all the fresh produce these evil Mexicans pick for them while they keep harping that they are the root of all evil.

I do not consider the NYT to be a credible source for many of their outlandish articles the last four years. Your sarcasm meter is not catching my sarcasm as most here have posted the nyt for five years with links from tthe nyt accusing Trump of being a Russian puppet as well as peeing on prostitutes, etc. Lately I have seen Fox news even quoting the NYT as well as the Washington Post who have suddenly discovered Biden is not what they thought he was.

You still have not provided a source for your assertion that 80% of hospitalized patients are migrants

I think we all knew Biden was an imperfect candidate. But Americans were only given two choices - a two week old bowl of rice or a shit sandwich. I think it is a good sign that NYT and the WP are criticizing the establishment, no matter who is in charge. There is no perfect president and the withdrawal of Afghanistan was going to be a soup sandwich no matter what. Of course there was going to be harsh criticism.

I am not being sarcastic, VB. people are dying. I don't think it is funny. do you? PS- I asked for your citation. still have not seen it. RSVP. appreciated.
bolded @#2: the NYT didn't claim that Trump peed on prostitutes. I am not even sure they published the Steele Dossier. several other publications beat them to the punch, and they were left to report on the aftermath.
but even Steele never claimed that. he claimed that Trump OR people connected with him paid prostitutes to pee in the bed used by Obama. that doesn't sound particularly outrageous to me, though it does seem pretty childish. not sure why it is so hard for you to believe.
your last paragraph indicates that you now trust the NYT. do you?

Texas lt governor now blaming African Americans for low vaccination rate in Texas. I wish the republicans would get their stories straight. So hard to follow all these different explanations. Next thing you know, they will blame Muslims. Right out of the right wing play book

My half brother died 4 days ago in the Dallas area. I am not going to the funeral (I’ll attend tomorrow via zoom). It is absolutely nuts there right now. Most of the family are vaxed, but not all (one half sister is a holdout).
Trying to blame immigrants for what Texans are doing to themselves is just sleazy. The Texas Lt Gov is trying to blame African Americans for the surge. They refuse to implement the two most effective tools (masking and vaccination) and are trying to blame dark skinned people for their stubborn stupidity…

Not just those horrible south-of-the -border brown people spreading the virus if the booing is any indication. Those booing Trump supporters are probably taking the horse dewormer meds to protect themselves from the Covid viruses. Donald Trump booed at Alabama rally after encouraging his supporters to get vaccinated against COVID-19, video showsFormer President Donald Trump was booed by some of his supporters at a "Save America" rally in Cullman, Alabama, on Saturday night after he suggested that they get vaccinated against COVID-19. "I believe totally in your freedoms, I do, you've got to do what you've got to do," Trump said to the crowd. "But I recommend that you take the vaccines." The former president then told his supporters that the vaccines are "good" and once again encouraged them to get a shot. This suggestion was met with boos, as can be heard in a video shared by Vox journalist Aaron Rupar. Article here: link

I want to try to keep politics out of this if possible here Anyone following hospitalizations in the border towns on Texas/Mexico border? Some hospitals are 80% occupied with covid patients, but not with citizens. They have crossed over the border and our government releases them to the communities to deal with. Estimated 17,000 covid infections so far from the border crossers How is this different then back in the 1800's when the Army and traders traded infected Blankets with the Indians spreading Smallpox throughout the tribal lands? Can we not agree it is time to temporarily close the southern border due to pandemic conditions when we still do not allow travel from Europe or Canada to happen without these people proving they are not sick and spreading disease across the country? A simple response without politics, yes or no, would suffice to me. This is beyond political theatrics at this point, imo. But, but....Dan Patrick said it was African AMERICANS who were spreading the virus! In any case, it's nothing like the smallpox blankets. Was the smallpox vaccine available to the Indians? Did they refuse it because 'Muh rights! Nobody tells ME what to do! MAGA!'? Fewer than half of Texas is vaccinated. If people are too stupid to get vaccinated, whose fault is it? Close to 80% of Canadians are vaccinated, but it's nowhere near that in Texas. If people are too fucking stupid to get vaccinated, they shouldn't blame the immigrants.

People who are Black or Mexican do have a lower vaccination rate - so thay isn't an untrue statement. But, Texas's problems are far greater than racial or heritage statistics.

At this point, given the speed of the spread of the virus, and the rate of vaccination that is happening, these people will be prepared for the next wave. Unless the vaccines are paired with masks and social distancing, as tennesseer said, too little, too late.

And... Fact-checking claims that migrants on the Southern border are to blame for Covid surgeFacts First: Public health experts dispute the notion that migrants entering the southern border are largely responsible for exploding Covid cases across a large swath of the country. Instead, experts point to the more transmissible Delta variant and relatively low vaccination rates as primary causes of this latest wave. It's also worth noting that some of the Republicans blaming the surge on migrants have banned mask mandates and pushed back against policies requiring vaccines. Spread of Covid "To my knowledge there is no evidence that migrants are to blame for the spike in Florida or other southern states," Aubree Gordon, associate professor of epidemiology at the University of Michigan, told CNN. "We're having significant increases in transmission across many states likely due to the Delta variant." Regarding the surge, current US Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy echoed concerns about the Delta variant, saying near the end of July that "The thing that's making this possible is the fact that we are dealing with the most transmissible version of Covid-19 that we've seen to date."
