That’s a good conservative. Make fun of people with a serious medical problem and make light of this issue. Never care about something until it affects you. In addition, you sure know how to use your PhD in psych. You should know this, but I guess you do not care I was expounding on you astute observation that restricting access to a gun from people trying to kill themselves with one, will potentially reduce suicide. Do these brilliant deductions come about because of your highly educated mind ? Or like a good liberal, it is the correct thing to do because of your political position ? At least you know things and care deeply about everyone around you. Please let me know sooner on what I'm doing, thinking, and caring about. It will be much appreciated. I'm trying to conform to a higher, more acceptible standard. Data is hard, I know. I said nothing about restricting guns in these situations. I was making a statement of fact. Men use more lethal means to commit suicide, so they are more successful at it compared to women. Do you disagree with that fact. I like how you think you are so smart and want to get me to respond to you. You need to try harder. Just so you know, someone with real clinical experience(instead of just a PhD) would not make psychological diagnosis about people on the internet

Its just ignorance on your part that you're stating you are being diagnosed. It's the 'you knowing how I think' that makes me smile a bit. What am I thinking now ?

Trying to prove you are smarter than everyone else? You sure seem to have a need to bait me.

No, it was the outright lying again, you posting about restricting access to guns, then saying you didn't. Your reply #162 is where you posted that, the more recent reply #180 you say you didn't. Ass indeed. What am I thinking now ? Jealousy, insecurity, concern of intelligence, trying to prove, seem to have a need, baiting ? From what I'm simply observing, you don't have a stance on this and are merely crafting answers to the immediate post to stroke the ego. Now that's a free/remote diagnosis.

Maybe. Maybe not. I have trouble applying "makes sense" logic to a variety of tragically depressed people hitting a new low. I'm sure some think through all of the consequences. Others may think up to the point where their life ends, and never consider the aftermath. I understand there would be quibbles on degrees of planning which are going to vary. However, jumping off a high enough bridge will take a little more planning and time than just picking up a gun and killing yourself. Sure some people don't care about the aftermath or are in enough pain they don't even think about it. There are also people who tidy up their places before killing themselves because they do think about what people will think when they are dead. I would have cleaned my room, because my mother would have followed me into death to fuss at me forever. Can't a girl get some peace??!!

How can you claim it is a white male birthright when you also say gun violence is much more prevalent by black males? That sounds to me that it is a black male birthright more than a white male birthright. Not deflection at all. But when you claim the violence is due to white males and then admit it is the black males killing most with guns, well that’s just lunacy. If you solve white man rage you will have stopped .2% of the shootings. What about the rest? Or is it only the white lives you are concerned about? Because I personally am much more at risk of being killed by a white man in one of those .2% shootings. But to focus our energy there says you only care about saving the white lives lost to gun violence. I’m not sure why you keep stating that white male rage only accounts for 0.2 percent of deaths - that’s just mass murder deaths. See the big green piece of the pie - murder by other means? Wanna guess how many of those are an angry boyfriend or husband who killed his partner? Males killing their partners have become such a trite occurrence when a woman shows up dead, their partner is the primary suspect. Toxic masculinity spoils the party again. Yes, this applies to all races of men, but some of them are white. Because I was told several times that the point of this thread what the rage by white males that led to mass shootings. Therefore, I pointed out that this thread was about .2% of the shootings caused by white male rage (not even .2% because not every mass shooting was done by a white male).

The means of suicide are not interchangeable. Different methods have different "success rates". That is, if you truly care about suicide prevention, restricting access to firearms in suicidal people is potentially lifesaving. Absolutely. Restricting guns to all Americans because certain people are suicidal or homicidal is not ok.

To me it seemed like you were trying to make the point that white males are not the problem, black on black violence is. Gang violence statistics include gangs of all colors, and angry white men have a habit of killing their partners at an alarming rate. So I don’t think it’s useful to the conversation to try to argue black males are causing more murders than white ones. Why not just state that gang violence causes far more murders per year than mass murders do, but doesn’t get the attention it deserves? Because that is a tragedy. Unfortunately when a gang member kills another gang member, people figure that’s a consequence of the lifestyle they chose.

When a poster calls gun violence a white male rage issue, yes I point out that the black gun violence. I posted the stats. As a percentage of race, black males between the ages of 15-34 represent 2% of the population but commit 37% of the murders. There were more black murders than white, even though a much smaller % of the population. And plenty of non gang members are caught up in gang member shootings. The FBI stats didn’t break out “blacks that deserve to die because of lifestyle”. I didn’t bring race into this but I’m not going to stand by why the liberals place blame on one race while ignoring the others But I get it, no one cares about inner city crime because it won’t affect them. As a white person living in suburbia, I am much more at risk from a mass shooter than from a black male. As opti said several times, like her, I can avoid that situation by not going to the inner cities. And of course black males are given a pass in this thread by others because of slavery and racism. So again, black people aren’t held accountable and whites get the blame. Liberal logic 101

Every time this issue comes up, we go through the same dance. Democrats say we should do something, Republicans say we can’t do anything, then it devolves into the arguments over causes, crime, and deaths ace. We limp along until the next mass shooting, just to do it again. I guess the victims are just the price of “freedom”.
This is also a microcosm of where we are now. We have real issues that need to be solved. Real discussion and compromise will be neede. But we would rather have talking points, stoke the anger, and get nowhere

Simply the ignorance of the old adage, "we gotta do sumptin".
All technology comes with related deaths, which take the place of older technologies related deaths.
How many deaths related to smoking when the behavior didn't exist ?
Distracted driving deaths ?
That's ok, 'it's transportation'.
It's methodology of political parties.
On and on.
The control freaks vs the self responsible.
Time to jump into that padded room, it's safer.

Yet Colorado already has the proscribed extended background checks as offered as reason in this 'opinion piece'. Similar effectiveness for the whole country ? The Boulder shooter emigrated from Syria, didn't Biden just bomb Syria ? No possible connection there, it's inanimate objects poisoning our democracy. That piece was like Qnuts for the left.

The chance of me being killed by gang violence is effectively zero, despite the much greater number of incidents and overall deaths. Which should I be concerned by, comparatively? Which should you?

We have to eliminate the culture that it's ok to take away a persons right to defend themselves. Especially a selective picking of constitutional rights. The process is there to remove the 2nd amendment, it should be used. If it doesn't work, there is the obvious reason for that. The votes aren't there. Back to the Boulder shooting. Does anyone else find it interesting that the expanded background checks are in place and it did nothing to stop this person. Then there is the media omission of where this shooter originated, coupled with current bombings initiated by our commander and chief. Just trying to get a handle on why this person would commit a terrorist attack, and the subsequent knee jerk reaction of we need more gun control.

Fully agree repeal of the Second Amendment is what we need to do. Fully agree the votes aren't currently there. Is there any evidence of the Syrian connection. Sounds like pure speculation.

One of many. Just can't seem to get into Oprah's royals interview next thread down, so it's all I got for now. I keep seeing that meme in my head that showed Schumer and Pelosi running out of the House of Representatives with masks on, with a big box between them that said $1.9 trillion/9% Covid relief. Nancy's at the back pointing to the side saying "look drama with the royals" as they're running. As an aside, you can be put to death/life in prison for murdering ten people in Colorado can't you ? Like Colorado's expanded background checks, that didn't stop him either.

How did the main topic of this conversation get to be an "as an aside" after bashing the democrats over the stimulus bill and mentioning the royal family? I'm looking and I don't see how those topics fit in here. It didn't seem like the conversation morphed. It just jumped. Granted, my phone tends to put posts out of order and sometimes only shows me some posts, so I often lose the conversation. If we are going to derail this, maybe we should debate if we should abolish 2A or abolish the electoral college first. I have a favorite.

I said what I said in the order I put it in the post. Missed the part where you get to tell me the order of my sentences, lol. Just consider it like one of those hundreds of drop in Trump memes over the last 4 years in unrelated threads, then it will be ok. I'm all for an attempt at ending the Second Amendment, Electoral College. Let's get that process started ! That'll end the nonsense talk, we couldn't even ratify the ERA.

Both should go, as quickly as humanly possible. Says the guy who's state has voted in legalized open carry. The outnumbered usually squawk the loudest.

I'll try not to use sarcasm next time, it it could seem confusing to some. Given I know and Diogenes knows the gunman was originally from Syria, there is no media omission. There might be more drum banging on that point in RW media speculating on how that's connected to his actions. I think addressing the mass shooting problem is bigger than just gun control as correctly pointed out often these guns are legally obtained. I believe more teaching of emotion control might help and have the added benefit of reducing domestic violence and other shootings.

The gun man was picked on in high school and became paranoid about being stalked, according to those who knew him. Seems to be the standard background for most mass murderers. Diogenes is just falling for the usual far right knee jerk of blaming the browns. It’s easier then admitting it’s too damn easy for mentally unbalanced people to get assault weapons.

I always think it’s funny when the gun nuts start moaning about constitutional rights. The founding fathers purposefully created a means to edit that document. If we stuck just to the original document, we’d still have slaves and women couldn’t vote.
And I love that old line about assault weapons being necessary for self defense. Look at countries like Canada, New Zealand and Australia who imposed some form of gun control. If the gun nuts are right, those countries would be run by violent warlords and all the decent people would be dead. Yet look at their crime statistics.
I’ve been around a while. I’ve never met a single person who heroically pulled his assault weapon to mow down a pack of pirates or gangsters who were preparing to attack his house. Maybe I’ve always lived in boring places.

If you see pics pf him, he's really not brown. Bullying is creating some of these people. I won't blame them for cracking under the pressure. Damn, what the heck is going on. It feels like mass shooting season opened. On TV is about a mass shooting at an office building in CA.

You don't have a clue on what I'm 'falling for' other than your far left, knee jerk response to any speculation that doesn't follow the radical left agenda. It's too damn easy to push for blanket policy over the rights of 99.9% of the law abiding people who follow the law. This comes from decades of demonization of a tool by radical gun contol nuts and not paying attention to the bigger picture. (yeah, we both can do this) It's also easier than going back and noting just how many times I've posted that these mass shooters are mentally unbalanced. The basic logic of criminal behavior seems beyond a certain type, as if they can only view a mentally unbalanced person as being capable of only behaving at a reduced capacity. Mentally unbalanced does not include loss of IQ, they can be as cunning and smart as anyone else in achieving what they want. Gun laws only affect those willing to follow laws. This current Syrian wasn't concerned about murder laws, what makes you think he would follow a gun law.? Or is the right the own guns so ingrained as only being associated with criminals you can't think any differently..

I think it's funny when the gun control nuts start moaning about constitutional rights. There is a process already in place to remove those rights if the majority of the population wishes it. Lets get the process started on eliminating the second amendment. It will certainly end all the far left nonsense talk on this subject as the attempt would go nowhere. The simple and fair Equal Rights Amendment couldn't get ratified, back from 1970. I love that old line about the constitution can't be changed, it actually can. Right now going by NICS background checks, there are approximately 7 million new minority gun owners in urban areas since the last 6 months, I wonder why that is ? I see them as 7 million more nails in the coffin of 'gun control', as people in cities learn police aren't going to protect them as 'peaceful protesters' run wild. The constant caterwauling of this type of gun, and that type of gun, 'need', is all radical gun nut spinning, looking for some type of toe hold in a process they don't have a snowballs chance in hell of winning. I've been around for a while also.
