Got an email from Walgreens Pharmacy at 8 am that they had vaccine and were taking appointments. My wife signed up (getting it Friday) but couldn't sign me up. Tried to sign into my account but it didn't work. I always use hers so we don't get reward points in 2 accounts and remember having trouble with mine. We are in 1c, 65 and up. Their site has since crashed.

I had to setup an account for my mom, get it verified through an automated process, and then I was good to go. I actually preferred when Walgreens required you to login to each location to check appointments. At least at that point, you're only competing for an open slot with the people that are checking that location. Now, the system displays every appointment within 25 miles so you're competing with a lot of people at once.

Walgreens crashed on me all morning. It's back up now but it says I am not eligible for the vaccine.
I clicked on the link for my state and it says only people over age 65. That includes me. It gives me 3 questions to answer about which category I fit. It doesn't ask if I'm over 65 and I am not the other 3 things.
Will try again tomorrow.
I did find out my PCP has vaccinated their sickest patients and is now going by age, from the oldest down. I have no issues with that. I just wish they would publicize that instead of me having to ask my doctor during an appointment.

Just helped get my 7th and 8th senior citizen friends and family vaccine appointments. I lucked out on finding a local fb group that seems to find all the appt openings.
It's clear that StL city and county aren't receiving the correct proportion of the vaccine based on population and covid stats compared to the rural areas of Missouri. Dashboards back this up and it's starting to circulate in the paper. All of the appts I've found have been outside the county. Rep governor in control who got elected by rural folks.

Genevieve, Warren and Washington counties. With the state receiving about 93,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine a week, Region C should be getting more than 34,000 doses per week, Garza said. Instead, health care systems in the state’s most populous region are getting only about 15,600 doses per week.

CDC has now stated that fully vaccinated people do not need to quarantine after being exposed to covid. Seems like a pretty good indicator to me that they don't think those that are vaccinated will transmit the disease.
Not really any side effects from my 2nd dose except arm pain. I will say that I slept about 10 hours the night after my vaccination so it could have made me a bit more tired than the 1st dose.
Now I just have to wait for those antibodies to kick in. Pretty easy to do this week as we are having bad weather (well, bad for where I live) so I'll be hanging at home for a bit.
On a completely unrelated note, I ordered a pizza and the estimated arrival is 160-170 minutes. Well, I guess that is slightly related to my weather reference

Mom is getting her first dose today. She had been trying to get an appointment, even had an appointment at one time and when she showed up to the site no one was there. The local hospital called her yesterday and asked her if she wanted an appointment for today. She jumped at the chance. We don't know why they called, how she got on a list etc. but whatever. Now fingers crossed they are actually there when we show up.

My Dad is fully vaccinated- woo-hoo.
So, my two 80-something year old parents and my husband are done.
Next, my kids and then me. Everyone else isn't my problem.

I now have had the first shot.
I do feel bad for elderly people (and anyone) without computer access. There was an elderly woman picking up a prescription and she overheard people checking in for vaccines. She asked if she could make an appointment. Have to be made online. New appointments show up about 8 AM, she was told. I don't have a computer. Use your smart phone. I only have a landline. She asked to be put on a waiting list. We don't have a waiting list. Have a friend help you. I don't know anyone with a computer.
This is when I wish I lived in town because I would have helped her.

They also should quarantine if they show symptoms, the CDC said." How many people are going to skip the less than 3 months rule?

Or maybe she has treated people so badly, noone wants to help her. But she doesn't have any family with a computer, or a friend who has a family member that helps them out? She doesn't go to church, or belong to a book club, or have any human contact ever? She isn't a regular patient at a doctor who would probably loan her the front desk worker for 10 minutes to help? She doesn't get meals on wheels delivered or some other connection to a volunteer organization? Seems unlikely.

Finally got appointments for myself and husband. Different dates and in another county, hoping they don’t throw us out for wrong county NJ is a chaotic situation- no central sign up , and no information about how vaccines appointments are scheduled Within a huge group of 65+, 16-64 with medical conditions, smokers of all ages, grocery store workers, etc etc Need to go to the individual almost 200 sites to attempt signing up Disgraceful incompetence by our NJ government

That still seems like a lot of hoops to jump through, and it sounds like people here who managed to get an appointment had to haunt the websites in order to do so

This could be my mother if she didn't live with us and no dr office would let a non-employee use their computer. That's a definite no-go for patient privacy. Nope, gramma is very quiet and shy. A nice lady but doesn't know how to make friends. I'm the same way. It's amazing how many of the elderly fall into this category. I can think of 3 houses on my street alone where the elder could be in this position. Easily.

I didn't think a doctor would just have a non-computer literate person just come in and plop down behind the desk and start surfing the web on a system that has HIPAA protected data. But, some doctors would offer help, as a caring medical provider, to their older folks who are at risk, and lack other resources. But maybe there are no practices out there who care that much anymore.

Well, if we don't have protection for more than 3 months then we are in for a shit load of hurt here...I can see where we might need a booster at some point but we certainly can't get everyone vaccinated every 3 months. Seems too ridiculous to even think about.

But they could have one person spend all day every day helping this type of person navigate the system (social workers anyone?)? That money has to come from somewhere. The pandemic is exposing all sorts of issues with getting the vaccine, education, sign up for unemployment, elder care, etc. So many people are reliant on others, right now, for help and aid. So many people have to just step in and help as they can.

Why would she have a connection to a volunteer organization. She told him none of her friends have computers. You seem to be quite callous about the elderly and computer skills. Since she was picking up a prescription, she has a doctor and when that office gets to her, she will get her vaccines. This state doesn't expect to have a call in registry for at least a month.

This isn't happening just here. It's happening all over the country. Unless she takes the newspaper, she won't know in a month that there is a place where she can call.

I don’t think it’s callous. I think some of us forget that there are truly old people without family. I have a huge family (mom was one of 9) so the minute I learned our vaccinations opened up, I called each of my older relatives and got them scheduled. My husband and I have a lot of very close relatives 30 years younger than us (my daughter, his god daughter, nieces, cousins). We all look out for each other. I have no doubt if I were old that someone in my family would have made sure we got the vaccine. I feel bad foe those without families. And honestly, I had the time and would have helped anyone outside of the family. It’s connecting resources with need

Both DH and I had our second shot today. We're public school educators. DDIL & DS#1 had their second shots today also. She's a police officer, and he is a supervisor for DHS.

We did get Mom her first shot today but what an ordeal. They had probably 15-20 people scheduled every 15 minutes and they were running behind. We get Mom up there and they tell us to go back to our car for another 20 minutes. Then we were lined up outside in 34 degree weather and raining, with the windchill it was lower 20's . Her appointment was at 4:15 and she got her shot just before 5pm, then the mandatory 15 minute wait. They were real sticklers for the full 15 minutes too. She had a sticker with the time of her injection and you didn't leave until the full 15 minutes was up. Because this group seemed to be mostly elderly people everyone had a helper with them. I could tell Mom was completely worn out, she was getting confused and getting things mixed up. That happens when she is tired. Hopefully the weather is better in 4 weeks when she goes back. I'm still cold.

Its hard for people to be open about that but its the only way we are going to get through this (and everything else) together. Having a big family to help and support and that will do for you in the future is a wonderful thing. Some of us don't. Gramma only has me. Thankfully, I have four kids and all of those rugrats watch out for her (and DH and I) already. Its a family trait since they grew up watching us care for gramma. Sharon - I'm sorry that getting the vaccine was so hard on your mom! That is a rough thing for the elderly. I wish they would hold these in malls where the elderly can stay warm.

There are a lot of old people here in the same boat. Especially older women that have noone. Newspapers are expensive anymore and a lot don't take them. Lots of people don't go to church and then not much for them as their friends die off. Many have children that live away in these small towns. Many won't ask.
They were saying here even the highrises for the elderly and disabled had nothing organized for them, hope that has changed.
I dread dealing with all this as I age more and become less mentally agile.

Hubs is all worried about our kids getting our assets and wanting to sign stuff over. I said NO we are not. I saw what ex DIL did to my inlaws and I had tried to explain, you NEVER know what people will do when money is involved. I'm not concerned about son, he is to much like his dad. But if he was deceased that would go to his wife, she would go to an attorney and doubt would make sure we had money from it. I might be wrong but legally it would be hers.
If I'm dead and gone do what he wants, but like I told him there is no guarantee we won't live 15 more years and my goodness, we might have to spend all we have just to live. I expect inflation coming back into play, I'm seeing it now in our electric bill. All of our families have been long lived. I know his concern is dementia like his mom. I'm not concerned for me but I am for him. He said the state will drain it all, most likely. But we will still be allowed a house there are laws it can't be taken with a disabled person living in it. I believe you are allowed a car and $2000. The look back is 5 years.
He said yesterday, he could live in the trailer at his folks place and DD and I could take the motorhome and find a place around to live at Seattle as I want to be around grandson. He does make sense in that he can't go off and leave his mom. Like I said before she will "live" not live any quality of life but will exist likely to 100. She has had it for I would say 10 years. The nursing home folks said they think its getting a lot worse with her fighting. So how much longer she will have I don't know.
