We had to go to 2 PetSmart's today. At store #1 the staff wasn't wearing masks but most customers were. Store #2 the staff and customers were wearing masks.

linkCVS offering prizes for vaccinations: CVS said in a statement that in an effort to “provide a positive reminder of the activities that are possible once vaccinated,” it had joined with other companies to offer prizes to people who get a shot at one of its pharmacies. Among the incentives: Weeklong Norwegian Cruises, $100 dates sponsored by the dating app Hinge and a trip to Super Bowl LVI next year. CVS will give 125 people $500 and five people $5,000 to host family reunions. People 18 and older who “received a vaccination or certify that they’ve registered to receive a vaccination from CVS Health” are eligible for the sweepstakes, which runs from June 1 to July 10, the statement said. I feel so conflicted about this whole bribing people to get vaxxed scheme. On the one hand I think we need to do what it takes to get everybody we possibly can vaccinated. But on the other hand it feels outright obscene that we are willing to enter people into million dollar lotteries, or offer cruises, tickets, $$$ whatever just so they get vaccinated while there are BILLIONS of people out side of our borders who are desperately trying to get their hands on a vaccine. It is like we are forcing people to eat until they are so full that they throw up before we will consider sharing our food with those who are starving to death and not in the teenage male "I'm starving mode" either- just dying from the lack of food

I am vaccinated and wearing a mask when I go out in public. I will continue to do so because there were so many people around here refusing to get vaccinated, I don't trust those who are not wearing a mask to be telling the truth.

I have just a small lingering doubt on the issue of my becoming an asymptomatic carrier. My wife is a week away from her second shot. So until she is two weeks past that, I will mask up in public. After that, I will trust the vaccine to keep me safe from infection.

I'm one of the immunocompromised. So, despite been several weeks past my second shot, I'll be masking up for freaking ever it feels like.

I have been fully vaccinated since the beginning of February but I wear my mask whenever I go indoors around others. I want to encourage others to do so to help protect the staff and people who can’t get vaccinated (my kids, people with health issues, etc). It might be wishful thinking on my part but hopefully that will be part of the peer pressure to keep people masked. I think if everyone is wearing one and the anti maskers/anti vaccers aren’t, I hope they feel uncomfortable and it gives them second thoughts about it. I doubt it will for most but hopefully, it will got a few. Sadly, this whole thing has made me a lot less nice. I’m so over the ignorance and selfishness. I can’t wait for them y to o approve the vaccine for kids so I can get my littles protected. After that, if people choose not to get vaccinated fir ignorance or stupidity or selfishness, I say let them play roulette with the virus and good luck with that. I know it’s not nice but I am over all the stupid

As of today DS1 is fully vaxxed. His SO is 2 weeks behind him. They signed up 20minutes apart when their age group became eligible (S'pore) and that meant a 2 week delay for her) so limited supplies over there still, but they are getting there.
The only group they have a difficult time getting vaxxed over there are the elderly, less educated, segment of the population

I think we still need to be careful. The best estimate on the Indian (Delta) variant.... is that its transmission advantage is 40% Its now our dominant, increasing variant.... and our main vector is younger people and School age kids.......(Not usually badly effected but can get long covid and cause transmission) There are people in hospital who have been double vaccinated but the good news is that they are not getting as sick. The one they are worried about is from Nepal. Its got the advantage of the Delta variant but also has the vaccine overriding property of the SA variant. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-57373902Looks like masks and things are going to be around for a long time.

As of today I am fully vaccinated, no prizes or bribes dammit, but I'm still wearing a mask when indoors. People are stupid and I don't trust any of them.

I'm still masked when we shop and trying to distance from people but it's hard. Today at Ulta I was behind an unmasked woman who kept coming back toward me to grab more stuff off the shelf, and in front of a woman with a screaming, unmasked 3-year old who got so close the kid grabbed my husband's pants leg ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/angry2.png) . Our Ulta store sucks at the best of times but DH wanted to find a new cologne and they haven't invented smell-a-vision for online ordering.

At the Humane Society, they are requiring masks if you want to meet with an animal. The meet and greet rooms are quite small and a staff member starts with you.
They told me if a person won't wear a mask, no meet and greet and a meet and greet is a requirement to adopt, so it means no adopting

This weekend marked two weeks after my husband's second vaccination, so we have stopped wearing masks. The only times I plan to wear them now are if a business has a sign up requesting it, or if I go near people that are wearing them.
We went out on a date on Saturday night and then to mass and breakfast on Sunday morning without masks. The kitchen staff in the restaurants are all wearing masks, and families with little kids are wearing them, but adults and teens are almost universally unmasked in my area.

This area is strongly conservative and many adults still think covid is overblown or a hoax. About 30% of the local population is vaccinated and I don't expect to see the numbers increase much. However I am trusting the vaccines to do their job. I didn't catch covid when my husband had it, and that was before my second dose had time to be fully effective.

My son got the J&J vaccine this morning. He went with the one shot deal since he might be moving in the next month and just wanted it over with. Glad to finally have the whole family vaccinated.

More stupid politics around unmasking kids!
Last week, with the weather forecast of 90s this week, there was bunch of Republicans pushing for a removal of mask requirements for school kids. Late Friday there was a surprise announcement that the state was lifting it. News was all over it, mask malcontents were cheering, but it was so late that schools were blindsided. Late Sunday, we get a robocall from the school superintendent - the state had reversed its position, so masks still required, for now!
You see, the state health czar had actually released the letter he'd written to the CDC stating that the state was intending to lift the school mask mandate because <reasons>, and did the CDC have any compelling reasons NOT to proceed? No CDC answer/approval by Sunday, so backpedaling commenced, and flowed down to the school districts and schools, who ultimately had to break the bad news to those who apparently want their kids exposed.
There's 2 weeks, roughly, of school left - they should never have made a move to change ANYTHING at this point. Caving to loudmouths was stupid to begin with, but having to backpedal and anger them once again was worse.

The Delta variant is getting attention in the US too where it is the fastest-growing variant; still only a variant of interest according to the CDC. Dr. Eric Ding Twitter Thread
ETA: The CDC has three classes of SARS-CoV-2 variants: Variant of interest, variant of concern, and variant of high consequence.

Caving to loudmouths was stupid to begin with, but having to backpedal and anger them once again was worse. With two weeks left of school in Iowa, the Iowa governor decreed that schools could no longer require masks. One of many reasons she is known as #CovidKim There's a group agitating - Unmask Our Kids. Probably the same group that sued some school districts to open 5 days a week. They ultimately won the lawsuit, but it's so late in the school year that it's challenging for the districts involved to pivot back to 5 day in person RN, so everyone is frustrated. They aren't accomplishing anything productive, and are causing lots of disruption and angst, and it's all couched as "but think of the poor children!" when it's really trying to get back at the governor (and political party they hate, now in charge in all three branches of state government). The poor children's education has whipsawed back and forth so much with surprise reversals in rules, all due to political tug-of-war. Cuomo should have just held firm on the rules until the school year ended. Period. Change at this point is more disruptive, even if "good" change (and that's questionable, since kids under 12 still can't be vaccinated). That's the big lesson we learned last spring - make a plan, explain the new rules, stick to the plan. Last spring no one had a plan, and the rules kept changing. Schools made the best plans they could over the summer, We got over the new rules learning curve in the fall, new normal settled in, and then ... this spring agitators started rocking the boat, and the rules began changing again. And things went wrong, and rules changed, again. And again. And no one's happy - those that want things to stay safe for kids (and as constant as possible) keep getting thrown under the bus, while those who just want things to return to old normal never get everything they want lifted (more often it's: state's lifting this rule, but then has to reimpose it, or it has so many fine print exceptions there's no actual change).

You at least had rules to reimpose.
The Governor also required schools to have some in person time this past school year or lose their funding. When the legislature met starting in January, their first bill was to require all schools to be open in person full time.
There never was a statewide mandate for school kids to wear masks. It was up to the districts.

I just read this county leads the nation in counties with populations greater than 300,000 in percentage of residents 12 and older who have been vaccinated.

So we have had a little setback in my family. DS1 fiancee had a negative reaction to her first Pfizer dose. She will not be getting #2. I am not sure what else is available for her as I don't believe the more traditional vaccines (AstraZeneca and J&J) are approved for use in Singapore.
