☝this. too many people equate any adverse reaction (at the risk of using a specific pharma term) as an allergy. both of the places I got my doses were easygoing enough to let anyone that thought they needed 30min to stay. Just an update (and my reasoning about the 30 minute thing). She's a complicated person. It wasn't so much about her worry before the getting the shot as her response to people who DIDN"T stay the full 30 minutes (as per the "rule" she had in her head). My problem was with the "rule" she had in her head. She's all about following the rules and making other people follow them as well. If she heard she should wait 30 that means EVERYONE should stay for 30 minutes (but probably won't). Which then leads her to think that people who are released after 15 or 20 minutes have done it wrong (and that perhaps they are endangering other people or themselves). She's complicated that way. As it was - I wasn't able to go with her to vaccination event. She needed to be back home by 9:30am (her appt was at 9am. I was staying behind to be at her house at 9:30 (for a delivery of stuff). I did get her out the door a little early 8:30am (she didn't want to go early because she was suppose to get there 15 minutes before her appt.) I mentioned it probably didn't matter what time her appt was - they weren't going to make her wait until 9am to get the shot if she was there early. She got there 20 minutes before her appt - and she said she got the shot about 10 minutes after she "checked in" - so well before 9am. She was home by 9:20am (they kept her 15 minutes after the shot .) And the Delivery truck showed up at 9:40am. It all worked out. She was in good spirits when she got home. When she got there she saw that it was a "conveyer belt" thing - in that you queued up when you arrived and just moved thru all the stations - you just had to have your name on their list as having made an appt. She got the Moderna vaccine and she's got her second shot appt in 4 weeks. I am not judging you or her, I can be a real rule follower myself sometimes, but my Dad was Bi-Polar, and when he was in a bi-Polar high, he tended to fixate on rules, and was likely to fixate on others needing to follow the rules. When he was well and his Meds were adjusted correctly he was pretty Chill. I wonder if your friend has some mental health issues.

I'm glad I went to church for the first time BEFORE the mask rules got relaxed. Everyone wore them then. This Sunday, confusion reigned. The diocese said people could remove them at times (not moving around, no one nearby, etc). The church bulletin codified that to: wear a mask when coming in, going out, going to Communion. Can remove after the opening hymn (yeah, we are singing - the diocese rules seemed to say singing was still off-limits). But in practice, people walked in w/o masks, and put them on for Communion, or followed rules to the letter (whipping mask off after opening hymn), or just chin masked. Coworker was talking about how many people are going w/o masks now in public, and how confusing it is. We want to keep wearing masks, but are suddenly self-conscious - do other people think we are wearing masks because we aren't vaccinated? When in reality, we don't trust that THEY are really vaccinated. ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/tinfoil.gif)

I was talking to DH about it and we agreed we are tired of spending so much time in other people's heads. I live in Trumplandia so it isn't like wearing a mask wasn't already a source of ridicule/scorn and most of the city never bothered to wear them from day one.
At some point I am going to have to trust the vaccine works and move on with my life. I can't be afraid of the rando in the grocery store forever.
My goodwill towards humanity is completely spent. Don't get me wrong I am not going to turn into a maskhole, if a business still wants me to wear it I will wear it. I don't care if other people continue to wear their masks for however long they feel they need to. I am done with what other people think of me personally. If you want to think I am Trump asshole because I am unmasked go ahead. If you want to think I am paranoid because I still wear one go ahead. I'm out of f*cks to give.
And as far as vaccination if you are choosing not to get one at this point then nature will take it's course. We have an overabundance of J&J and Moderna in our county right now, every grocery store offers one, every pharmacy offers one all walk in appointments. If you're still not getting it barring a potential medical concern or are too young to get it then that's on you. Just as you have a right not to vaccinate I get to have the right for my life to go back to normal and not have to protect you anymore.

Even then, we enter and leave with our masks, and wear them if leaving our table to use the restroom. My body, my life, my choice. Those who aren't comfortable being around me and my mask can find their own solution. Getting up in my face would not be a wise choice.

We are going back to restrictions because of the surge in the Indian variant. We have done everything we have been asked to do, my family and myself are fully vaccinated and tested regularly and there are still people in our area swanning around without masks and encouraging everyone they meet to not take the vaccine. Hence the surge. "I'm out of f*cks to give." ... Thats a great phrase and sums it up nicely.

One article said one woman had twice the usual viral load of Covid, but was mostly asymptomatic. On the good news side, I think the average age on the breakthrough deaths is 82.

Not being snarky, and I totally understand and value what you are saying. I work hard every day to separate the numbers from the faces they represent. Life is fragile at all times; DH's second cousin died this month at the age of 50 from a brain injury resulting from a fall on a sidewalk at her apartment complex.

Maybe the numbers are being underreported... so? According to these numbers, the vaccinations are 99.99% effective. If only 1 in 10 people report (or 102,620 people), that means the vaccinations are 99.9% effective. If 1 in 100 people reported, that is 98.98% effective. Significantly higher than the reported 94-95% reported for Moderna or Pfizer (or 72% effectiveness rate for J&J). Wearing a seat belt reduces death in a vehicle crash 70-80% of the time ( link); I am still going to wear mine on my way home tonight. If people/media focus on the negative-side of the numbers, it continues to give others excuses to not get vaccinated.

Yeah I know no number really sounds good, but if the average was 45 lets say, you'd probably feel anyone is at risk. Sorry to hear about the second cousin. I fell on my complex's sidewalk just recently as well. Luckily it was not a hard hit on my forehead and the evidence is almost all healed. I am not surprised at all it could go that badly. Condolences on your loss.

Found out today we’re heading back to the office the first full week of June. Should be interesting, fully vaccinated staff have no restrictions, un-vaccinated have to mask and socially distance.
Reminds me of the “star bellied sneetches” from Dr Seuss fame. How will we know who’s “genuine” and who’s “fake”

My company won't allow us to remove masks or give up social distancing unless we are all vaccinated. To prevent those kinds of questions/issues. Once everyone can prove they are vaccinated, we can remove our masks.

Where I work, I am considered an Essential Worker, so I haven't had to work at home. Corporate allows groups to meet in rooms and be unmasked if everyone is vaccinated," but there is no way the site can actually audit this. (Rumored that this was put in place so that the Corporate people can be in their offices without wearing masks.) The official site policy is to wear masks at all times except eating and drinking, but there is talk of removing this policy "soon."

This week we were notified that fully vaxed people no longer have to wear masks, unless someone requests it for some reason. We have a "safety culture", so I think people will mostly be honest about it, for fear of repercussions. Only about 46% are fully vaxed as of now, as it is the middle of Devos country. Back to the office date is set for July 1, with ongoing remote work possible. I wanted to remote work 4 out of 5 days, but looks like it will be more like 2-3 days. I'm so bummed. The party is over, if you call the party super relaxed and chill.

Again, for all of you who do not understand HIPAA. It applies to physicians, healthcare workers, hospitals, and other covered entities such as insurance companies and DME companies. If you have health information on someone, not obtained in a way covered above you can print it on the front page of the newspaper. Your employer can request information from you, subject to privacy laws. They also have an obligation to provide a safe workplace, as defined by OSHA. It will be interesting to see if any complaints will be made to them if someone can prove they got sick at work from an unvaccinated employee if they do nothing about preventing Covid infections. So HIPAA offers no privacy protection outside of healthcare related industries

Our company is dropping the mask rule as of June 1st and it's all on the honor system. I'm going to assume that means everyone will suddenly be vaccinated and there will be no masks. Our county is at 60% of adults and I'm guessing our work is higher because they gave a financial incentive, organized the appointments and gave employees time off to get the shots and to recover from them if necessary. I wouldn't be surprised if it's over 80%.

HIPPA does not apply in this case. I mean, you have to sign an exemption or show proof of shots to register your kid for school and college. This is no different.

For now I will be wearing my mask inside. Outdoors I'll evaluate based on how crowded, etc. Supposedly 50% of my county has had at least one dose. The other 50% is in no way entirely composed of kids. I do not expect the unvaccinated to wear their masks indoors. I expect they will lie about their status. So to protect me and my family, I'm going to leave the mask on for now. I'd like to get my asthma doctor's take on it for me personally based on my issues. My next appointment isn't until late June. Have you found that the mask requirement helped your chronic infections/allergies? I know that since most of us have not been as exposed this past year, your chances of picking up something are less, but have they helped you any? Anecdotal, but my 8yo/3rd grader has been fully in person since the end of September. This year he got strep throat once, and nothing else, not even a cold. In previous years he has had strep, influenza, stomach virus and colds.

So far I only have one person complaining about the mask requirement for those not fully vaccinated.

We went from a state that was lockdown central to the Midwest (a lot of “I’m going to wait to get the vaccine”). The kids were in daycare for 2 weeks and my son started getting virus symptoms. I got him a covid rapid test, was negative. 9 hours later, the new daycare emails us that they are shutting down for 10 days since one of the employees has covid 😳. A few days later (during quarantine), my daughter starts having symptoms. A few days later, I start (runny nose, cough, etc). We all get tested (this puts us at 7 days post exposure) and are negative (2 rapid tests, 1 pcr send out). Since then, the kids have had the cold symptoms and cough that just lingers.normally, it wouldn’t phase me. With covid though, gotta worry about the cough

I had my first objection to our "everybody still wears a mask" rule at work. A regular walked in and all around, but when she approached my desk I offered to give her a mask. Oh, do I need to wear one of those? Yes - everyone does, for the sake of the children who are also our patrons. Well then! And she walked out w/o asking me her question. Director and I just looked at one another, and said, oh well... ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/idunno.gif) Another guy came in to read the newspaper sans mask, director spotted it and gave him one. He wore it, but stupidly, under his nose. He also left both front doors open (inner and outer). Don't you know how to close a door, dude? I'm used to little kids doing that, but adults? I think people going out w/o a mask at all, because they are DONE with masks, is going to become an increasing problem for us. Most if not all retail stores, etc, have chosen to allow some to go w/o masks on the honor system. So those DONE with masks think EVERYONE allows it. Nope, we don't. The CDC, and the state, created a free-for-all the way they announced they were lifting the mask regulations. People only hear the parts they WANT to hear.

I know that since most of us have not been as exposed this past year, your chances of picking up something are less, but have they helped you any? Anecdotal, but my 8yo/3rd grader has been fully in person since the end of September. This year he got strep throat once, and nothing else, not even a cold. In previous years he has had strep, influenza, stomach virus and colds. also anecdotal, I have sniffles all winter normally, and catch a bug that knocks me on my ass for a couple days at least once a year. during the 9mo I took public transportation to work just prior to COVID, I was that much worse. since I started WFH and masking, I've really only had the seasonal allergies to worry about. and even those haven't been awful until this past couple weeks with the pollen tumbleweeds.

As I head to the land of the unvaccinated and anti-mask people, I can assure my mask will be on. I am meeting one cousin who is fully vaccinated. The rest of them, I won't see unless I happen to run in to them.

I just read about some dude who proclaimed that the mass shootings are a result of the covid vaccine. ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/facepalm.gif) It was so stupid that I closed the article and now can't remember where I saw it. No matter. Some things are simply not worth repeating.

I had a lady that came to my house to measure blinds, mask in hand. She said that she had all her shots, but I said we'll both wear a mask anyways. She then walks in carrying her mask and I say "You gonna put the mask on?" and she's like "Oh, do you want me too?"
I do wish that they would've just kept the mask requirements in place until the kids could get vaccinated. My oldest is about a week away from getting his 2nd shot, but I still have 2 that don't qualify yet.
