People in my area will not stay home from work if they are not getting paid.
My dad hated going to the doctor because of all the sick people in the waiting room. He wouldn't touch anything in the waiting room and usually stood until he was called back. If someone started hacking, he moved.
That clinic now has a separate waiting room for people coming for well patient visits.
They also made their one large waiting room in to separate rooms for different departments.

As I am part of an HMO most visits, including for vaccinations, are in the hospital. I had my first Shingrix shot yesterday and saw that the vast majority of people were masked even in the Outdoor parking area were masked. Indoors I saw just one human being who was unmasked - that little one looked like s/he was less than one month old. Mom was carrying the baby and dad walked right next to her glaring (while looking very proud) and daring anyone to get too close for comfort. It was very cute

DS & I both got the new version of the Pfizer vaccine today. Hurt just a bit more going in than the last 3, but so far I haven't gotten quite the stiff arm like in the past. I'll know more by tomorrow. Hoping I can skip the queasy feeling this time, but I've got chicken noodle soup, crackers and ginger ale just in case.

Seems we might be transitioning to wear a mask if you have an URI or are very vulnerable. More like Asians which is good. Also people will (?) stay home when sick so less likely to spread illness However if Covid continues to be asymptomatic in many then people will still pick it up Wondering if ‘regular’ flu also has asymptomatic cases in same proportion as Covid? Just don’t test as much so don’t know if you have it I'm wondering if it is a good thing to continue wearing masks outside of preventing the spread of covid. I read something on the BBC a few weeks ago about the sudden increase of liver problems in young children and the working theory is they were not exposed to enough germs so their immune systems didn't develop enough protection. I also read that during the Spanish flu, the victims were disproportionately young because a similar (but less deadly) strain had passed through the older population years earlier so they developed a form of immunity. I don't know what the answer is, of course, but I worry that preventing minor illnesses may leave us vulnerable to major illnesses because our immune system won't recognize the 'enemy'. Clearly I'm not a scientist...

Clearly I'm not a scientist... You can’t exactly attribute this to masks, but that everything was shut down for so long. With schools closed, normal colds that kids would normally have didn’t happen. Not sure how this would affect the liver though. People have been trying to prevent illness for decades. The advent of soaps and detergents that contain bactericidal agents can be blamed for this. There was a time where it was impossible to buy anything without. I had an immunologist at a research meeting tell me that kids used to eat a peck of dirt while they were out playing. I remember getting filthy while out playing. That doesn’t happen so much anymore.

Ugh! Why is it us women always have to be sure our husbands are taking care of themselves? Usually DH can mostly be relied on to schedule his own dentist & doctor appointments, but when I was putting away DS's & my Covid cards yesterday, I glanced at DH's card, and noticed there were only 2 vaccinations listed on it. When I talked to him, I found out he'd never scheduled his 3rd shot, so last night I MADE him (I know, so mean...) schedule the appointment, so he got vaccination #3 today. Men!

By the way, neither DS nor I got queasy from the new version of the Pfizer vaccine, which was a nice change. I DID have a sore arm when I went to bed the night I got my shot, but other than that, I woke up just fine the next day.

We only wear masks when required to, which is doctors and dentists offices. The patient removes the mask when needed for the dentist and hygienist to do their business. My eye doctor’s office recently reinstating wearing them too.
When I’m out in stores, majority aren’t wearing masks. Doesn’t bother me. Everyone will do what they are comfortable with. 🤷♀️

We had been giving away free covid test kits at the library. The first batch we got from the county was 50 - we could have as many as we wanted, but had no idea of demand. When those were gone, we upped our request to 90 (a boxful). That same week, the village fire department helpfully gave us another box of 90! Those are now gone, too. We decided to just get the next batch thru the fire department (instead of driving halfway across the county to the central distribution point), as long as they were willing to do the legwork for us. Turns out, the county/state is done - no more covid test kits for the public. I've had patrons looking for tests. Also just learned the pres of the Friends group has covid now. Covid is not done!!! Learned today that another of the Friends is recovering from Covid - she's also the Village Historian. No idea where she was exposed - both of them missed the recent Friends' meeting due to having Covid, so it wasn't that common link that did it! She's supposed to run a basket making class next week. Ironically, her basket making class was the first program we had to cancel back when everything shut down in March 2020. We only just rescheduled it late this summer. This is to be a second in the series.

We were scheduled to get the new bivalent boosters on Saturday ... long story short our local nurse offered to vaccinate us on Thursday. DD will be here for 48 hours, so I asked if we could get vaccinated on Friday instead, and we could!
I cancelled our original Sat appointments yesterday (we use an online medical scheduling platform here.) I have NO WORRIES about them getting taken! I know we made 2 people VERY happy!
(The nurse's office is closer than the doctor's office, there's less wait, and this way we have the whole weekend to recuperate if we have a reaction.)

I'm happy I found a couple of the KN95 masks which I want to use for church or crowded grocery store shops. I forgot how warm wearing a mask can be until I wore one through an entire church service. (Church is small with lots of members 60 to 90.)

Do we know what the recommendations are for people who have had a mild case of covid with no treatment done and the new vaccines?
Do they still have to wait for 3 months or can the new vaccine be taken anytime?

From CDC: "If you recently had COVID-19, you may consider delaying your next vaccine dose (primary dose or booster) by 3 months from when your symptoms started, you first received a positive test if you had no symptoms" Then it says that "People who have COVID-19 and are in isolation, should wait to get vaccinated until: Symptoms are gone (if you had symptoms) and Your isolation guidelines have been met." So, it looks like it could be 10 days or 3 months

DH and I are both boosted with the bivalent vaccine as of 6pm this evening! I'm so relieved!!! The nurse told us that she's having a hard time getting rid of the vaccines she got. She said most people are "over it". She asked me who told me I "had to" get the vaccine ... I said, um, common sense?! I work in two universities and routinely see 40-80 university students/per day ... if that's not a good reason to get it, I don't know what is. Not to mention the teachers who bring it into the staff room! But hearing her fears about not getting rid of the vaccines she ordered was disheartening. I'm also very happy because we got the Pfizer, which is the latest bivalent vaccine here. We both took paracetamol and loaded up on frozen food, just in case LOL. Work is hellish these days so I'm happy for an excuse to stay home and watch Netflix this weekend.

I need to schedule DH and me for the bivalent booster now that our brief trip is behind us. Didn't want to be feeling rough for any time before that ended. DH did get his flu shot. I need both.

Got my new booster on Monday. Would have been fine waiting a couple of weeks but didn't want to risk having a suddenly-increased demand making me wait longer. I'm going back to Florida in a month so wanted to make sure it was done well before then.

Last week I went with my two granddaughters to Chicago. They're 5 and 8, neither is vaccinated but DS and DDIL are. The family has had COVID twice- mild, thank God. So, the dilemma- do we take the subway or Uber into the city from our airport hotel? It wasn't just money- heck, it was a drop in the bucket compared to the total cost of the trip- but sitting in traffic is boring and the older one LOVED the subway/bus combination on our last trip 3 years ago. So- we went with the subway. We put on the masks when the subway car started filling up with passengers. That was almost a week ago now and I'm happy to say we're fine. The older one told me that COVID is dangerous only for older people. I pointed out that I fit into that category and so did their other grandmother. Both of us are vaccinated, of course. I told them I respected their parents' decisions but if they were MY kids they'd be vaccinated.

Hubs, DD, and I had vaccine number 5 when it first came out. We are current on pneumonia but got DD the newest one. She also finally got shingles shoots, that worried me as I saw mom get it and it was awful.
DD's eye appt went well, no damage from diabetes, eyes look good, no need to go back unless they don't get dilated by optometrists. She is however, extremely far sighted. They had indicated they couldn't dilate her before, well, no issue this time.
Talked to son, grandson is doing good. Since he is in a bilingual home they checked his english vocabulary. I knew it would be good, he checked out 5th grade level, in fact 5.6 score. He has a really good one but son and I do too. Now hand writing or printing is another story, it is bad, so is sons. So they are sending him to a writing class twice a week, I hope it helps him.
He, his mom, aunt, uncle, and another couple went walking in a gorgeous park area over the weekend. The pictures are just beyond beautiful. Son said he is glad he didn't go as they walked and walked and he said that would have got him.
He had a job offer come in to go to Ukraine in a liaison position for 36 months. I said how much money, he said the same he is making now, so nope.

I'll spare you the details.

My mom got Pfizer #4 mid September. She tested positive yesterday. So far she said she's had worse sinus infections. I hope it stays that way. She's an OR nurse. It is kind of surprising she didn't get it before now. Most of the entire surgical team at her hospital got it at some point.
She's going back next Monday.

The entire team my niece works with has had Covid previously. Their patients were exposing them early on. Test results for emergency surgery were not getting back in time before surgery had to start. That was in the days of mostly doing only emergency surgeries.
