I got DS & I scheduled for our 3rd shot. Unfortunately, with all of the school kids now eligible, the wait is a bit longer than I'd like. We ARE on the cancellation list (we get a spot if someone else cancels), but we couldn't get scheduled until the end of January. Obviously, I'd prefer sooner, but we'll take it when we can get it.

Are you seeing long lines at the pharmacies where they administer vaccine? Or at the community sites? I know that it varies by place but I keep hearing about people just walking in the grocery store (including Costco and Sam's) and checking at the pharmacy or their little clinic, and even though it says online that none of the appointments are available, they will give people the shot if they're not busy at the moment.

I actually have a doctor's appointment next week, and am going to get her opinion on if I need Pfizer for my 3rd shot, or if switching up would be more beneficial. If I can, or should switch, then that gives me more options.

Well, I WAS going to visit DS and DDIL the weekend after next. But now DDIL has COVID. Like DS, she's vaccinated and her symptoms are mild. DS and the 7-year old are pretty much back to normal although DS' sense of smell isn't quite back yet.
Sigh. MAYBE Christmas.

I volunteered a couple of hours today at a Christmas toy drive. The organizer was required by her employer to be masked, I was masked, and a family of 4 volunteers was masked. That family was Jewish and the daughter told me they wore masks to respect Creation around them, and volunteered at a Christmas event to respect the gift of Creation in children. This just might be the best part of my 2021 Christmas.

If I can, or should switch, then that gives me more options. I scheduled my booster for Dec 20, and decided to do Pfizer on this one. My first 2 were Moderna. Like you, I wonder if there's anything good (or bad) with changing it up, but I suppose I could go with Moderna when I got there if I heard that it was bad to do a different one.

We've just ordered a load of vaccine for 22 and 23
so I'm guessing they are preparing for the long haul.
I think using a different vaccine for your booster is a bit like hedging your bets ... Most people seem to be doing it this way.
They ultimately all give antibodies but in slightly different ways.
I have been in contact with a lot of Covid and two AZs and a Moderna have kept me clear..... plus a visor, mask and santiser, of course.

I keep hearing this about my huge Walmart. I might wander over this weekend to see how much truth is in the rumor. I can't find an appointment for weeks, unless I want to drive halfway across the state. apparently Cape Cod still isn't stocking Moderna, and unless my Dr is giving me the shot or I'm in an actual medical office, I'm not chancing Pfizer.

I went in Walgreens a month at lunch time. I wanted my flu shot before they ran out of the egg free version. There were no vaccine patients when I got there and they gave me the vaccine. Appointments were two weeks out and I didn't want to risk them running out.

I'd jokingly spout off about Moderna being a MA company and logistics shouldnt be all that difficult for getting it to us. but idk where its last release location is, and the joke falls flat. 🤷♀️. I do know at least one of their CMOs for processing DP, because it's also one of mine. my product has gotten bumped enough that I have only seen two DP lots of my stuff in the last year since I took over managing the product. that's good, for vax production... I'm just whining. I want the booster, I just can't find one. 😔

Like you, I wonder if there's anything good (or bad) with changing it up, but I suppose I could go with Moderna when I got there if I heard that it was bad to do a different one.I went in for my booster a month ago. When I made the phone call to set up the appointment, they asked which I wanted. I said I would like to talk to someone when I got there. When I arrived, I told the charge nurse that I had the Pfizer series originally but wanted to have Moderna for the booster because it was not only a different vaccine but a higher dosage, and asked if there were any contraindications for mixing the two? She told me that she wasn't allowed to give me any advice on which to take, but that she had done the exact same thing for herself in getting Moderna after the Pfizer series. I obviously took that as confirmation that my idea was sound. Going the other way is a little less obvious. Yes, it may have a benefit to have a different vaccine this time, but the half-dose Moderna booster is still stronger than the full-dose Pfizer booster. I would check with someone before getting the shot if I were you.

We're still being given the choice here of Moderna or Pfizer. It probably doesn't hurt that the clinic we normally go to is a part of a large affiliation of clinics. It's just the wait is a bit longer than I'd prefer.

I snagged an appointment for next Friday (wanted the weekend in case I have any issues) for the Moderna booster. My 2nd Pfizer shot was 8 months ago, and I am 3 months post-Covid.

Not liking this: Scientists in South Africa say omicron is at least three times more likely to cause reinfection than previous variants such as beta and delta, according to a preliminary study published Thursday.
Statistical analysis of some 2.8 million positive coronavirus samples in South Africa, 35,670 of which were suspected to be reinfections, led researchers to conclude that the omicron mutation has a "substantial ability to evade immunity from prior infection."link

Or this: The “highly transmissible” Omicron variant of coronavirus ripping through South Africa is putting disproportionately large numbers of children under the age of 5 years old in hospitals, a top South African government medical adviser said Friday.
In a worrying virtual press conference, government adviser Waasila Jassat, speaking about the worst-affected area of Gauteng province that contains the city of Johannesburg, said: “It’s clear in Gauteng, the week-on-week increase we’re seeing in cases and admissions is higher than we’ve seen it before. We’ve seen quite a sharp increase [in hospital admissions] across all age groups but particularly in the under 5s.”
She added: “The incidence in those under 5 is now second highest, second only to those over 60. The trend that we’re seeing now, that is different to what we’ve seen before, is a particular increase in hospital admissions in children under 5 years.
“We’ve always seen children not being very heavily affected by the COVID epidemic in the past, not having many admissions. In the third wave, we saw more admissions in young children under 5 and in teenagers, 15-19, and now, at the start of this fourth wave, we have seen quite a sharp increase across all age groups, but particularly in the under 5s.”
Jassat produced graphs that clearly showed how children under 5 years old are now being hospitalized at an alarming rate. link

That most children didn’t get Covid was one small area of hope in this epidemic. Very sad that the littles are becoming ill with omicron

My friend is vaccinated and tested positive. She was sick 3 days and said it was the most horrible 3 days of her life. I am so happy she was vaxxed because I believe that it would have been worse if she were unvaccinated. I don’t know if the symptoms would have been worse, or just lasted longer, which takes a toll on the body. Her parents, sister and husband are super conservative, but my friend and her super-conservative husband believed in the vaccine from the start. And I am so glad.

DH and I rather impulsively decided to attend one of those no appointment required community vaccination events to get our boosters. They were at least 50 people ahead of me in line and within 20 minutes, I was getting my shot.
The county health department has been having these events several times a week at school’s all over the county. I love living in a place where the government actually works. I don’t even want to ask if my step brother in Massachusetts managed to get himself and my parents their boosters. They make it so hard to get vaccinated out there.

I had to cancel her next vaccine appointment because she was just in no condition to ride out another vaccine. She’s probably not gonna get her second shot until after the holidays. I don’t have the same flexibility scheduling her vaccines as I do with the rest of the family, since her vaccinations have to be done at the hospital due to her history with other vaccines.

I'm sure every area has their challenges and plusses. I got my booster from the county health department and it went pretty smooth. Hopefully by now local pharmacies have been given booster doses.

Vaccination done in pharmacies. Make an appointment online. My son came home for Thanksgiving and got an appointment within 24 hours. We have one of the highest vaccination rates in the nation. Massachusetts is also in the top 5. How is it that Utah is so much lower, yet you are congratulating yourself for living somewhere where the government works?

You have to make a distinction between the availability of the vaccines for those who want them and the willingness of people to get them. They're two separate issues. There's no excuse for lack of availability anywhere these days, but there are some people who wouldn't get vaccinated even if you showed up at their door with a dose, and Utah may have a higher % of them.

Small town helps too. My son lives in Minneapolis and even though they have a higher vaccination rate in that county, it's a PIA to get in for one anywhere and hospitals and clinics are overwhelmed. He came home over Thanksgiving and walked into a CVS and got a booster with no waiting.
