DOJ secures longest sentence yet for convicted Jan. 6 defendantThe Department of Justice secured its most severe sentence for a convicted Jan. 6 defendant yet -- a marked victory for the government as it pursues those accused of attempting an insurrection. Peter Schwartz, whom prosecutors termed "one of the most violent and aggressive participants" in the Jan. 6 riot, was sentenced to 14 years behind bars and 36 months of probation in a decision announced by Judge Amit Mehta on Friday. Earlier, federal prosecutors argued he should be sentenced to 24.5 years (or 294 months) in prison, three years of supervised release, $2,000 restitution and a fine of $71,541. Rest of article here: DOJ secures longest sentence yet for convicted Jan. 6 defendant i'd rather i died before he was released, but this will do.

trump supports J6 rioters convicted of seditious conspiracy. Trump's supporters behind him did not stand for the national anthem. never been a fan of the pledge OR the national anthem OR Trump. having the three combined is maybe the last thing i would ever listen to. Just another deplorable action of trump.

I'd like to see the guy die before he's eligible for release. The list of people I'd like to see die is way too long for comfort.

Capitol rioter who shocked police officer with stun gun is sentenced to over 12 years in prisonWASHINGTON (AP) — A California man who drove a stun gun into a police officer's neck during one of the most violent clashes of the U.S. Capitol riot was sentenced on Wednesday to more than 12 years in prison. Daniel “D.J.” Rodriguez yelled, “Trump won!” as he was led out of the courtroom where U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson sentenced him to 12 years and seven months behind bars for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack. Only two other Jan. 6 defendants have received longer prison terms so far after hundreds of sentencings for Capitol riot cases. The judge said Rodriguez, 40, was “a one-man army of hate, attacking police and destroying property” at the Capitol. “You showed up in (Washington) D.C. spoiling for a fight,” Jackson said. “You can't blame what you did once you got there on anyone but yourself.” Metropolitan Police Officer Michael Fanone 's body camera captured him screaming out in pain after Rodriguez shocked him with a stun gun while he was surrounded by a mob. Another rioter had dragged Fanone into the crowd outside a tunnel on the Capitol's Lower West Terrace, where a line of police officers was guarding an entrance to the building. Other rioters began beating Fanone, who lost consciousness and suffered a heart attack after Rodriguez pressed the stun gun against his neck and repeatedly shocked him. Remember the ‘it was just peaceful tourists protesting gently while the capital police welcomed them into the building’ bullshit?
Nope - repeatedly stun gunned until he had a heart attack.
Hope he finds everyday in prison a hard and merciless place.

He should get down on his knees and thank whatever god he worships that they let him out early, scurry off to to some distant place where he can disappear into the woodwork and vow never to get suckered into any foolish conspiracies ever again.

I'm shocked at this news, I say. Shocked. Trump notified he is target in DOJ’s Jan. 6 investigationFormer President Trump said Tuesday morning that he has been alerted he is a target of the Justice Department’s Jan. 6 investigation focusing on his efforts to stay in power after losing the 2020 election. Trump said he received the “target letter” Sunday evening. “Deranged Jack Smith, the prosecutor with Joe Biden’s DOJ, sent a letter (again it was Sunday night!) stating that I am a TARGET of the January 6th Grand Jury investigation, and giving me a very short 4 days to report to the Grand Jury, which almost always means an arrest and indictment.” It had been clear that Trump’s actions would be a central focus of the investigation, as Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed a special counsel to review the matter last year to determine “whether any person or entity unlawfully interfered with the transfer of power.” But as Trump states, receiving a target letter is often a sign someone will soon face charges. Don’t think he will get as sympathetic a judge in DC. Jury pool may also be less MAGA inclined

www.cnn.com/politics/live-news/donald-trump-target-letter-january-6/index.htmlSources: Target letter about Jan. 6 probe caught Trump's team off guard From CNN's Kaitlan Collins Donald Trump’s attorneys, including Todd Blanche, received the target letter from Jack Smith’s team Sunday informing them that their client could face charges in the investigation into efforts to overturn the 2020 election, two sources familiar with what happened tell CNN.
Trump’s legal team has not formally responded to the invitation to testify before the grand jury, which the letter provides, but it is largely expected that Trump will decline to do so.
The letter caught Trump’s team off guard, who had not been anticipating Smith to potentially bring charges this month, or against Trump. The letter indicates he could do so soon.Apparently Trump's attorneys are the only ones who are surprised.

Kevin McCarthy should be removed and expelled from the House. What a kiss-ass. Not the Justice's problem trump is running for reelection yet again and lying through his mouth at every turn. Crimes should not go un-prosectuted or un-punished just because of who the defendent is. Kevin McCarthy Says Potential Jan. 6 Charges Against Trump Reflect Political BiasWASHINGTON ― House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) claimed Tuesday that the Justice Department would only bring charges against former President Donald Trump to hurt his image. Trump said in a post on his Truth Social website Tuesday morning that he’d been summoned to appear before a grand jury investigating his role in the events of Jan. 6, 2021, when his supporters stormed the Capitol. “I guess under a Biden administration, Biden America, you’d expect this,” McCarthy told reporters. “If you noticed, recently, President Trump went up in the polls and was actually surpassing President Biden for reelection. So, what do they do now? Weaponize government to go after their No. 1 opponent.” McCarthy has long sought to stay in Trump’s good grace since his speakership hinges on support from far-right lawmakers devoted to the twice-impeached former president. In the immediate aftermath of the attack on the Capitol, however, McCarthy blamed Trump for what happened. “The president bears responsibility for Wednesday’s attack on Congress by mob rioters,” McCarthy said in a speech on the House floor in which he recommended Trump be censured but not impeached for his conduct. if so, then the GOP is a criminal cabal. is that what McCarthy is saying? At least half of America would say that at this point. The difference between the two parties is that Democrats actually have reason to think that about Republicans.

I think the lawyers fully expected this, but were too chicken shit to suggest it to Trump, and are now pretending to be shocked. What a nightmare legal client he must be. Won’t take any advice, won’t shut his pie hole, won’t pay his bills, thinks he’s smarter than every lawyer in the room.

He wants to focus on those who did not want to actively hang him. It's his only way to get them as voters, so I am not surprised. If he was less interested in the Presidency, he would have found a lesser political office and run for that. It's strange to me he thinks he has a chance to win.
