He wants to focus on those who did not want to actively hang him. It's his only way to get them as voters, so I am not surprised. If he was less interested in the Presidency, he would have found a lesser political office and run for that. It's strange to me he thinks he has a chance to win. If he was the god-fearing, law-abiding Christian he claims to be, he would tell the American public the truth about what went on leading up to the J6 riot. His own party hates him anyway.

I am currently watching the British Open so thought of this. There are a number of different golf tours but one major one. There are a small number of really top golfers and a second level group that occasionally get on the leader board and even win once in a lifetime. I would think that one of them could really dominate a lesser tour. Still I see them working to stay on the major tour. I am thinking once they get a taste, it would be tough to go back to a lesser status tour. Is it a similar experience with running for president? Just quiet Sunday morning musing.

I guess I can post Rudi news here. NYT article. Paywall for most. Giuliani Concedes He Made False Statements About Georgia Election WorkersRudolph W. Giuliani said he still had “legal defenses” in a case brought by two election workers who said he had defamed them as he asserted that the 2020 election was marred by fraud. Rudolph W. Giuliani has conceded that while acting as a lawyer for former President Donald J. Trump, he made false statements by asserting that two Georgia election workers had mishandled ballots while counting votes in Atlanta during the 2020 election. The concession by Mr. Giuliani came in court papers filed on Tuesday night as part of a defamation lawsuit that the two workers, Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, had brought against him in Federal District Court in Washington in December 2021. The suit accused Mr. Giuliani and others of promoting a video that purported to show Ms. Freeman and Ms. Moss — who are mother and daughter — of manipulating ballots while working at the State Farm Arena for the Fulton County Board of Elections. In a two-page declaration, Mr. Giuliani acknowledged that he had in fact made the statements about Ms. Freeman and Ms. Moss that led to the filing of the suit and that the remarks “carry meaning that is defamatory per se.” He also admitted that his statements were “actionable” and “false” and that he no longer disputed the “factual elements of liability” the election workers had raised in their suit. But Mr. Giuliani, insisting that he still had “legal defenses” in the case, said that he continued to believe his accusations about Ms. Freeman and Ms. Moss were “constitutionally protected” under the First Amendment. He also refused to acknowledge that his statements had caused the women any damage — a key element required to collect a judgment in a defamation case. Rest of article here: Giuliani Concedes He Made False Statements About Georgia Election Workers

Here is a CNN article: Giuliani concedes he made defamatory statements about Georgia election workers
Found this sickeningly hilarious: Hours after making the filing, a political adviser to Giuliani issued a statement further parsing Giuliani’s concessions.
“Mayor Rudy Giuliani did not acknowledge that the statements were false but did not contest it in order to move on to the portion of the case that will permit a motion to dismiss,” Ted Goodman, the Giuliani adviser said.
“This is a legal issue, not a factual issue. Those out to smear the mayor are ignoring the fact that this stipulation is designed to get to the legal issues of the case.”

So if I understand his position- he admits he made up bullshit about them having suitcases of fake votes, but it’s his constitutional right to say what he wants, and they weren’t harmed by what he said - so dismiss the case.
Is this what he’s going with?
I think all the ladies have to do is show they actually were harmed - should be pretty easy, given the death threats, etc.
Then there would just be the matter of how much he has to pay them. Hope it’s so much he can’t afford to buy hair dye.

Not admit it but he is going to just let it pass that they are saying he made up bullshit, even though he didn't, because it doesn't matter. Then agree with you from there.

And that is exactly what prosecutors say White House lawyers attempted to do. By January, when it was clear that they could not get Trump to listen, the lawyers began warning others about the grave consequences of continuing to deny the results of the election. Three days before Jan. 6, Philbin told Jeffrey Clark, a Justice Department lawyer, that if Trump remained in office despite no evidence of fraud there would be “riots in every major city in the United States.” To which Clark, according to prosecutors, responded: “That’s why there’s an Insurrection Act," referring to the specific statute that gives the president the power, in rare circumstances, to use military force inside the United States. www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/indictment-shows-white-house-lawyers-struggling-for-control-as-trump-fought-to-overturn-election/ar-AA1f4iII?ocid=msedgntp&cvid=30ac2e17ce254eccb26c37c503729c65&ei=36I have often wondered how disappointed Trump was that more people weren't killed at the J6 riot. I think deep down this was the plot all along, major riots everywhere and he would use military force and stay in office. It's hard to believe there are people that still support this man.

The restrained response by Capitol police was good. If it had been a bloodbath, Congress would not have been able to quickly reconvene and finish their job.

I heard today from a talking head on a news show that Bill Barr resigned because Trump tried to force him to arrest Biden and his family members a few weeks before the election- I hadn’t heard that before, has anyone else?
I’d love to know if Barr himself said this, otherwise I’d have to consider it rumor.
If that actually happened, it makes sense that Trump is convinced Biden is personally attacking him to keep him from being elected.

Barr announced his resignation December 14th (link) so I would be more tempted to believe "... a few weeks after the election." Does sound like the type of thing Trump would think about doing and we know that Trump's mouth has no filter.

Trump twice amplified supporters’ criticisms of Attorney General William Barr, including one featuring a meme calling on him to “arrest somebody!” He wondered aloud why his rivals, like President Barack Obama, Democratic nominee Joe Biden and former Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton hadn’t been imprisoned for launching a “coup” against his administration. “Where are all of the arrests?” Trump said, after several dozen tweets on the subject over the past 24 hours. “Can you imagine if the roles were reversed? Long term sentences would have started two years ago. Shameful!” By early afternoon, Trump was letting loose his frustrations in an all-caps missive that seemed aimed at nobody in particular. “DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS, THE BIGGEST OF ALL POLITICAL SCANDALS (IN HISTORY)!!! BIDEN, OBAMA AND CROOKED HILLARY LED THIS TREASONOUS PLOT!!! BIDEN SHOULDN’T BE ALLOWED TO RUN - GOT CAUGHT!!!” Trump tweeted. Specifics aside, the level of ignorance of how legislation is passed displayed by this candidate for POTUS is shocking to me. Then the specifics, the level of ignorance of how elections are done in this country by this candidate for POTUS is shocking to me. He needs a lesson in US Government 101.

But would he be able to pass that test himself? “The U.S. Constitution, it is the strongest guarantor of freedom in human history. Here is an interesting case involving election misconduct by a Democrat: FLINT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A local official in Michigan accused of breaking a seal on a ballot box in her own election to ensure that votes couldn’t be recounted was sentenced Monday to six months of house arrest.
Kathy Funk, a Democrat, must wear an electronic monitor and also write a public apology for her actions in 2020 as the Flint Township clerk.

Ex-Proud Boys leader stares down decades in prison for Jan. 6 caseThe former leader of the Proud Boys, Enrique Tarrio, is staring down decades in prison at a sentencing hearing on Wednesday after being convicted of seditious conspiracy in connection with the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. Prosecutors have requested 33 years in prison for Tarrio, the highest sentencing sought for anyone convicted in connection to the riot. Prosecutors said Tarrio influenced “countless subordinate members” of the Proud Boys and the general public in a conspiracy to forcefully stop a peaceful transfer of power following the 2020 election. In federal court in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday ahead of sentencing, Tarrio joined four other members of the right-wing extremist group who were tried earlier this year. Each of the defendants were convicted in May of serious felonies, and all but one were convicted of sedition. Tarrio had asked the court for less prison time than what the Justice Department recommended, but did not request a specific sentencing range, according to court filings. Instead, he argued against the use of a terrorism enhancement in deciding his sentence. Rest of article here: Ex-Proud Boys leader stares down decades in prison for Jan. 6 case

Article dated yesterday. How Florida law could trip up Trump if he’s convicted before the 2024 electionNo one may have been more surprised by the decisive moment in last week’s first GOP presidential debate than Desmond Meade. Meade is executive director of the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition, which works to restore voting rights in the state to former felons. Florida has long been one of the states that have made it most difficult for former felons to recover the ability to vote. In 2018, the coalition led a successful effort to pass a constitutional amendment to make it easier for those residents to regain that right. Ron DeSantis, then a candidate for Florida governor, opposed that amendment when it appeared on the ballot. And then in 2019, as governor, DeSantis supported and signed Republican-backed legislation that significantly diluted the amendment’s impact by adding a requirement that former felons pay any fines or fees they owed before they could vote again in the state. So, Meade was stunned when he saw DeSantis, after initially hesitating, raise his hand to join five of the eight Republicans on the debate stage in declaring that they would vote for Donald Trump as the GOP presidential nominee next year even if he is convicted of a crime before the election. DeSantis’ willingness to vote for Trump even if he is found guilty on any of the 91 felony criminal charges he’s now facing presents a “dramatic conflict” with his policies as governor toward allowing former felons to vote at all, Meade said. If DeSantis “is supportive of a person with a felony conviction running for the highest office, then he should be supportive of everyone getting their rights restored so they can vote even for their [city] councilman,” Meade said. Both the legal and political situation surrounding Trump are fluid and uncertain. It might be that none of the four criminal cases against him come to trial before next November’s election (though the federal judge supervising his case for allegedly trying to overturn the 2020 election on Monday set a trial date of March 4.) He might be acquitted in any of the cases that do get to court. Alternately, he might not win the GOP nomination. But if those circumstances do converge – and Trump both wins the nomination and is found guilty of a felony – he would shine an enormous spotlight on how other convicted felons are treated in the political system every day. Rest of article here: How Florida law could trip up Trump if he’s convicted before the 2024 election
