Isn't this really about the old sexual double standard for men and women?
ADDED: ok, now I've seen 2 different videos for this song... the "animated" one made me laugh (the double entendre images/metaphors). The live action one - made me feel like I am NOT the target audience for this song. I also saw one with just the music and a still image - so 3 different you tube videos. The song is still not growing on me. The rhyming doesn't seem all that clever and the rhythm is all about sex - but you can say that about 95% of pop songs.

In the song, it IS a male voice who says "There's some whores in this house". I take the women's lyrics as them taking their power back. Okay, except it also ends with the male saying it as the two women scurry away. I did not watch the video. And what Tiny said.

Is the song or the discussion about the double standard? I found one that was referred to as the official video which had live action. Didn't see an "animated" one. I know I am not the target audience of any of it. (I am listening to Kris Kristofferson radio on Pandora as I type this)

First, I gotta say that I find it hilarious that WAP is even a subject of discussion here. Second, “there’s some whores in this house” is a sample from another song that people that listen to rap (maybe just my generation of people, idk) are likely to recognize. Third, I remember when George Michael’s song “I Want Your Sex” was released and there was all kinds of outrage over it being played on the radio. We’ve come a long way since then, or have we? Carlie B is not a role model for children. It’s crazy for people to even expect entertainers to be role models for their children, or even expect them to be someone that they themselves can admire. A lot of rappers rap about what they know, whether it’s the streets, sex, whatever. It’s not hard to avoid listening to it if it offends one’s sensibilities.

IDK Carlie B broke the glass ceiling in rap and is a smart business woman.
I may not care for her music but there are things that I would consider good traits to aspire to.
If it offends people she got there with songs about her vagina don't listen to it. Why is she supposed to be at a higher standard than pretty much every Male singer on the planet?
It's a double standard. I can see clutching pearls at an offensive song by a man but there wouldn't be nearly the personal attacks or questioning of private sexual activities. It would be boys being boys.

I have never been a fan of explicit lyrics. I prefer a songwriter who can slip it in smoothly, if you know what I mean.

Why did Cardi sample the song? I don't know, but she not stupid regardless of how many people try to paint her that way. The song doesn't have any more lyrics, but she isn't the first rapper to sample it. So why is it a big deal for her to when lil Wayne sampled it or outkast? Where's everyone being upset over these men using it cuz they certainly painted women in a worse light than Cardi did in WAP.
Guys have been using sex in their songs forever and no one bats an eye. Worse a lot of the time it's not in a good light at all, but I guess it's better for men to degrade women in songs than women to own their sexually in it.
This is a woman who has fully owned her past as a stripper. I think she stopped caring what most thought a long ass time ago. And is probably like men call women whores in their songs all the time, I'll put it in mine and make a shit ton of money.
Like damn, maybe if we had more songs like hers more men could find the clit and women wouldn't have to fake orgasms.

I am just attempting to figure out why she included lyrics that references whores. There are a couple of other lines that mention in kind monetary rewards. Does she equate that with a straight cash transaction?

There are a couple of other lines that mention in kind monetary rewards. Does she equate that with a straight cash transaction? I can't say for sure. I'm guessing her background of using stripping as her way out of poverty and a means to an education influences it. I wouldn't be surprised if it's some commentary on all the male rappers that reference gold diggers and buying hoes/whores stuff - and throwing it back at buy us shit but I still want good sex for it. Or possibly how guys can be stupid if they have good sex and buy you whatever you want. Or maybe because both women can buy that for themselves they're looking for men that can give them finer things using the guy's money and not use the women's. Good chance there could be a bit of taking back the word - I've called my girl friends whore in a joking/sarcastic/ironic manner (also enjoy calling guys whores but that's another convo to a certain extent). I wouldn't put it past her to sample a song male rappers have used without comment expecting everyone to lose their minds at the whore part while it was more or less ignored when guys used it. I don't follow her a lot because her music isn't what I prefer most of the time, but she already strikes me as a bit of a you call me a whore fuck you I'll show you a whore type of personality. And not following her and her other songs could mean I'm missing a bit too, or maybe not. I remember recently people were dragging Cardi on her political opinions and her AP teacher from high school came out and much more nicely said fuck yall she's a lot smarter than you ignorant assholes think just because she raps and wears revealing clothes.

And maybe she doesn't see sex work as bad. She probably doesn't. A whore is a woman that gets paid for sex. Why is she worse than a man who pays for it - and I'm quite positive there's more guys willing to pay for it that women willing to sell it. If you ask me and we were assigning who's worse it would be the guy hands down. They'll damn a woman for doing porn and think her lesser while jacking off to the porn thinking watching somehow makes them better.
Though in the real world the worse is the, usually guys, pimps that take advantage or traffic them. The customers who take advantage of sex work being illegal to not pay what was agreed or to assault sex workers. The Justice system that's stupidly decided that going after the women is the way to stop sex work (it's not).
Much like drugs, if we take away the criminality and regulate it a lot of the bad stuff disappears once it's no longer in the shadows.

I was talking to DH about 80's rock ballads and said have you ever really paid attention to the lyrics? These are freaking stalker songs. Yet those are considered classics. If some man came up to me and said "Hello is it me you are looking for" and started following me around the apartment complex would get his ass tasered. Yet everyone knows that song and a lot of people like it. But Cardi B sings about the power of her own vagina and sexuality now THAT is something we need to be outraged by. How dare she boast that her vagina is so powerful it can get a man to buy a car for her. What a whore! If she was a man stalking a woman .. .awww that's so romantic.

I don't like vulgar songs no matter which gender sings them. However, if that was cardi b's ticket out of poverty, more power to her.
As for singing about sex more subtly--sex isn't bad. My opinion is just that hanging everything out there is ugly, and not really sexy.

. Careful, your racial bias is peeking out. She's singing about 'n****' as her sexual partner. Is it racial bias to assume she means a black guy? N***a is not race specific IMO. N***er most definitely is. I know that I'm not the only one who thinks this.

My opinion is just that hanging everything out there is ugly, and not really sexy. And that is fine. The song lyrics raised my eye brows too. They are designed to shock. It's the questioning of her private sexual affairs, character and a man coming out saying having a WAP during intercourse is not normal is sexist. You don't hear that in regards to male songs. Songs like "Hello" are considering ROMANTIC ballads! That's what makes the conversation sexist. Men have sold and sang about women's sexuality for decades and I don't hear anyone questioning their moral characters, the status of their penises or their sexual activities.

When I hear the lyrics "Hoes in this house", this is what I think of: scene from The Player's Club. So maybe she's thumbing her nose at those who still talk about her being a stripper like "Yeah, but who's making money now?!?"
