I had to look it up. Not a fan of rap or hip-hop. Bloody awful. I read the lyrics first and then watched the video, I'd probably have a different reaction had I started with hearing it on the radio. The WAP part was the easiest to deal with. I didn't see it as a graphic this is how I like it song, but more as a I'm selling myself for money and things song, and here are my USPs - unique selling points. The video grossed me out more than Trump's 30 flags did, but they seem like the same thing. Over-selling and trying too hard. I've noticed the posted reactions of female posters younger than me are much different. Was there a memo I missed? Is being a whore supposed to be a good thing? Buy me a car, pay my tuition, this is how I got my ring?

Why is it offensive when a woman rapper decides she's going to market her sexuality herself? You don't like it don't listen to it. Don't approve of Cardi B then don't buy her music or any of her products.

(I do like hip hop and rap just generally not the stuff you don't hear on the radio.) This time around my take away was same as NomoreDrama's - a woman rapper marketing her sexuality to men, herself. I actually smiled/laughed at the video. FWIW Janelle Monae has been doing it too - but she's pretty open that she's playing for the other team - so her songs target women.

There was something on Twitter where one of them said we needed way more women like Melania and way less like Cardi B following Melania's RNC speech. Cardi came back with "Didn't Melania used to sell that WAP?" Cardi is now officially my hero. They are the same. They just sell to different markets. Cardi B seems like she's angling to get herself someone like Kanye and Melania might need to go fish for the next rich white guy. I dont' think Cardi is gonna put up with kanye's shit.

If slavery is over would it really be a good thing for someone to sell themselves as a slave because that's the way they knew how to survive? Should I say good for them or is it OK to be disappointed that that's how they feel they need to survive? Most female singers are selling their sexuality, but usually they don't glorify being a whore. That's what I find offensive and worrying. Now I get why sexism isn't going away anytime soon, too many women think the current system works for them so more Melanias, CardiB's and Joy Villas to come.

I said certified freak, seven days a week. She's basically saying one needs to be a whore to like sex and be freaky.

She's calling women who enjoy sex whores. That's a very misogynistic point of view.

She's selling herself as a whore. I guess I don't get why that's a plus even if I don't like pimps.

I've just read the lyrics again twice and I don't get that she is saying become a whore or pimp yourself out. Reading the song in its entirety I interpret as she's got that dang good of a WAP that men will do anything to ride it.
And even if she is so what? She's laughing all the way to the bank. The woman is a triple platnium artist in a music genre dominated by men. That's an impressive feat even if you disagree with her music. I don't have to like her songs to appreciate her talent and skill.
Don't listen to the song. Don't buy her music or her products. It's your choice. How many men have made bazillions off selling the EXACT same thing? You better be clutching your pearls over them too because if you're only going after Cardi B your inner sexism is showing.

I expected Melania to marry a rich white guy. Is that bias or where I think she was selling to? CardiB's style seems to be that over the top stuff I associate with certain black male rappers. So yes, that's what I see as what she wants. Is it wrong I didn't expect her to marry some Indian guy or a classical musician of any color?

My very personal view of what it is about rap that makes it not appeal to me. The view out my office window is similar to this: and not this: It is about the edges and the angles.
