When I hear the lyrics "Hoes in this house", this is what I think of: scene from The Player's Club. So maybe she's thumbing her nose at those who still talk about her being a stripper like "Yeah, but who's making money now?!?" This is where I think she's coming from. That's very Cardi B.

I don't like vulgar songs no matter which gender sings them. However, if that was cardi b's ticket out of poverty, more power to her. As for singing about sex more subtly--sex isn't bad. My opinion is just that hanging everything out there is ugly, and not really sexy. And that is fine. The song lyrics raised my eye brows too. They are designed to shock. It's the questioning of her private sexual affairs, character and a man coming out saying having a WAP during intercourse is not normal is sexist. You don't hear that in regards to male songs. Songs like "Hello" are considering ROMANTIC ballads! That's what makes the conversation sexist. Men have sold and sang about women's sexuality for decades and I don't hear anyone questioning their moral characters, the status of their penises or their sexual activities. Well, yeah. The faux news commentators rant is absolutely ridiculous, but that's what they do to get their viewers riled up. As for Hello, I think you're reading way more into that song than is there. (Unless we're not talking Lionel Richie?). I just reviewed the lyrics, and there's nothing there but a crush. The video is just limited early music video skills. There is one thing that impressed me with the WAP video-- the silent part showing the back of one the ladies walking away, swishing the bottom of her robe (or whatever it is) on the floor. Anyway, I digress.

Is she "thumping her nose at" or feeding them? Not a bad marketing move. She has us talking.

I was talking to DH about 80's rock ballads and said have you ever really paid attention to the lyrics? These are freaking stalker songs. Yet those are considered classics. If some man came up to me and said "Hello is it me you are looking for" and started following me around the apartment complex would get his ass tasered. Yet everyone knows that song and a lot of people like it. But Cardi B sings about the power of her own vagina and sexuality now THAT is something we need to be outraged by. How dare she boast that her vagina is so powerful it can get a man to buy a car for her. What a whore! If she was a man stalking a woman .. .awww that's so romantic. We always made our kids listen to our 80s music on long trips. Maybe they didn’t pay much attention, but a couple years ago when DD was in her 20s and driving with us, she said “OMG I can’t believe those 80s songs! We hear so much about our songs being bad “. I think we just heard a Prince song and then George Michael’s “I Want Your Sex”.

I also pointed out that he knows darn well if the internet had existed when we were kids we would have also been listening to "forbidden" music and probably a heck of a lot worse. I am not going to freak out over Gwen hearing the uncensored version of WAP.

In my high phys ed class, we had to create an exercise routine, for which we chose to use "I want your sex", and had the class do butt lifts, cause, you know kids will try to get away with what they can. I can't believe our teacher let us do that. We thought it was hilarious.

I'm not thrilled she heard it and I'm not running out to buy her the CD but there is no point in freaking out over it. I can't make her unhear it. We would have done the same thing only it would have been borrowing a tape or CD from a friend to find out what the big deal is.

The kids weren't allowed to have the parental guidance version of CD's before they were fifteen. Ended up getting the stepson suspended. He got one for Christmas from his Dad's side of the family and knew he couldn't keep it. He ended up doing a trade on the school bus for this "really cool looking" pot pipe. The bus driver saw and reported it. The principal (a family friend) checked his pants when he was dressed down for gym, found the pipe in one pocket and a baggie in another. He told us his first reaction was "damn" and then he laughed when it contained rubber bands for braces. Ended up the pipe had never been used and when the drug counselor interviewed the kid said he scored a zero on likelihood to use drugs. Still a three day automatic suspension. He spent this three days doing community service.

In elementary school would always take a couple extra quarters every Friday to pay for popcorn for any kid who didn't have the money. Big guy. Drove the football coaches crazy because he would just try to kinda get in the way when he was blocking. Afraid he would hurt someone if he really hit them.

I think we just heard a Prince song and then George Michael’s “I Want Your Sex”. I think lyrics have gotten more explicit over time much like TV shows show more than what was allowed when I was young. I actually looked up the lyrics for "I Want Your Sex" and found this as well- www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/jacquees/wantyoursex.html ("He know I got the juice, I'm like Nectar") "I Want Your Sex" came out when I was in college, so much less impactful than had I been younger. George Michael took a lot of shit for his sexuality and presumed sexuality. www.cnn.com/2016/12/26/entertainment/george-michael-cnn-interview-1998/index.html"I spent the first half of my career being accused of being gay when I hadn't had anything like a gay relationship," Michael said in the interview. "So I spent my years growing up being told what my sexuality was really ... which was kind of confusing."

First, I gotta say that I find it hilarious that WAP is even a subject of discussion here. Second, “there’s some whores in this house” is a sample from another song that people that listen to rap (maybe just my generation of people, idk) are likely to recognize.Third, I remember when George Michael’s song “I Want Your Sex” was released and there was all kinds of outrage over it being played on the radio. We’ve come a long way since then, or have we? Carlie B is not a role model for children. It’s crazy for people to even expect entertainers to be role models for their children, or even expect them to be someone that they themselves can admire. A lot of rappers rap about what they know, whether it’s the streets, sex, whatever. It’s not hard to avoid listening to it if it offends one’s sensibilities. That let's us know where it came from but not why it came. I'll admit I'm catching up on the thread now, don't know if this was asked already. why does it matter why the sample came to be? there's a Fastball song (The Way) that samples a spin of the radio dial. others, like Eminem's Sing for the Moment, sample everything about another longstanding music staple (Aerosmith's Dream On). Vanilla Ice 'sampled' heavily from Queen for Ice Ice, Baby. not sure how or why it is a judgment on an artist as to the original they sampled for their own work.

Why did Cardi sample the song? I don't know, but she not stupid regardless of how many people try to paint her that way. The song doesn't have any more lyrics, but she isn't the first rapper to sample it. So why is it a big deal for her to when lil Wayne sampled it or outkast? Where's everyone being upset over these men using it cuz they certainly painted women in a worse light than Cardi did in WAP. Guys have been using sex in their songs forever and no one bats an eye. Worse a lot of the time it's not in a good light at all, but I guess it's better for men to degrade women in songs than women to own their sexually in it. This is a woman who has fully owned her past as a stripper. I think she stopped caring what most thought a long ass time ago. And is probably like men call women whores in their songs all the time, I'll put it in mine and make a shit ton of money. Like damn, maybe if we had more songs like hers more men could find the clit and women wouldn't have to fake orgasms. have I told you lately, that I love you?

OMG, one of my radio pre-sets is 60s on 6. have a listen to some of those songs if you want to have a heart attack. I listen to music as background noise all day long, and I grew up on 60s music. so I don't have to pay attention to know what song it is, or whatever. perfect background noise. except I started paying attention to the lyrics after my sister and I started going to the Turtles summer tour a few years ago. for starters - how is Gary Puckett not in jail for his lyrics, back in 1968??

What does the sample bring to the (turn)table? It was suggested that the song is about a liberated female sexuality. Prostitution, on the other hand, is a business transaction. I found the male voice starting and ending the song declaring the women in the song were whores to negatively impact the power of a message of female sexuality being socially acceptable. Others offered some good counter points.
