Just had a bowl of my homemade tortilla soup for lunch. It's a Weight Watchers recipe; it's so good, though, that I make it for family and friends as regular food. (All credit goes to the recipe. It's a "can't miss" one.)
Went shopping Sunday night with my DH. We're going to try our first "Don't Spend" February. I'm modifying it a little. We each get a small set amount of pocket money on payday -- the 15th and the last day of the month -- and that can be used for anything. Movies, lunch out w/ friends, whatever. And we can eat dinner out only if we use gift cards we already have (got a few during the holidays).
DH is going to retire in the next two or three years, and we're trying to really bulk up liquid savings while contributing to our Roths. (The 401k is automatic withdrawal at work.) Too, this will kind of serve as a retirement budget test run.
P. S. I love spaghetti sauce any way I can get it; hence, Weight Watchers tortilla soup.

Among the winners: Buy 10 get $5 off of: 49 cent Hunts sauce (dutt, yay! I remembered!!! ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/grin.png) ) 49 cent white pinto beans 99 cent Del Monte fruit Also: 77 cent avocado Pistachios on sale for $2.99 and I had a $1 store coupon. The fruit would end up being .49 a can if you bought 10. I love those numbers! 20.00 worth for less than 5.00. 75% savings. Holy cow! What store did you shop at?

Last night we bought a new TV for our living room. I have been watching the sales for 1.5 years now and this was finally the best deal we have seen. We bought a 47 inch LG and used giftcards we were still holding on to from the wedding. We ended up paying $45 OOP and still have $100 in giftcards (We could have paid the $45 on that giftcard, but I hate having an odd balance on those generic gift cards because it's a PITA to use them again!)
We are moving the TV in the living room up to our bedroom and moving the bedroom TV into our new workout room. The TV in our bedroom was mine from college and when I moved to FL 5 years ago it got a scratch across the screen that we've been ignoring ever since. The TV that is currently in our living room was the perfect size for our apartment but way too small for our living room now that we bought a house.
Was it 100% necessary purchase? I would say no -- but it's definitely improving my life! No more pretending to ignore the scratch and now our living room won't look so silly. I also spent 1.5 years looking for this deal, so I'm happy with the purchase!

Dutt: At kroger/City Market. Monica: Congrats on the excellent new TV deal!! I just checked Kroger's ad. They're in Virginia Beach, 3.8 miles away. We only have a 1 page ad and the sauce isn't on it. Today I went through grocery ads in the paper and online and managed to save 59% on my grocery bill. It started at $105.72, but with the store card, store coupons, online savings (loaded to the card), manufacturer coupons and a couple things on clearance, I only paid $42.98 (62.76 savings). Took advantage of coupons for milk, "fancy" cheese (I love trying new cheeses), coffee creamer, bread, canned tuna, avocados, hot sauce, etc. It wasn't all healthy though, I bought five 12 packs of coke and other pop + deposit (that should cover me a few months, I'm down to less than one pop a day--usually just one every 3 or 4 days--I won't give up my Coke habit completely).

I did the usuals, took lunch to work, took a break where I wouldn't buy stuff. I came home straight from work. Thursday, I went to Kroger. Their bargain dishwasher detergent is no longer sold. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/sad.png) I saw a tiny tag by the Finish that said buy any combination of 10, and get for $3.17. I had to almost kiss my knees to get the last box way on the back of the shelf. I found some other things I use as unadvertised specials. I guess I saved about 20 off of 45.

Apple: My DD1 loves Coke too. She's down to 2 or 3 cans a week. I bought some at the NEX this week for her, 5/12.00 (12 packs). I'm stuck on the coffee habit. One cup a day before 5 PM.
You all are finding some good deals at the grocery. There haven't been good deals here for 3 weeks - not even cherry picking deals. I'm stocked up so I just need to wait the stores out.

I love reading all of your posts. So, first, thank you so much for posting. DH improvised something to deflect the heat vents in our house yesterday. It looks a little wonky, but, instead of (forced air heat through the floor) buying a couple, he made a couple. Now our air is flowing across the floor and into the kitchen instead of up under curtains/windows...etc. (short dowel rods with some fiber board). Cost, zero, comfort a plus. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png)
ETA: I ws so excited about the heat, I forgot to mention my saving. About 10 years ago, we purchased a foodsaver. It has served us very well. (buy in bulk at a good price and store). It recently hasn't been sealing well. I checked the manufacturer's website and our model was no longer listed. I called them, because what we really think is wrong is just a gasket. I did flip the gasket over, but, it's still not as good as it could be. They think that is the only problem. So, for a replacement part that is coming next week for $3.00 plus shipping (another $3.50), We won't (maybe) have to replace the unit. (fingers crossed). Their products run between $70-$200.
ETA, the gasket came and it didn't work. Too small. I called the company, they are crediting the purchase and told me to discard the gasket. They now consider it obsolete. They did offer to sell me a replacement (discounted and free shipping), but the jury is out on that one.

DOGMOM: Thank you for the info on your sealer. The same thing just happened to mine. I'll try flipping it over before I order a new one. Your prize is: ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/star.gif) A star named after you in the night sky!

Gals, I made pasta sauce from the canned Hunts for the first time Monday night! DH liked it. I doctored it up with Italian sausage (store brand), fresh garlic, Italian spices, and onion powder. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/grin.png) Not bad for 49 cents a can. Just wanted to put a shout out to our stockpiling, store cherry picking ways! So far this week I've pulled shampoo, conditioner, and fem products from my stock pile. No worries about the fact payday isn't for another 1.5 weeks. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png) ETA: And non-HBA stockpile items canned fruit for DH, the Hunts, tomato sauce and ground beef. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png)

Checking in! Received my City Market/king sooper specific to our HH coupons this week. They include coupons for FREE Jimmy Dean sausage and FREE Kraft mayo. The latter can get up to $5 not on sale!! ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/shocked.gif) And, a shout out to Donna Freedman, wherever she may be. I think it was last year she had a blog on birthday freebies. Because of that article, DH and I are going to enjoy a free appetizer with our meal tonight, and I'll enjoy a free treat at Cold Stone in a few weeks. I also enjoyed a free Starbucks today. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png) Here's to several weeks of celebrating life. Can't wait to receive an email from the DQ BD Club. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/grin.png)

I have been trying to eat through my stockpile ... I seem to enjoying adding to it too much so it's time to start using it up! This week I am only getting a few things at the grocery store, most of which I have rainchecks and coupons for. The sales aren't great this week + the above mentioned growing stockpile ... it's time to take advantage of this hard work and have a week to not stress about the deals I might be missing! In all honesty, I really do have a sick happiness when I add to my stockpile. I just love handing over a pile of coupons, seeing the total go down and down and down, having the person behind me ask me how I did that, and then bringing it all home to add to my collection. I hope I'm not becoming a hoarder! I think I would shop this way whether we had our current income or millions of dollars. It's like a game to me!

The grocery had every meat needed for sauce on sale. I spent 5.65 and saved 9.00. Turkey sausages, pork, and hamburg. I got a beautiful pink winter coat for GD2 at Dillard's for 8.74. Christmas is only 11 months away! Well, her birthday will probably be when she gets it. (September) I do have to make a note to stay out of the little girl's department though. Yesterday I got turkey breasts on sale for $0.99 lb. and store brand real butter on sale for $1.99 lb. Today's ad has fresh asparagus at $1.99 lb. & 1 lb. strawberries BOGO...think I need to go to the store again tomorrow! I can freeze a bunch of that asparagus and strawberries too.

To echo what Monica said: Our sales aren't that great this week. The circular says 50% off on a lot of things. This in itself is good, but, I need specific costs for budget purposes! ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/wink.png) Regardless, last night at the store, the big hitters: Used the free Jimmy Dean and Kraft mayo coupons I mentioned on the prior page. $2 each strawberries and blueberries $1.67 each box GM cereal (sale, coupon) for DH $2.29 large Mountain High yogurt for DH (sale, 50 cent coupon doubled)

Sorry I didn't get back sooner. My computer broke, has been in the shop, got updated & I can't find a thing on it. It's going to take me awhile to get all my "sites" back where I can find them.
The turkey breasts were on a 3 day special...Sun., Mon., Tue. at Winn Dixie, the asparagus & strawberries came out in their weekly ad on Wed....still in effect.
Due to the rising costs of feeds, there may be some bargains here/there in the "meats" catagories...so keep your eyes pealed on those ads. Some places are cutting back on their flocks/herds & could cause a bunch to hit the processors at the same times.

This past week, I've cooked a couple times and used ALL leftovers. I think that is a first ever. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png) Some of the meals were a little, well, left over, but...it's all good. I haven't shopped this week. I may go for a few things we are low on, but, I'd like to continue on this trend. I glanced at our "pantry" and, with a little fresh produce, it should be a very low dollar shopping week.

Zulily is having a great sale. I did Christmas and birthday shopping and spent 76.00 and some change. I 'saved' 97.00 and some change. I covered 2 birthdays, the toys for 2 of the grands, clothes for 4 of the grands and one gift for one adult for Christmas. I also have 15.00 so far this year in amazon gift cards from swagbucks.

Not planning on any shopping this week. DH stopped at the store on the way home and picked up 2 canteloupes (2/$3) and a brand of yogurt was 10/$5 and get a free half gallon of OJ when you bu 10. Otherwise, we're eating through the fridge and freezer this week! I'm so glad to have a stockpile to eat through when the sales are crappy for the week ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png)

Menard's 8 serving shore lunch dry soup $2.48. And I thought $3 at Big Lots for Bear Creek dry soup was a good buy.
Every penny saved goes to gasoline.

We found some great prices on granola bars and cheese and avocadoes at The Grocery Outlet over the weekend.
And we did a LOT of garage cleaning and decluttering ... woot! woot!
