I cleaned out the freezer this morning. I found stuff to make a turkey pot pie. The crusts were .69 for 2. Normally I use pepperdoo's recipe, but .69 and a bit of laziness won out. I had the turkey which was free because DD1 paid for it. The carrots were a third of a bag that I paid .99 cents for. The broth was home made so whatever the water cost I can add to the cost. The butter comes to .12 cents and I don't know what 3 T of flour would cost. Salt, pepper and hg herbs we'll call .10 cents, just to be fair. So 1.24 made a meal of 4 adult servings. I like it! ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/grin.png) I'll serve a tomato salad on the side which will cost 1.28 for 2 tomatoes. And don't forget the milk!

Dutt -- we LOVE pot pie in the winter! it's just such a filling, warm-your-bones kind of meal. I use store bought crusts too, to save time... but I usually pay 1.99 for the store brand which includes 2 crusts. If I ever found crusts for .69 i would buy ALL of them! Tomorrow we are having a luncheon at work, so lunch is taken care of for me and they always send us home with the leftovers too. They always order from the same place and it's realllllllly good so it's a win-win ... free lunch and highly likely i'll get leftovers out of the deal too! ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png)

I have been taking my lunch every day, and bringing a cliff bar for a snack. In the mid-afternoon, I'll feel a blood sugar drop. So, I hit the cliff bar.

KADEE: Asperagus here is (gulp) 7.99 a pound. Got a rain check from Tops for 5 lbs at $1.99/lb. Unusual that they were out of a produce sale item.

Checking in really quick with an aha moment! This month I bought frozen, processed food (Stouffer's French bread pizza, Totino's pizza rolls, mozz sticks, etc.) for my 80's throw back birthday party. And, despite the fact I used coupons, I only saved 13% off my shopping order last week instead of my usual 25%+. Coincidence or....? Hmmmm..... ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/sarcasm.png) Winners: 39 cent fresh broc $1.99 pistachios .99 Wasa crackers for DH $1 sour cream Happy weekend!

We accomplished another week of NO thrown out leftovers! ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png) That's pretty big for us. Otherwise, we also have been using down the stockpile. I will have to do a little grocery shopping either today or tomorrow. I was surprised a couple of days ago when DH stated that we really needed to replace our living room furniture. (small house, no family room). He also stated that when we do that, we should replace the carpet. I admit, the couch needed some work, but I thought something just let loose. We cover our furniture with slipcovers, which get changed very regularly. Yesterday, (and yes, I prompted) DH to help me turn over the couch to see if we could find the problem. We did find the problem. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png) DH was able to repair it! Sure, maybe in a few months we will consider new furniture. Yes, budget money is already there to do it, but I just don't feel the need for shopping. As for the carpet, it's also old, but, I think when the weather breaks, I can get the steam cleaner out of the back of the closet and improve the situation there also. Iggy, You are impressive! I love the deals you find. Lynn, part of the leftovers that we will be using is Turkey. Thanks for the reminder for the pot pie. (yep, I see one of those in our future...maybe tonight?) ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png) ETA: I love candles, but as probably all of you have experienced, that they almost always don't burn down all the way. I had a few 3/4 or more leftover sitting on a shelf in the kitchen. I was "crafty" yesterday. I had picked up a package of wicks, removed the extra wax from the jar candles, checked on line...and well, you can guess the rest. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png) The glass containers will go to DS, who is quite talented painting glass, and I have almost a full brand new to us (with a few more leftovers) candle.

DOG: The candle wicks and left over candles is a great SS thing. I have a difficult time getting rid of the bottom of a candle jar, too. Waste makes me sad. It must be from the nuns telling us that there were starving children in China and you best finish that food at lunch. They made sure there were no left overs. Then to hear the same thing at dinner when you ate at home. It was traumatic to a child! ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/grin.png) I read something yesterday in a frugal book I got for my birthday. To put foil in the dish that held a Brillo pad so it didn't rust. I said (to myself, or Marley, whoever would listen) Wait, the frugal thing would be to use a produce bag as a scrubbie, not to buy any Brillo pads. The author did have a great idea for a colander though. To cut the top of a gallon milk carton, poke holes in the bottom, and strain away. He said they use this at their cabin.

Lynn, DH is very much a re-use, re-purpose and re-cycle type of guy. I had him LOL with me being "crafty"... I am so honestly not that way, and well, he had a good time of it. I really like Frugal Books. I have a few that I just refuse to get rid of. Many were purchased at the Library book sale. Yesterday, when I was dusting out a set of bookshelves, I finally put them all together on one shelf..Tightwad Gazette (all three volumes), Heloise's Housekeeping Hints (publ 1962 ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png) ) The revised edition of the Encyclopedia of Household Hints and Dollar Stretchers. (orig 1957, the new edition is 1977) I think the most fun that I got/get out of these books, besides the knowledge, is when the previous owner made notes in the margins or left their own notes in the book. Like: "use 1/4 cup bleach on whites while soaking, don't want to hurt the cotton." ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/wink.png) Please give Marley a big slobbery kiss from Sierra. ETA: and a hug from me.

DOGMOM: I just love love love the Tightwad Gazzette series. To me, that's a book that can be read a hundred times and I would still miss something important. I have those as my favorite and the other book in tie for first place is The Millionaire Next Door. Those 2 books formed my views on frugality. We accomplished another week of NO thrown out leftovers! That's pretty big for us. Otherwise, we also have been using down the stockpile. I will have to do a little grocery shopping either today or tomorrow.
It took me forever to figure this out so every leftover was used. Also I had a light bulb experience just about 3 years ago concerning fresh fruits and veggies. (I'm a slow learner at times.) I was always throwing out some before we could finish them. Gee wiz, I tell myself. How about you purchase less fruits and veggies and use them all? So my life has been improved in that area. I was used to buying for a family of 6 and never brought down the amount I purchased. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/grin.png)

Instead of going every week to the laundry, and burning up lots of gas, I went today, and did 15 loads of laundry. I saved about 26 bucks on gasoline by not going every week. I bought two Christmas gifts that were on sale super super cheap, and I came home to eat leftovers.

Yesterday I pulled a chicken out of the freezer to use for tonight's dinner, along with potatoes from my future BIL's garden and carrots my mom dug up from her garden a few days ago. Tomorrow's dinner will be bean and ham soup. Got the dried beans on sale a few months ago, started soaking them this morning. Need to chop carrots, pull ham (leftover from a while ago), homemade chicken broth, onions and celery from the freezer and put them all in a dish, along with some seasoning. Tomorrow after school DS will put it all in my big stock pot and start heating it. It will cook for about 2 hours before I get home, then I'll add some potatoes. Should be done about an hour later ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png) I may also make a batch of crackers today. The home made ones may not be cheaper per pound, but they are more filling so in the long run I spend less. I could go through a half box of better cheddars in one sitting, but usually only eat a handful of homemade crackers at once. I buy the cheese on sale, so a double batch costs me about $3.50--I need to weigh the crackers after they are baked, but I think a double batch ends up being about 1 1/2 pounds. I looked at making homemade ritz, but I don't have any shortening (my last container went rancid, I just don't use it much). I may see if I can trade something with my parents. I also bought two large containers of honey & strawberry greek yogurt for $1 each at Grocery Outlet. I'm freezing them in smaller portions and will use it in smoothies. I wish I knew how yummy this one was (I don't really care for yogurt) because I would have bought more before they were out.

I made a big pan of mac and cheese tonight with sides of spinach for DH and asparagus for me. The leftovers will be luches tomorrow. I'm also doing some meal planning tonight to keep motivated. All I wanted to do all weekend was go out to eat, which is really not like me at all. Very strange!
We cleaned up and organized the whole entire house today -- I feel so much better when this is done. It's amazing how much stress clutter causes! We also took a whole truck bed full of recycling today. It's been so cold that we've been avoiding taking it to the drop off center, but I just couldn't stand it one more day.

I am very, very, VERY aggravated this morning! A piece of DH's phone was broken and our carrier ordered him a new one as it is still under warranty. They told us to bring the new phone to the store and they would transfer all of the contacts etc. over to the new phone. We took it in on Saturday night and we were told that we needed to do that at home by ourselves following the directions in the booklet. I know for a fact that this isn't true but the woman was insistent and we had to get to another store before it closed, so we left. Last night he sat down to do it around 8:00. Because the old phone was broken, he had to call tech support to get help on how to fix it. Instead of moving all of his contacts into his new phone, the tech accidentally erased them all. Permanently. Then we "got disconnected" (very convenient) and had to call back and jump through hoops to talk to another person. That girl said there was nothing that we could do at that point other than manually enter every contact. I finally got a supervisor on the phone who tried to make things better. In the end, they transferred the contacts from a phone that hasn't' been in use for a year (luckily we still had it!) but at this point he is still missing 40+ contacts. AND he was on the phone from about 8:00 until 11:45. This morning I called to talk to someone about the inconvenience to us and how upset I was with their tech who messed this all up. I asked to be compensated for our time in the form of a credit on our bill. They refused because "we offered you a solution to the best of our ability". My reply is that this is a half-assed solution and if it weren't for your mistake, we wouldn't be in this mess to begin with. The arguing ensued. ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/headbang.gif) Eventually I had to go into work as I was already 10 minutes late just from sitting in the parking lot and arguing with this woman -- but this is not over! They have messed with the wrong woman! ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/angry2.png)

Monica, I am so sorry! ![](http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/smileys/hug.gif) I'd be lost if something happened to the 300+ contacts in my phone! ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/sad.png) IDK who you use, but Verizon offers synching. We can synch our contacts via our online account, and (mine) automatically updates at 8:30 PM. Maybe you/DH can look into it to avoid such inconvenience in the future? ~~~~~~~~~~~ Quick receipt check in: Kroger/City Market Cottonelle 12 pack on sale w/ ecoupon $5.69 Mini carrots, bell peppers/English cuke $1 each Another fresh broc .40 Cottage cheese sale/ecoupon $1.04 Name brand tuna on sale for .79 - I stocked up! Iggy -- thanks for the sympathy. We use Verizon. I switched 3 years ago from ATT after 8 years because I was so disgusted with their customer service ... ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/sarcasm.png) I called our local store yesterday and the manager was very apologetic. He offered me a free charger. Sorry, but the one that the phone came with is working just fine. I then filed an online complaint with their corporate office and wrote them a sternly worded facebook post. Lol ... I should have an answer from corporate by tomorrow (or so they say!) I'm sorry, but it's just bad business in my book. I don't think that I'm asking for too much. I'm just looking for something to compensate our time and frustration, caused by their employee. Tonight I ran to ShopRite. My favorite razor refills were $5.99 for a box of 4 and I had $4 coupons. When I got down the aisle there was a sign posted that said "there was a misprint in our ad, the refills are on sale for $11.99 this week". I s/w a manager and showed him the ad, which had a picture of the exact razors I wanted in them and said exluding only disposable razors. i told him that because the picture was in the ad, he should honor the mistake. He agreed with me and forced the sales price through. I bought the 3 boxes that were left. Now THAT'S customer service! ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/wink.png)

And, I might add, I will be calling ShopRite customer service in the morning to let them know about his good deed. I am the first person to recognize both great and poor service, and I'll be sure to let someone in charge know about it either way. I've waited at restaurants for several minutes on my way out the door just to tell a manager that someone did a great job. They always look shocked.

I opened the creamy liquid soap container that is nearly empty. So far I have gotten an additional 2 showers from this "empty" bottle. Two more are possible.
Today, March 1, is Dr. Suess's birthday. The local retirement home was hosting a free event where you can sign up, choose a book and read it onto a CD. The book and the CD is then mailed to the child. I was allowed to do TWO!

Unfortunately, our streak of using all leftovers will fall short this week. I tried a new product (was free w/coupon a while back) that we really didn't like. So, some dumplings that I added to chicken in the crockpot will get tossed. However, the chicken can be used. I just have to figure out how. It's a good challenge. Otherwise, just waiting for DH to get up. We are going shopping. Okay, I know, shopping isn't always a "saving money" when you are shopping for a want, instead of a need, but, he's been waiting all week for this sale to start, so, it falls under the "improve your life" portion. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png)

My beef with Verizon has been settled. They issued us a $20 credit and I am satisfied that we were heard and understood. Hopefully this NEVER happens again!
This morning I took 3 full contractor's bags with linens from work that they were going to throw away to donate to the animal shelter. They were so appreciative I thought the woman was going to cry. I will get the rest, another 3-4 bags, at work this week and drop them off on my way home.
This morning my dad and DH did some prep work in the basement. We are having an electrician come in tomorrow morning and put up new lights for us and more outlets in the basement and the garage. He is a friend of a friend and doing this for extra money, so we are getting his services cheaper than we would normally. I took out some packages of sausage from the freezer to cook for lunch for them and that will use up the rolls I bought for pulled pork earlier this week. The lights were given to us for free from my dad's friend who is a contractor and was looking to get rid of about 20 lights. We took half, my dad took half.
Tonight I am making stuffed peppers for dinner and getting DH ready to leave tomorrow. He is going to a conference in Vegas. I will fly out to meet him Thursday and then Saturday morning we have rented a car and will drive to the Hoover Dam, the Grand Canyon, and finally to stay with a great friend in Phoenix. We are flying home on Monday and back to normal on Tuesday! I am SO excited. We have talked about going to see the Grand Canyon for years and finally we are going!

I cooked 5 bbq chicken breasts. I have a 2 lb turkey meatloaf in the oven, and I am going to go cook a pot of speckled butter beans, and a large pot of brown rice. The meat is enough to last for over 2 weeks. I clipped some coupons, and am making a shopping list for either tomorrow or Tuesday.

I made a big pot of spaghetti sauce today. That will be tonights dinners and probably 2 or 3 more dinners this week. The rest will restock the freezer. Having good homemade sauce in the freezer is always nice on those "I am so tired" nights. Just cook up some spaghetti noodles and open a jar of green beans and it's dinner.

Mailed in the rebate of $6 for house wash from Menards.
DH got hex screw drivers bogo.
I used my free coupon for a bag of donuts at the grocer on Sat. On Sunday I checked the newspaper at the fitness center for the newspaper and coupon so I grabbed it. Savings of about $4.
End of Feb. I re-upped my fitness membership with a cc that will pay 5% cashback.
Stocked up on items from Big Lots on Saturday 20% off for card holders.

I had to take a hearing test in my hometown for work, didn't get done until almost 11:00. I REALLY wanted to stop by and get fast food for lunch on my way to work, but I convinced myself that fast food no longer agrees with my stomach, and pulled some homemade meatloaf out of the freezer to eat when I got to work.

I took a delicious lunch of leftovers. I have an advantage that most of you don't have. I made a list of what I needed at the store, and gathered all my coupons. Then, before I left work this evening, I peeked at the grocery ads for the week. I went tonight, and shopped the sales. Nothing I need on sale next week. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png)

DD3 and I benefited from the 20% off sale at Big Lots on Sunday, too. It was a sale for everyone, not just card holders. Funny how that works. Two sets of rules for one corporation.
On the improve my life side I went to the coast guard store and bought a bottle of Jim Beam for SILs for the trip. A small bottle that was on sale and no tax. The women will have cherry brandy. Sleep will be good that night!
Then off to Sam's club for snacks for the little ones. Apples and oranges and small bags of chips. I enjoy getting the extras because they don't get junk food too much. They get all excited about the small bags of chips.
We're each going to make a large crock of something to keep costs down for dinners and lunches. One night we'll eat out since there's an Olive Garden close by. We decided to take the kiddos to the ice cream shop at the resort, so a splurge there, too.

Special trip to the store last night. Saved 18% off my order. DH needed cereal and I had coupons for two new Kellogg's brands which happened to be on sale: $3.44 regular price on sale for $3.00 minus .70 cent coupon, doubled up to $1 = $3.44 cereal for $2.00 ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/grin.png) But, the $3.49 huge bakery brownie I splurged on made up for the savings. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/tongue.png) And, I received two more 10% off at the liquor store coupons on the back of the receipt. ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/charmed.png)

I used the magic eraser coupon at Family Dollar - buy 2 and get $2 off. They were $2 so I got one for nothing. Their bags of 5 ounce chips were 50 cents so I bought them all. I noticed their one ounce chips were 50 cents. I didn't get the reduced price coffee as they sold out in 2 hours on Sunday. They might get a truck tonight. Walmart was a shoppers dream. Their clearance clothing racks were anywhere from $2 to $5. They had racks upon racks of jackets for $5. And here is the biggy, their winter snow bibs were $5. ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/faint.gif)
