I was wondering if we should start a new 2012 Losers thread so that new members don't feel intimidated by the 47 pages we have already acquired this year. Bought batteries for scale while shopping for new one- think I found the one I want.

I've also got a posting of tips on another board for this same issue.

Tips to help to reach your weight goal :
Banning all 'bad' foods
The diet you’re following bans all your favourite foods (chocolate, cheese, ice cream, chips…) and you feel deprived. You might last a couple of weeks, feeling more and more bored with the monotony of your regime—but then you’ll crack. And when you do give in, you end up stuffing yourself with those forbidden foods to make up for days of self-denial.
Cutting out meals to save calories
“Skipping meals can have a negative impact on your metabolism,” says Toronto nutritionist Aviva Allen—your body might start storing extra fat in anticipation of more missed meals. Instead of eating less, consume small, nutrient-dense snacks and meals more often – every three hours is ideal – and try not to eat after seven o’clock at night, when your metabolism is at its slowest.
Eating often also makes it easier to stay on track beacause denying yourself food isn’t a sustainable practice. “The biggest mistake is to think of your diet as a temporary event to reach a specific weight-loss goal,” says Allen. “If you plan to return to your old habits once you’ve reached your goal, the weight will quickly return.”
Committing to the same fitness routine every day
No matter how good the fitness plan, sticking with the exact same routine day after day is hard—and discouraging. In his first book, 5-Factor Fitness, Hollywood trainer Harley Pastnernak recommends a different workout for every day of the week, each focusing on a different body part. Whether you vary the number of reps you do or make a switch from cardio to resistance training, it’s important to vary your routine enough so you don’t get bored. “At least one thing should be different daily,” Pasternak suggests
Resolving to follow the latest fad diet
Fad diets, diets that require you to purchase special food and plans that require you to cut out certain food groups altogether often end up with you right back where you started on the scale. “Stop yo-yo dieting, because eventually your metabolism will conk out from all the up and down and it will be harder to lose weight,” says Joey Shulman, a registered nutritionist. Instead, choose a diet program that works for your lifestyle and work the best parts of it into your routine—even after you’ve lost the weight
Eliminating carbs from your diet
Cutting out food groups means you might be missing out on nutrients you need to lose weight and stay healthy. “Avoid cutting out important food groups such as carbohydrates, for example,” says Allen. “Complex carbohydrates such as whole grains, legumes, and vegetables are important sources of fibre, which is essential for keeping us regular and removing excess cholesterol, fat, and toxins from our bodies.”

Hi All!
Happy New Year! What a good thread to post on the first day of the new year.
I have been into my health lately, since having had a hysterectomy last year due to the beginnings of uterine cancer, and briefly diagnosed with borderline diabetes along with my usual high cholesterol and high blood pressure.
I decided to lose some weight, especially after finding out that one of the risk factors for uterine and other cancers was obesity. Also my borderline diabetes A1C reading was 6.9 in June 2011. My doctor saw "red." He told me that at 190 pounds, I was "waaaay too fat." "You have to lose weight," he told me. I wore a size 16.
To make a long story short, I have worked hard on myself in the last 6 months. I am now 149 pounds, having lost about 41 pounds!! I now wear a size 6 for my pants, and I am in a medium to large for my shirts, or a size 10. My legs look "pencil-like" compared to my prior build before my weight loss.
I have a weight goal for the end of each month: By the end of January 2012, I want to weigh 145 or 146, and so on. My goal is to be about 135 by April 26, 2012, my birthday. I want to be in the middle of the BMI chart for my weight and height.
Best of all, my blood sugars are really low" My A1C was 4.9 in the middle of December. My blood pressure came down, so the doctor decreased my medication by half. My other doctor eliminated my cholesterol medication.
When I return from the gym, I will talk about how I did it, what setbacks or roadblocks to success were thrown my way, and how I am trying to "stay on track." Time for my 45 minutes of daily exercise.......bye for now.

Mizbear I think we need a new thread for those new health goals that we are all going to be having in 2012. I can see this current one getting to 100 pages and no one wanting to go through it all.

Would it be helpful to close/lock this thread? I started it and if I can't do that, I can ask a mod to do it for us. With a final post about the new thread?

do the old threads that no one posts or reads eventually get pushed to the later pages? i don't know if locking will help save the thread for any future reference though so you might send a PM to Moon about it.

I've been MIA for a while. Been studying and working my pt job a lot, so no exercise and somewhat bad food choices. Up 1.5 lbs from my last update in November
update rr234 1/04/12 147.5 (4/11/11 153.5)
After this week, I'll be down to working 1 day a week at the pt, instead of 5. I need to buckle down on the studying and it will also free up time for me to get back on the treadmill.
I would like to get my body fat % down quite a bit. I know the scales aren't accurate, but I'm sick of seeing 34% every time I weigh myself. Whatever the real % is, it's too high. I'm starting yoga 2x a week again on the 17th, walking the dogs more and getting my butt on the treadmill while I watch TV instead of lounging around on the couch.
