a HS classmate of mine invited me to join a town group with "Wineboozled" in the title. basically, you put together a boozy care package for someone else, and ding dong ditch it on their front steps. you list your address (which I wouldn't if this wasn't temporary...) and what you like, and wait. I dropped off a pair this am, which by their reaction posts I managed to perfectly nail. but I also got myself a new treat, may become my go-to this summer. one of the baskets wanted spiked seltzers, and I didn't want to just throw in a case of cheap gross Truly. so I accepted a recommendation from an employee that watched me wander the aisles for a little while. he said this stuff tasted the closest to actual fruit of the selection, and not at all fake like Truly, for instance. I picked up a grapefruit cardamom for the basket, and the blood orange chili for myself. I'm not a grapefruit fan, but the rest of the flavors sound pretty tasty as well. PressThat sounds like fun . May have to start something similar.

I just poured my first drink. Vodka and seltzer. Strawberry flavored tonight. Frozen chicken wings and french fries are in the oven. I'll get takeout tomorrow.

Ooh... grapefruit cardamom sounds delicious.
I had a vodka gimlet on the front porch after work, but now I am finishing the bottle of cabernet I opened last night. Tomorrow is all cocktails because we have a lot of limes and it's going to be 80 degrees.

I would love to grill burgers, but the only ground beef I have is frozen. I like burgers with fresh ground beef. Even better with Sartori cheese inside the burgers. Just yum!! Maybe tomorrow!

I made the Mai tais in a pitcher tonight and I might have gotten them a little strong. I think my lips are numb.

I'm going to have to lay off the daily drinking. It's making me sick. None tonight.

I forgot to post this earlier, but my "wineboozled" surprise was waiting for me when I got back from running a few errands this afternoon. holy shit, that's a lot of stuff! the wine missed the mark (on no planet is riesling a dry wine) but the nips in the hurricane glass are all Pink Whitney and the cans are a sparkling "vodkarita" thing from Absolut that I've never seen before. definitely excited to try those out this week. and that cute bag? starfish?! I have a starfish charm on my medical ID. no way my wine fairy knew that! round 2 opened up tonight after round 1 got everyone. I was one of the last few to get hit today. I will totally pass forward the riesling in another care package. this has been so much fun, especially seeing how excited people.are about the drops. 😁

We like a wine that is a semi-dry Riesling, and it seems true to name. Chateau Grand Traverse, a Michigan wine. The Traverse Bay area is one of those areas with a good terra? (I'm trying to remember this term correctly) for certain wine grapes.

oh nice. I've seen "dry riesling" from WA, Chateau St Michelle maybe? it wasn't dry, but I could handle it way better than a straight out riesling. I'd love to know whether it is a difference in the grapes, or in processing, that makes it less sweet.
basically what I had put up for taste was that I like dry wines, white or red, and vodka seltzer with either the vodka or the seltzer flavored. specifically listed Pink Whitney as a recent fave, and that I don't like chocolate at all for snacks. someone had a lot of fun with mine, thats for sure. 😁

My guess, just from attending a few wine seminars, is that it's the grapes.

Rieslings (or any other sweet wine, generally) have more residual sugar, in the case of riesling to balance the more acidic grape. Hence why sweet wines typically have lower alcohol content. Look for something 11% and above if you want a dry wine.

Whenever I receive red wine, I save it to regift. Or use it in cooking.

Mimosa with steak and eggs for breakfast, a little Pinot Noir with left over lasagna for lunch, and Mai Tai after working in the yard for a couple hours. If I make Quiche for dinner we will have to open some white wine. Too many opportunities to drink with this stay at home stuff.

I'm doing a zoom happy hour tonight, so I opened one of those vodkarita cans. these are tasty! From The Onion. Coworkers On Zoom Trapped In Infinite Loop Of Telling Each Other ‘Oh Sorry, No, Go Ahead’LOS ANGELES—Coworkers at the advertising firm Horizon Group remained trapped in an infinite loop of telling one another “Oh sorry, no, go ahead,” during a morning Zoom teleconference, sources confirmed Monday. “No, no, my bad, definitely go ahead,” said copywriter Lance Reddick, pausing three hours into the apparently endless cycle of apologizing and encouraging a colleague to continue with what they had been saying, only for another few workers to add to the unbreakable pattern by chiming in, quickly cutting themselves off, and asking forgiveness for speaking over anyone else. “I feel like I interrupted you. Sorry about that—what were you trying to say?” At press time, after a brief silence, all 20 coworkers on the call were shouting over each other in a deafening cacophony. I bought three four-packs of beer from a local brewery today because on Mondays they donate a portion of sales to local charities. Good excuse for me! Ordered around 1, delivered by 5. :-) Beer 1 - rosé ale (crisp, bubbly, raspberry it says) Beer 2 - key lime gose brewed with sea salt Beer 3 - tropical ale brewed with coconut and pineapple.
We shall see how they are this weekend when I imbibe, but I've heard good things!
Getting a prosecco delivery on Thursday. Bought limes, lemons, and an orange at the grocery store today. Oh - and blackberries for some bourbon smashes and sours. I am ready for a three-day drinking weekend!

It's a gorgeous sunny day here after 3 days of heavy rain, cold temps and gloom. Time for a cocktail on the porch. And according to hoops on the sending kids back to school thread I'm already drunk and/or a drunk

I have to wait until after I workout to drink, but shortly after I will be pouring a cocktail. Well, after I shower anyway.

I'm about to log off work as soon as I know a scan is received. then, shower off the sunscreen from today and settle in on the deck with a cocktail. if I can find a shaker, I think a Cosmopolitan is in order.
ETA: yes! I found my pair of shakers! and a box that was all the paperwork from my kitchen counter when I was packing up. so, we aren't on the deck, but I do have a Cosmopolitan. I'm sifting through mail from April, and paying bills that probably are a few days late by now. oops.
