Our wine collection is growing too. We keep buying to "help support" our favorite wineries during this "crisis".

I'm on the patio with my 2nd Aperol Spritz. Why haven't I been having these all summer? I forgot how nice and light they are. I first had one on a trip to Croatia.

an Austrian coworker of mine drank those the night we all went out last summer when I was over there. I'd never heard of it before. I think it is an orangey cordial, right?

Aperol is a slightly bitter orange aperitif from Italy. The spritz is made with prosecco and club soda. My recipe was 3 parts prosecco, 2 parts Aperol and 1 part soda. Served over ice with a slice of orange.

that's a nice stash there. I see a Four Roses bottle, I'd never heard of that label until a wine and whiskey tasting a couple years ago. I loved it! funny, last night I was catching up on The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, and that was the label used in the bar her ex-DH opened up.

We cracked open a bottle of cab from the case that TD bought last week. It's quite nice, definitely a keeper so am glad there are 11 bottles left. I hate buying wine that I have not tried myself.

Tractor is my spirit animal! Seriously, ever try brown sugar bourbon or 43 liqueur? Nope, but at one distillery the staff person was telling me about brown sugar bourbon pie. I’m going to look up the recipe. We had a great time, even though it was 90+ degrees most of the week. Samples are restricted to 6, 1/2 oz pours. I found I really like single barrel bourbon, so that constitutes about 1/2 of what we bought. The other half is stuff my wife liked.

Try the brown sugar bourbon. Or 'BSB' for short. Trust me!

I poured myself a glass of pinot grigio to finish off an open bottle in my fridge, after opening the estimate for the surgery my injured golden retriever needs in the coming weeks. ugh. for those familiar, she could do either a TTA or a TPLO for a torn ligament in her back leg. the less invasive procedure is coming in at $4-5k. well, I decided I wanted another glass, and opened a bottle that came in one of my recent boozy care packages. I have to say, I remember Yellow Tail pinot grigio being a lot less harsh on the palette back when I was buying it as a broke recent college grad. it definitely needs the ice I like in a white wine on a hot day, wow.

If I drink a half bottle of wine at lunch, should I skip my happy hour cocktail?

My kid actually posted my convo with her on FB one day. She wanted to quit some activity she was in during HS. I gave her this long speech about how we don't quit and she should always finish what she started. Then because I have the attention span of a goldfish, I said "Speaking of which, there's a bottle of rum downstairs that I didn't finish. TTFN." She wasn't impressed. She was amused.

I've been limiting my drinking beginning last week, after our trip down the shore/my week off work left me feeling bloated and gross. Lots of beach beers during our four days away couple with lots of holiday beverages later that week. I've been doing really good! I've even stopped smoking each evening, because why not. Usually our allowable drinking days are Thurs-Sun. Thursdays we've been going to my neighbor's for happy hour on her deck, she kindly poured my seltzer into a wine glass so it feels like I'm having something. Friday and Saturday I split a bottle of wine, though Saturday I also made an Aviation because I had a lemon on its last leg and you can't waste good citrus you bought explicitly for cocktails. Sunday I allowed myself one Dogfish Head Sea Quench. I'm going to follow this for at least another week. There are so many good goses coming out right now so I've been collecting them so I can imbibe in August when we go to our friend's lake house.

We had fajitas for dinner and I opened a big bottle of 3 pepper hard cider I've had for awhile. From Seattle Cider Co. and made with jalapeño, poblano and habenero peppers. It was a little spicier than I remembered , but went with dinner great.

We went to my sister in law's to drop off cookies. She ordered a carafe of margaritas with dinner so I had margaritas.
