In the interest of calorie reduction, DH bought some Corona Premier last week. Let's just say he was delighted when finishing the last of them last night. I tried a sip last weekend. Nope. We're having our annual solstice party tomorrow, and I wanted to find a shot which would utilize what we have on hand (years ago my need to expand my frugality is what brought me to YM in the first place). Found this: Purple Hooter ShooterOur neighbors also when I make butterscotch schnapps and whiskey shooters. Should be fun. I'll report back. And yes, we follow DD or stay overnight rules. Have a fantastic weekend, everyone. Hiya, everyone! Welp, the first shot of the evening was the Purple Hooters. Guest feedback included it tasted like grape (I used raspberry liqueur as the recipe called for), tasted like cough syrup, etc. So, nope, it won't be added to the drink menu. And the butterscotch whiskey shooters went over okay. As the night progressed, people wanted different shooters, so someone mentioned Snakebites and googled the recipe for me. Traditionally made with Yukon Jack honey, I made them with Beam. Well, I was not told about the honey ingredient, so you can imagine.... Duly noted! chiver78, regarding the Premier, I found it to be meh. As in, too weak to bother with. I no longer drink beer, but from what I can remember, Michelob Ultra was okay. Back in the 90's my beer of choice was MGD Light. I did have my first Truly orange yesterday for hair of the dog with extra vodka of course. Nice and light for a muggy day after. I made breakfast burritos at 2 AM, and the last of the guests left at 3.

yeah, I'm not much of a beer drinker anymore either. I just get too full from it now. but on a day better suited for the surface of the sun, a chilled Corona sounded like a good idea. lol... good to know I'm not alone in thinking it was just okay. I've been doing the seltzers with extra vodka the past couple summers as well. my new favorite is Blood Orange Chili. looks like they are available in your state, too. definitely try it if you come across it.

I love beer. I need to stay away from it though. It doesn't work out that way sometimes.

A regular long neck w/ a lime wedge skillfully shoved inside. Yummmm. That blood orange chili sounds delightful. If my fave liquor store doesn't carry it, I'll ask them to ship some in. They love when I come to them with new to them product ideas.

I bought 3 bottles of white wine from the wrong winery by accident at the grocery store. I wasn't paying attention to the label close enough. I was trying to buy the ones we can get money back on from a local winery. ( To help keep demand up in groceries for their products.) Fortunately (subconsciously?) it is a very nice Pinot Gris from another favorite place that we haven't had in years. Drinking a bottle now, and yep, it's very nice. I took it outside on the patio, under the new umbrella, with the lap top, on a beautiful 80 degree afternoon.

On my second glass of wine - a nice Cabernet. Today was a much better day than yesterday, so I’m celebrating with a 2nd glass 🍷

Stuck inside due to heat. AC off for energy credit. Just chilling instead of getting any work done. White wine in afternoon. Cosmo at happy hour now. Planning on red wine with dinner (beef kabobs and baked potatoes) and a chocolate martini later. Hopefully it cools down enough to take the martini outside after sundown. I have a bunch of plastic martini glasses for outside on the patio. Drinking when bored may not be the best plan.

Tried my first lime Truly Tuesday night. I found it to be a bit harsh, almost what furniture polish might taste like? Not at all like the tasty orange flavor. DH said the Truly lemonade flavors are good. I'll try those next.

I'm not a fan of Truly seltzers. I can't get past the sweeteners that just taste fake, with that brand and a few others. I got back from dropping off a boozy care package and opened up a can of Barefoot peach/nectarine hard seltzer. these are little cans, and it's a wine-based seltzer. it's on the sweeter end of my taste preference, but it actually isn't that bad - 2g of sugar, 70cal in an 8.4oz can. would be nice as a spritzer, too. it's not too fizzy on its own.

I am sitting in my office alone, and I have a 3 liter bag of Red Cat wine here. A client gave it to me. I am so tempted right now.

I actually just started in with my first bottle. I don't have to teach for a while. I'll cut myself off to make sure I'm sober before I start.

so my latest 'wineboozle fairy' got me a 12pk mixed set of these seltzers. other than the blood orange chili that I love (that isn't in the variety packs) I have tried the blackberry hibiscus and found it meh on its own. as a mixer for vodka, though? tasty. today, I cracked open a new flavor when I got back from an errands run. I would buy a 12pk of just this one. very tasty!

DH and I brought a Truly lemonade variety 12-pack to a social function over the weekend. The weather was hot and a bit muggy with area thunderstorms, so I found them to be refreshing. I tried a strawberry and a mango. In contrast, I tried a friend's Mike Hard strawberry lemonade while out on the trail (we were working cows). They were good, but very sticky, which means lots of sugar. No bueno.

My DH had a tooth pulled today. Therefore, I am already drinking. First up is a glass of Pinot Grigio while I sit on my balcony.

I want to make some Sangria and sit on the patio. But it's only 63 degrees outside! (at 5pm) This is ridiculous for July 1st. So I'm having a whiskey sour and watching the news.
I've been watching cocktail tutorials on YouTube and want to try some new thing. A gin gimlet or a Manhattan. I meant to get bitters today to try the Manhattan, but I forgot. The videos even make martinis look good and I know I would hate one. Although I didn't know there was such a thing a a "wet" martini before. Gin and a sweeter vermouth. I might try it.

you don't have to have a classic martini to use the fun glasses, though. I miss my fun glassware, it's all packed for now. but I love a good strong Cosmopolitan, or any number of fruity vodka drinks. what sort of flavors do you like? I will find you a good recipe I bought a deck of cards about 10y ago when my college roommate got married, on the cruise ship where we were doing a 7day itinerary. each card in the deck has the recipe for one of the martinis served at the martini bar where I bought it. the drink I ordered at the same time was orange vodka, Grand Marnier, and a splash of orange juice. so tasty! I took a page out of Iggy aka IG 's book this afternoon. the pups and I just got back from a 2h drive in the air conditioned car, and I'm now sitting here waiting on the Instant Pot to cook chicken for their dinner. I cracked open an ice cold Corona, and spilled lime juice down the side of the bottle as I not-so-skillfully shoved the lime wedge down the neck. I'm clearly out of practice.

I'm a big fan of classic cocktails and tend to stick with those - gimlets, daiquiris, manhattans, old fashioneds, etc. Simple ingredients and always delicious! We are about to have a pre-dinner caipirinha on the porch - cachaca (Brazilian rum) with muddled sugar and lime.

Giving me just the right amount of what I need.

Partner is back at the office this week in DC, they are on a rotating schedule to give people a week at office then 2 weeks WFH. I’m doing paperwork from home. So my lunch today was basically half a batch of oatmeal cookies and an IPA. Yeah, poster child for productive quarantine worker, not today.

I bought the Truly lemonade variety pack last night. Dumped the can in a knock off Yeti cup and added some Deep Eddy's lemon vodka. It was much better than the other one I had.

So I bought bitters today and made myself a Manhattan cocktail. It's a little strong for my taste (no surprise, it's all booze and no mix) but pretty good. In general I like sour based cocktails better. I also got club soda and small bottles of Prosecco, so I can make Aperol Spritz tomorrow when the weather turns nicer.

The party is here!
Late this afternoon, we went to the club for a late lunch/early dinner when we got back from Seattle. As we walked in, the manager said “I have your wine, Mr. TD, would you like me to put it in your car?” TD handed over his keys, and we went to the dining room. My response was....what the f$&# did you do?
We get out to the car and there are 2 cases of wine sitting in the back seat. Did I mention that we currently have a wine rack that contains 120 bottles, and have 2 cases sitting on the floor as overflow? Ok, make that now 4 cases of overflow.....
