Over 107,000 dead. Let's not forget what else is going on in our country. DD1 & I were talking about this just last night. The rioting has mostly shoved Covid out of the news cycle. I'm not usually much into conspiracies but I've got to say this is pretty convenient. Trump can't threaten a virus with tweets and get any result. Virus there-don't care. He can, however, spit his venom all over Twitter to foment civil war ...

trump will probably sign an Executive Order demanding The New York Times be shut down for publishing this. Malaria Drug Promoted by Trump Did Not Prevent Covid Infections, Study FindsThe first carefully controlled trial of hydroxychloroquine given to people exposed to the coronavirus did not show any benefit. The malaria drug hydroxychloroquine did not prevent Covid-19 in a rigorous study of 821 people who had been exposed to patients infected with the virus, researchers from the University of Minnesota and Canada are reporting on Wednesday. The study was the first controlled clinical trial of hydroxychloroquine, a drug that President Trump has repeatedly promoted and recently taken himself. Conducted in the United States and Canada, this trial was the first to test whether the drug could prevent illness in people who have been exposed to the coronavirus. This type of study, in which patients are picked at random to receive either an experimental treatment or a placebo, is considered the most reliable way to measure the safety and effectiveness of a drug. The participants were health care workers and people who had been exposed at home to ill spouses, partners or parents. “The take-home message for the general public is that if you’re exposed to someone with Covid-19, hydroxychloroquine is not an effective post-exposure, preventive therapy,” the lead author of the study, Dr. David R. Boulware, from the University of Minnesota, said in an interview. Complete article here: Malaria Drug Promoted by Trump Did Not Prevent Covid Infections, Study Finds

The heaviest Trump red states are all taking a beating on new cases. Arizona plus the confederacy, Will this make a difference in November? I guess we’ll see. If Texas and Georgia flip he’s burnt toast.

Arizona is in a horrible spot. Almost a 24% positive rate and ICUs at capacity.

Kemp hasn't done anything in Ga. My DH has to go to Tallahassee in the early am for a VA appt. I dread him going cause he has at least 3 underlying conditions. Some beaches have closed in Fl. & I think DeSantis closed down the bars again. But that still leaves inside eating at less than full capacity....and we saw what happened with Pence at the Baptist church on Sunday...100 in the choir with no masks. Just read earlier today that Houston ICUs are full & they have quit reporting so folks who have other emergencies will still go to the hospital...like a heart attack. And now we have the mutation that is 10 times more infectious. How many more will die now?

No reason to think that this will continue to spread. The president said so, and we know he knows everything!

You don't think closing the waterparks was enough to stop the outbreak? 😏 SUre, why not. No reason to think that this will continue to spread. The president said so, and we know he knows everything! And then there's the "telling people to wear a mask" is a "double edged sword" thing our President said. I'm still trying to figure out what the 2 edges are? Encouraging wearing masks decreases the risk of getting/spreading the virus (that's the good edge) The bad edge is, like, what exactly? - Masks are ugly?
- Masks are inconvenient?
- Masks take away people's "freedom" (kinda like having to bathe regularly and use deodorant and not being naked in public takes away people's freedom or like how stopping at stop signs and being forced to drive the right way down one way streets takes away people's freedom? I'm alittle unsure about this one... cause if I could have been running around NAKED! instead of suffering for years with the uncomfortable feeling of clothes... because it was my RIGHT and FREEDOM to do so I would have been NAKED!!! for decades at this point.)
- Encouraging mask usage at this late date is a open declaration that Trump was wrong?
- Trump hasn't figured out how to profit from making masks - too many individuals making and selling them - and he can't do an Executive Order to regulate the manufacture of masks to just the companies he will profit from?
What is Trump's "double edged sword" comment a euphamism for? That he can't back mask wearing because it will upset his nationalist and white supremacist friends/backers?

It's still in the opening post? That one doesn't tell serious cases. Serious cases? As opposed to asymptomatic? Non-hospitalized?

That one doesn't tell serious cases. Serious cases? As opposed to asymptomatic? Non-hospitalized? Exactly. According to that site 8% of the cases in Canada are serious/critical.

For you guys it's more like 1% if my math is right. 16,038 serious/critical cases out of 1,560.795 That is a benefit of all the extra asymptomatic cases you are finding because of the massive testing. It makes the numbers look better. Trump just doesn't know how to sell them.

if you are trying to ignore the numbers, selling them is the last thing you want to do.

And that's in what, 4 months of collecting data.... and the virus is still circulating and infecting people? That doesn't look better... it looks scarier. (the only way Trump will get a break is if the virus mutates and becomes less deadly. )

I'll say again... that number for us hasn't changed from 15-16K in months... and still 3-6K people die a week. It is not accurate. LOTS of states have not published data on hospitalizations etc. consistently.
