game day food tonight. my contribution to the party is chips, guac, and strawberry pico de gallo. the hostess said she's got a trio of stromboli, chili, mac 'n cheese, and a few other things.
ETA:the turkey bacon cheddar stromboli was fantastic, I'm so full. I need to figure out pizzadough, bc I would totally make that myself.

Saturday night we ordered Texas Roadhouse. $50 with tip.
Sunday day/night snack foods. I'm making buffalo chicken dip, pepperoni rolls and chocolate chip cookies. We ordered 2 chicken bacon bbq quesadillas, wings, onion rings, chicken fajita tots and a bowl of half maryland crab soup, half cream of crab soup for DH who is starving. $80 for all that with tip. There will be leftovers.
We are eating at home Monday night for sure.

I'm going here tonight to meet friends and watch college hockey. first time going, they renovated during COVID and opened a few months back under new ownership. I'll probably get the Cobb salad (w/o blue cheese) or maybe a veggie burger w/side salad. I doubt fries are chiver-friendly here, with all the fried seafood (and they weren't under the previous ownership). that's not a deal-breaker, but I will def have to ask about it. ETA: I didn't end up staying here. the bartenders refused to put the sound on, even after the manager assured me that would be the case. so, I ended up at my former dive bar near my old house. it was renovated during COVID and reopened with new management. I met some fellow alumni from my college, who just happened to come in and gravitate toward where I was sitting b/c the game was on near me. I also had a couple drinks and ordered a bar pizza. this isn't my pizza, but this is South Shore bar pizza style. thin crust, usually ~12", with sauce basically painted on the crust and down the edges to allow the cheese at the crust edge to crisp into what's known as "lace". I've got leftovers.

Monday night Valentines dinner, grilled NY strip steaks and baked sweet potatoes. Chocolate lava cakes for dessert.
Steaks were $19. Maybe $4-5 for the rest?
DH bought the potatoes and I had all the dessert ingredients on hand. All pantry items that get regularly restocked as needed.

Steak - $5 Bell Pepper - $1 Onion - $0.50 Shrimp - $9 Garlic & Herbs - $1 Strawberry Ice Cream - $2 Total - $18.50 2 servings, $9.25/serving
This was an expensive at home meal for us but it was delicious and I love knowing it would have been at least $100 at a restaurant.

We had smoked sausage, fordhook limas, butter/parsley potatoes & salad. Desert was Hershey's kisses for me, have no idea what DH will come up with for himself. I need to bake something tomorrow...maybe a cake. Haven't had one of those in ages.

I don't have any dollar costs to post but I did use up stuff rather than throw it out. I stewed the last of the cabbage with a lonely tomato, pan grilled the last two hot dogs in the freezer and nuked some little potatoes before they sprouted. It was a tasty meal and saved stuff from the garbage.

light dinner tonight- roasted Caprese salad with garlic toast. basically, roast the tomato and mozz slices, then dress as usual. for me, that means capers, basil, paper-thin sliced red onion, and balsamic glaze. yum!

I have some pizza sauce to use up, but not enough mozzarella to cover a pizza. I do have ricotta, though, so I'll just make a calzone. broccoli, spinach, mushroom and all of the garlic.

I bought a rotisserie chicken Thursday night for $7.99. Today was our 3rd supper with it. Thursday was 1/4 chicken each with cole slaw, Friday was chicken salad in lettuce wraps and today was chicken soup. We have soup for a couple of days of lunches. All the other ingredients for meals came to about $6 so they breakdown to about $1.40 serving.

I reheated some of last night's calzone for dinner. but lunch was fabulous, out with an out of town friend. she had a fisherman's platter (more than half of which is in my fridge for her take with her, out of my house lol... I had a Caesar salad with grilled salmon. I also have a takeout box, I'll refresh the salad with some fresh shredded lettuce tomorrow.

We ate lunch in the little town today, about the second time since covid started. Then I was really sleepy so took a nap. Hubs went to town and brought home a pizza for he and DD and a chef salad for me. So, everyone was happy.

Discovered I probably need to use up my green cabbage soon. The outer leaves are starting to go. Ended up making the pork smoked sausage I bought on sale with cabbage and onion for dinner. Sad to report that the ruby port I bought under stress in spring of 2021 is almost gone. Made a nice, sweet finish to dishes like this and gave me a sip or two to drink with it as well.
Up now because I went to bed early, was in bed about 2 to 3 hours and then got back up because of a dream ... and not finishing my hydration. So, drinking more now but should have headed back to bed already.

tonight, I'll reheat the last of the calzone and pizza sauce for dipping. I made pesto this morning, so I'll add some of that as well.
my batch cook for the week will get assembled tomorrow. today I made unseasoned pulled pork in the crockpot (~$4 for the pork roast). tomorrow I'll assemble the carnitas casserole. that will be 6 portions to eat over the course of the week. I'll end up with some pulled pork to freeze as well.
I need to cook two BSCB with a sell by date of tomorrow. I may just saute them, simply seasoned with garlic powder and black pepper. I can use them in salads or tossed into pasta or whatever during the week.

I made fried rice with leftover red rice and a Thai BBQ chicken wing left over from work-bought lunch on Friday. Added half an onion and an egg along with some spices. My cost might be $0.75? There's enough fried rice for 2 lunches.

I steamed some halibut my parents gave me and made a fried cauliflower rice. The cauliflower was good but not the fish. I'm not sure if I'm that bad at cooking fish or it was freezer burnt or both. Oh well, the fish was free to me.

Dinner tonight Barbecue on buns
And I like these seasonings, called Urban Accents, haven't used them for a while. This one is balsamic & roasted onion. I drizzled avocado oil on cut up veggies: brussel sprouts, carrots, bell peppers, small potatoes. Sprinkle a tablespoon of the seasoning mix over them and stir to distribute, then bake for 30 minutes or until tender. Adds a different flavor. They have a lot of varieties.
I bought some deviled egg potato salad from Baesler's, really like that stuff and we also had some cottage cheese.
Dessert tonight is just a yellow cake with Fluffy White Frosting. It's simple, add half a cup of boiling water to the small box of mix, then beat 5 to 7 minutes. Makes a really good frosting, you can even use it to make divinity. I may try that one day. Easy meal tonight and a touch of something different.
I baked a piece of salmon but was too full to eat it. I didn't have any barbecue but filled up on veggies.

Managed to fry up ground turkey for tacos...so I had 1 last night and will be working on tacos or nachos for dinner the next few days.
I figure by the end of the week I will go ahead and bake some brown rice and do a stir fry with shrimp. The leftover rice will than be turned into fried rice. Getting my craving for Chinese out of the way without having to buy Chinese.

Will make some seasoned ground beef, some type of potatoes, and a vegetable for dinner tonight. We both like fried cabbage, if I fix that, will add another veggy for DD, she likes spinach.

I ended waiting on the BSCB til yesterday. had friends over for Taco Tuesday, shredded chicken was one option, ground beef the other.
tonight, I'm a little sick of Mexican seasonings between last night's tacos and the carnitas casserole I've been picking at this week. I think I'll roast some veggies and toss with some pasta and homemade pesto for something different.

I need to take a day and make 6 dozen tamales. Then make another batch a bit later. We really like them and home-made are sooooo much better. We can easily eat a dozen for dinner as I don't make real big ones, so they steam well.
