Every social security recipient will get a check (or direct deposit) whether they've filed a return or not. Does he get SS? If so, he'll also get the $1200.

Yes, our elder care attorney is saying they are trying to figure out what to do with the SS money if someone like MIL gets it. Quite a problem. She can't keep it.

I'm wondering what will happen to homeless people. They don't earn so don't pay taxes but they are certainly needy and at risk. I just hate to think that there will be those truly in need who might be missed. I know the logistics are a nightmare but it still makes me kinda sick to think about.

It was a bit of a shock when we first moved here, how many homeless live on or near the beach. Often, they have small encampments hidden in the wooded areas. How they keep from getting bitten by the snakes here, I don't know. But yes, those folks are truly needy, and could use more than a little help.

Has anyone heard how the stimulus payment will affect those on Medicaid? I posted this on the CARE Act thread but thought someone might know. If my father gets a payment it will put him about $500 over the annual limit. And depending on the timing he may not be able to keep it if his long term care application is accepted. I'm fine with that. He is getting care on the taxpayer's dime and it's only fair the government recoups what it can. It's just he shouldn't get both penalized with share of cost AND not be able to use that money to offset the share. What I've read is that asset limits will not be affected. Everyone will receive a check that is a legal American who files taxes or receives benefits from Social Security. The only exception are people who owe back child support. They won't receive anything until caught up.

I don't trust that. Just like VA is to reduce the pension to $90 and hasn't for MIL and many others so we are jumping through hoops trying to move the money around. We will likely have payback come from us. I can see it going to the state and then VA demanding it back. I don't trust any of them.

Mom got to take Dad's bandage off today. He had some tissue removed from his forehead on Tuesday, to be on the safe side. A biopsy about 4 weeks ago showed basel cells and they thought they got it all at the time but decided to be safer than sorry and take out some more cells. Stitches come out next week. Dad's stitches came out on Sat. My younger sister and her husband are both nurses so they came over and took care of it. Plus they had a chance to visit with Mom and Dad.

Well Dad decided and he is gone. He left on Saturday. RIP I am still swinging between numb and a crying mess. I am so very sorry. 4 months since dad left us and I am still numb and sometimes a crying mess. It takes time. Hubs passed in 2008 and mother in 2015. I still tear up on occasion, but those occasions are outnumbered these days by the times a memory brings me laughter or a smile. Loss is so hard. I'm thankful for memory.

I'm so sorry snapdragonI've seen the child support thing in articles but I haven't searched any actual government sites looking for it. I sort of hope it's true, but dread hearing about it if it is, because youngest's mother will be sure to tell him about it. XH might or might not get his, the kid is 23 now and I have no idea how long they hunt for that money when the state wasn't spending their money on the kid.
