I've been struggling a bit today. My best friend from high school passed last week. A good friend's son was killed in a car accident two day ago. And my dad is in the hospital with covid. He's doing OK, not on a ventilator or anything, but I just can't shake that "bad things come in threes" thought from my head. DH has been trying to help me stay positive. We're going away tomorrow and I just feel like something is going to happen. I'm not going to cancel our trip, but I wish I could get rid of the nagging in my head. That is rough, buystoys! I am so sorry!

We did make it up to Maine in the end. DH couldn't get himself ready to go until 4:00, and I was more than ready to call it quits when he rallied. Then en route he got ill, vomiting in the last hour, probably (I suspect) from medications on an empty stomach combined with long travel. Tough night. He's resting right now. Probably should not have come, but I am glad to be here. It seems clear that DH will need surgery once we get back. That could have him laid up for several more weeks. We'll see. I repeat, I am glad to be here. I am glad you made it to Maine, finnime! I hope you can both get some rest after such a hard trip there and then enjoy yourselves as much a s possible!

<HUGS> for buystoys. Hope the trip, and seeing some new scenery will help. Seriously, I would LOVE to do a road trip right now, but the places I want to go to just aren't handling Covid safely right now. finnime, even with the late start, I'm glad you're getting a little escape. Enjoy!

Yes, we went away for a couple of days and I'm back. My mind is in a much better place. Dad is home, needs O2 on demand, but is feeling better. Mom has it and is also doing better. They're in for a long recovery due to their ages and health conditions, but both seem to be rallying so far. My sister is feeling better as well. So far, her DH hasn't gotten it and their son is/has been staying away from home quarantining with his girlfriend. Both of them are OK so far as well.

I'm glad things are looking up, buystoys . We got back from Maine very late Monday night. It was a wonderful break. It was almost perfect, except that DH ended up being hospitalized for two nights after we got there for persistent vomiting that led to dehydration. I called an ambulance for him. But the hospital was excellent and he recovered from what was determined to be a virus. My sister came up and then, when she left, my brother came up for the day. Early each morning I took Franklin the Dog to the beach. Dogs are permitted before 8 a.m. during the summer season. He and I both loved it. The weather there was great: warm but not hot, much lower humidity than here in the mid-Atlantic. I am so grateful for my brother, who owns the house in Maine.

Aside from DH's hospital stay, it sounds like the trip to Maine did you a world of good. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I got visits from 3 butterflies while working in the yard. I have decided they were my husband and my parents coming to visit me. One was feeding on a plant right in front of me. It was lovely.🦋🦋🦋

Today's visitors were a goldfinch pair. I've decided they were my parents again. They were both avid bird people.

We're moving from summer's hell to fall, and I'm feeling . . . better. It's weird having this reverse SADD. It seems almost everyone I know feels increasingly down as the days shorten and summer flowers fold up. But for me, the change in temperature and daylight is energizing. Early summer can give me a sort of manic, unpleasant charged-up feeling. But now begins a sort of peacefulness. The dead of winter is cozy.

I'm glad you get a reprieve from the negative feelings you get in the summer. It's such a relief to start feeling better again, isn't it? It's nice to have the extreme heat let up. Although I do wish it stayed light longer. I prefer driving during the day.

finnimeI'm so glad you were finally able to get away for a bit! I was sorry your DH was in the hospital though. It seems like you got a much needed break. Yay!

I found out yesterday that my psychiatrist/psychotherapist for the past 20 years died Thursday. I am bereaved. He saved my life more than once; depression sucks that much. This is going to be rough. I will sorely miss him.

I don't know if you are still seeing him, but it still hurts. I will feel the same way when I hear that one of my early therapists, who I saw over 20 years, passes. He is in his late 70's and has had cancer twice. Last I heard he was in remission. There is no way I can prepare myself for the loss. Like your therapist, this man is the reason I am still on this earth.

Yes. I saw him last 2 weeks ago in a Zoom appointment. He always swore he'd practice until he died, and so he did. I have absolutely no idea how to find anyone who could begin to replace him.
He was a dear friend as well as doctor in some very challenging times in my life.

Fin - so sorry for your loss. I think my therapist has breast cancer as she took a health leave of absence and then has continued to be sporadic. I really should schedule for Dec and Jan to combat SAD but I'm being stubborn bc DH needs to see someone too but he refuses. He's mentioned twice now that I need to make appts. Just makes me mad that he thinks it's all about my trouble when he's clearly currently more depressed than me at the moment.

Right now I really miss Dr. S. This is so harsh. My body feels heavy and aches. I knew, and he certainly knew, he didn't have long. He was well into his 80's and fighting leukemia. But I did believe he would have another year.

<<sigh>> Got to spend another $25 copay to adjust my meds again. This is getting tiresome. Maybe I should just spend some time in a psych ward and get it over with.
