I had my first appointment with the new therapist today. It went really well. She's trained in EMDR which I've never used until today. I found it very helpful just for the quick time she had me practice it. I'll be seeing her every week for a while.

It really is an interesting article. One I probably would have never seen, if you didn't post it. Thank you.

Stumbled onto Mayim Bialik's youtube series/podcast. They are focused on mental health and the first one is about anxiety. Some good info in it. And yes, she's a celeb, but she also has a PhD in neuroscience. Will be following them to see what else she does.

It's ironic that my January hasn't been too bad. However, DH is struggling. I knew the anniversary of his emergency surgery this week would be tough. But, it's feeling like he could get stuck there. I've asked him to get a counselor and we have good insurance coverage for it. He doesn't want to which bothers me since I've done so much work on myself and then get stuck within his issues sometimes.
He's ready to get back to work and frustrated with holding out for the vaccine when the distribution has been so clunky. He's eligible for health reasons and because he's a teacher, but we've signed him up everywhere with no response. I've been scouring local fb pages and coming up with numbers to call but they're all busy dial tones and he won't bother to keep calling.

That's doubly hard, azucena, when he won't help himself. Would he go if you made an appointment for him to a counselor? And for the vaccine--some people I know have reported they were able to get it when they expanded their search area. A friend in Pennsylvania drove 50 miles for it. It might not work, but it's maybe worth a shot. I imagine he does feel stuck. I know I would. This just goes on and on, and the closer we get to the finish the bigger the obstacles seem to getting there. I'm glad your own January has been a good one.

finnime - me making the appt opens up the dynamic of him relying on me as a caretaker that has been unhealthy for us in the past. I did realize a couple of days ago that we could sign up in other areas which seems wrong but most aren't limiting by county and all are asking for address so I'm not hiding anything. I did put him on several 'new' lists yesterday and today. He's willing, able, and available to drive a few hours away if that's what it takes. He keeps saying that his doctor will call him when it's his turn which I know isn't right as it's clearly the health systems/hospitals with the only availability right now. I've told him to watch his email and phone for appt notices and let him know that I've gone beyond local so he knows not to ignore them.

I understand on the caretaker thing. After over a year of being unable due to foot and ankle surgeries and infections to drive, my DH had a hard time even remembering to do so. Now I've begun asking him to drive me when errands need doing. It gets him out of the house, which is very important when you're isolating.

azucena, it's difficult to just watch someone who won't take the options available. You are smart enough to not take on that job for him. Good for you! It's hard to stand by and you are doing it. Kudos to you, lady! finnime, I didn't drive anywhere for 1 1/2 years. It took me some time to get used to it again. Now, I like to be the driver again. DH says he also likes it, but I won't let the dog in my new car.

This is just my assumption, but I think they ask for addresses 1- For verification purposes 2- In case they have unclaimed doses to give and need someone who can get there right away.
I guess everyone feels this way, but I sure will be glad when 'Rona isn't the main focus every day and we can get on with our lives, somewhat normally.

Hi Kids! We figured we needed a new fur baby, since Bad Boy Puppy had crossed the Rainbow Bridge awhile back. With COVID, and being stuck at home so much, a new dog felt like a necessity. I'm not good at posting "real" pictures on this forum, but I found a picture of a puppy that looks a lot like our new boy, "Speedy". He makes me laugh (he's full of mischief), and I thought you might like to see a puppy that looks a lot like him:

Furbabies are the best and that one is darn cute.
My daughter asked me why someone doesn't make a miniature cat so we can live in the kitten phase. I said that was a good question.
DH got his annual blood work back. He's deficient on vitamin d, b12, and testosterone. He usually has to supplement d, b12 and often iron. I need to tell him to just constantly take d and b12 as it won't hurt anything.
The testosterone is new. He has a teleappt with the dr next week to discuss. We've never supplemented that one before. Wondering about the side effects. I know it must be effecting his mood.

I've known a few guys who took testosterone supplements. I've never heard any complaints and they all still use it religiously. So maybe your DH will feel better, if he tries it. I hope so.

Thank toomuch. Good to hear good experiences. I've started my question list for his doctor.
It's still surprising to me how much major surgery takes out of people even though we have been thru it so many times.
Other than his mood, his lingering issue is some pretty severe acne which seems to be an issue 8 to 16 months after his surgeries. I'd always figured that was from hormone surges towards the end of recovery so this test result is throwing me for a loop.
Waiting and watching for vaccines is not helping. He's not reading the posts here and on FB where people are saying you have to call and call. So I have fallen into caretaker role signing him up everywhere and texting him phone numbers and making some calls myself. I don't like that he won't put in the same effort, but it's in our family's interest to get this done asap.

I've heard that in some areas you can sign up on a list for any extra, or ungiven (no show) vaccines they have at the end of the day. Is that a possibility where you're at? I agree, it's irritating to have to be the caretaker of an adult, who chooses not to do things. But like you said, this is serious and it affects more than just him. I'm glad you see that and aren't being stubborn, just because you can. Hugs♡

So we talked with the doctor and learned that once you start testosterone supplements, you usually don't stop. We're opting to re-test to see what levels are one month later just to be sure. Then, he needs to decide between shots (think similar to progesterone for pregnancy so not terrible but not great) or cream which then means we have to be super careful that he doesn't get it on anything that might touch me or the girls. Not sure if ins will pay for cream but it seems to work better in that it's more steady. Not great news because he's awfully tired of having lingering issues and neither of us wants to see him on something forever since we're only 42.

Paddling my canoe with one oar, going in circles. Not my usual major depression, this is congruent depression, in response to the trigger that is the endless pandemic and all it's wrought. I'm lonely for my sister and brothers and son. Having a hard time doing the things I plan.
How are you doing?

I'm doing better now that I have a therapist again. She's really good and we've clicked well.
I did miss a couple of weeks with the weather and I noticed it. So I'm going every week for a while to get "caught up" on therapy. It makes such a difference in my outlook.

Paddling until I get my 2nd vaccine. I can't wait for a proper haircut.
Now that this pandemic has been going on for a year, I just want it over and I know it won't happen like that.
I'm still lonely as can be.
My therapist saves me ever other week and gets me through the next two weeks.

I've been struggling for a while now due in part to DH, who is in the throes of his own depression. He fell a couple of months ago taking out the garbage on the back steps. He didn't mention it to me and didn't feel pain at the time. Over a week later he began to feel more and more pain walking until it was excruciating. Went to his orthopedic surgeon who diagnosed Tranchator bursitis and gave him a cortisone shot. Didn't do any good; one week later he want back. (I'm driving during all this time since he really can't. He'd been using a walker to get the 15 feet to the bathroom and groaning with awful pain.) Surgeon ordered an MRI. A few days after that the test results show the bursitis plus torn muscle and large, deep hemotoma just below his butt. Orthopedic surgeon explains there's nothing he can do. I set up a teledoc appointment with his PCP and she orders pain killers, 3 days at a time, then a week at a time. Gradually he improves enough to walk without aid for very short distances.
At this point he's been mostly bed-bound for over a month. He is sinking fast psychologically. It brings back an awful year he (we) had when he suffered a massive post-surgical infection that required repeated operations to clean out and encourage healing in his foot and ankle.
I'm tired. Between this and Covid, it's hard to keep on. DH is now decidedly better physically but far down psychologically. My own clinical depression is butting into his congruent depression. Every day I try to get him out of the house, even just to run to the post office. It's better than nothing.
Thanks for letting me vent.
