Is America ready for another round of Roseanne Barr?

Looking forward to it, glad they are ignoring the last season, wonderful show but that season was a train wreck

I can't take Roseanne's voice. I didn't watch it the first time around, so I won't this time around either. It does make me slightly sad; I like Sarah, Johnny, Laurie, and John as actors.

I'll give it a shot. I liked the original show up to a point but that's the way with most TV for me. 2 or 3 yrs and out.

I also liked the original. I will give it a shot, but I really don't watch much TV, so who knows.

I thought she was going blind? I wonder if she had a newly developed operation for it.

I'll probably watch at least a few minute just out of curiosity. The reviewers seem to like it but I suspect it might become a train wreck. fwiw, Johnny Galecki's character was rather lame on the first iteration of Roseanne. But his character on The Big Bang Theory was not bad at all. Laurie Metcalf had an interesting character on BBT as well. Sara Gilbert got plenty of screen time on Roseanne the first time around and her character was developed in a fairly sensible way. She had a much smaller role on BBT but it was still fun. John Goodman amassed a rather lengthy resume after Roseanne. I'm somewhat surprised he agreed to do this. And yes, Roseanne's speaking voice and acerbic quips can be very annoying. But I'm pretty sure they won't dare have her sing anything. lol

Laurie Metcalf was just nominated for an Oscar. Sara Gilbert has a morning talk show. I don't think any of them--except Roseanne--need this re-boot.
Good gracious--the poor national anthem.

The National Anthem is strong. It survived. Our collective ears, not-so-much. Truly a "what were they thinking" situation. Did the person responsible for booking her think this would turn out well? Did Roseanne think people would appreciate her voice? Innovative version of a one-fingered salute to the crowd at the end, though.

I'm kind of wondering how they're going to write off Mark since he died. Did he and Becky divorce? Did he die? Or are they just going to pretend he never existed?
Supposedly there's a scene where the Beckys are sitting across the table from each other. How's that going to work out?

I'll probably watch at some point for nostalgia's sake. I'm not expecting much. Reboot tv shows or movies are usually a huge letdown. Arts and entertainment evolve so much and its pretty much impossible to stay at the forefront while remaining an homage to the past. I mean, it might have been leaps and bounds better than Step by Step, but it's not going to hold a candle to Veep.

Yeah, I will watch for nostalgia sake. I really enjoyed the first few seasons of Rosanne but I am not a fan of reboot shows.

Disappointed I don’t see anywhere Martin Mull is coming back as “Leon”, him and Roseanne going at it was one of the best parts of the show.

I don't know. I really enjoyed the show and thought it was funny. Guess I will check it out.

Darlene's son will be named Mark in his memory. They've stated that they will show Becky struggling with his death. 2nd Becky (Sarah Chalke) will be a woman who hires 1st Becky (Lecy Goranson) to be a surrogate for her. Darlene & David have split up & Johnny Galeki (sp) will appear in at least 2 episodes including the 1st one. They have 2 kids, a teenaged daughter (Harris) and a young son (Mark). The final season "never happened". In theory, the last episode is the wedding between Darlene & David where Dan has his heart attack.

Is there a preview somewhere I haven't seen? I've read several interviews with Lecy & Sara Gilbert. Saw a youtube video that showed clips of scenes & gave several bits of information about where all the characters are now. Plus months ago I read that Johnny G talked about getting clearance from BBT to appear on Roseanne. There are several "new clip" videos on Youtube. The first clip with DJ talking the volume is weird, but the others are normal after that, so don't crank up the sound when you can't hear the DJ clip.

I watched the pilot episode on Amazon last night and realized I had never seen it, and there was a different kid playing Dj. Since I was in high school when the show started, my guess is I saw random episodes here and there the first couple of seasons. I might try and watch all the seasons, except the last one (of course).

As it should have been.
I have mixed feelings on this. Roseanne is my TV version of comfort food. I watched it when it was first on the air and watched the reruns over and over and over (except that horrid last season... anyone remember the one with Steven Seagal on the train?). It was one of the very few shows I felt semi-accurately reflected my own life (and I was/am a Darlene, down to the curly hair and deadpan humor.)
I'll probably watch it, but I just hope they don't ruin it. I'm not sure they can continue to capture what made it such a groundbreaking show in the early 90s.

I have added it to my On Demand list of shows and will check it out. Reboots can be a hit and miss kind of thing. I am watching the reboot of Will & Grace and am loving it. It's like it never ended the first time. So hopefully this will be just as good.

I remember it being pretty funny first couple of seasons, then getting tired of it. Plus Roseanne kind of let fame get to her.
Saw some early episodes on TV Land last night during my middle of the night can't sleep TV binge. It was pretty funny. Plus seeing young early 80s George Clooney was a treat 😄

I am really enjoying rewatching all the old episodes on Amazon. From what I remember, I really liked it up until they had a 4th kid. I believe that was just a couple of years before the show ended. Rosanne was one of those shows where the writing got bad the last couple of seasons (happens a lot). They probably should have ended the show after 7 years instead of 9.

I see there's a time-slot conflict between Roseanne and NCIS.

It'll be interesting to see which show gets better ratings on Roseanne vs. NCIS.

That's what DVR is for. I started to watch NCIs but then remembered the other numerous times the headquarters have been under bomb threat or such so I decided to read a book instead but will watch Rosanne later.

SO tired of shows bringing politics into the mix Bringing politics into sitcoms is a tricky business. Done properly, it's non-judgmental and a chance to look at how issues affect our personal lives and recognize that there's generally more than one side to any story. Done poorly, it's just the writers taking an opportunity to pontificate and it can become preachy and tiring. I only saw a few moments last night, during commercials on NCIS. Part of a scene with Goodman and Gilbert seemed like it might be worth watching. Other moments, not-so-much. To those who watched the whole thing, what are the early opinions?
