I think cooking healthy and kid-friendly meals is a real challenge. DS will NOT eat brown rice. He will eat wheat pasta and noodles though, so I usually sub that in for him. He'll eat broccoli, green beans, cauliflower, and raw carrots but no other veggies. When I eat with him (and I'm actually trying to be healthy lol), I'll usually have more veg and less side carb. But most of the time I eat lunch/dinner with him, I eat what he eats... which isn't always the best for losing weight.

Re: yogurt..... after doing a lot of label reading at the grocery store, I settled on a large container of full fat plain Greek yogurt - very little sugar and a TON of protein. I also picked up peanut butter powder. I love PB but do not love all the calories and fat. This morning I discovered that plain Greek yogurt + PB powder + a small dollop of honey = a delicious and filling breakfast/snack. Definitely packing that as my afternoon snack for tomorrow - 4pm is the witching hour, and with my commute I typically don't eat dinner til near 7:30. So the PB powder is out. Turns out the doctor was right and I really am allergic to tree nuts (PB says it may contain tree nuts). Oh well, it was good while it lasted. Now I need to find a suitable other flavoring for the yogurt. I guess just honey....? The good thing is that the yogurt at 4 ish really did help. I was still sated when I got home and was able to get a little workout in. And I just had popcorn for dinner since that's all I really wanted. Way under my calories for today but I am not at all hungry.

Add an extract like vanilla, lemon or orange to the plain yogurt.

I used to eat kashi go-lean crunch with plain yogurt and fruit--like blueberries or raisins in it. So good. Just make sure you have a lot of fruit for plain yogurt.

How many ounces of yogurt do you eat as a snack? I think it was around 6. It's kind of a lot but it really did a great job keeping me full.

Eating is my downfall too. I am the designated family garbage disposal. I hate wasting food and we are really trying to keep an eye on that, so I end up eating all the random odds and ends for my dinner a few nights per week. And I tend to wash it down with some beers or wine, lol. Part of my no-spend challenge with DH will include alcohol. I am not buying more when I go for groceries. If he gets some, fine, but that will limit things because he doesn't typically go shopping. I tend to eat a lot of pasta/rice dishes for dinner because they are easy to make and the kids will eat them without fuss. Have you tried whole wheat pasta and brown rice? It's better for you and will keep ypu fuller longer. Thing 2 doesn't like whole wheat pasta, but we eat brown rice all the time.

So yesterday I went in early and did weights and then spin class then Zumba. I feel like I got a good whole body work out. My arms and legs hurt a bit after, but that's ok. Tonight is elliptical and abs before Zumba. Hopefully I can get back to where I was before the holidays soon.

MJ, Add an extract like vanilla, lemon or orange to the plain yogurt. I made myself a vanilla yogurt for snack today by adding a little vanilla extract and 1 tbsp honey. I tested it and it was pretty good.

Weights AND spin class AND then Zumba? Thats easily 2+ hours working out!! I'd be dead meat after all that.

I do weights until spin class starts. I only do half of apin class because Zumba starts a half hour after spin class begins. Then I do an hour of Zumba. Then I go home and shower and do a little around the house. I was only doing an hour and a half on my gym days until recently. I kick it up a notch every now and then either by adding time or by adding resistance to whatever machine I'm on. Tonight I think I'm going to kick the resistance on the elliptical up a notch too. Then I shiuld be good for a while until it seems that I'm not getting as much out of it anymore.

My weekly check-in: Exercise - nope Food - that's been going well. I'm trying to go 30 days with no processed sugar. I'm on day 8 and severe cravings have passed. I'm also cutting back on bread, potatoes, etc. Week one: lost 3 lbs. Does anyone else have a problem with the Stridekick app not 'fetching' the data from Fitbit? I keep having to 'change devices' on Stridekick to get the updated steps count.

I've got several days of zero steps, since it only fetched the day I updated. I did notice before that it will only fetch the last 5 days. It doesn't really matter for me because my step counts are really low anyway.

I know early in the morning the Stridekick app will not fetch my fitbit (flex). When I get home it is fine.

They said that they are experiencing heavy traffic due to the new year. I think that's not the real problem, as I haven't had any trouble up until today, but whatever. She said that I could just manually enter my steps if necessary. She also said that it's a known issue with Fitbits, though that's not the device I have. I figure if it's still not working by tomorrow I'll reply and let them know. Until then, at least my watch/phone are tracking my steps.

I'm counting the first week of this year as a loss, but I'm trying again. I've been slacking on everything lately and it shows. I haven't taken my vitamins in ages and wasn't getting enough water. I've upped my water intake again and this is day 2 of back on my vitamins. Those are 7 day a week goals. I'm going back to my basics, exercise wise, and starting at the 1 mile walks on Leslie Sansone videos. She annoys me by talking/preaching too much sometimes but I can still get a decent workout in my out of shape state. I want to do 7 days a week but will be happy with myself if I manage 5. I've done 2 days on this so far. The weight goal will be 5 pounds a month instead of some big scary number.

I got a new fitbit in the mail today!! Except it's actually my neighbor's fitbit delivered to me by mistake I am going to the gym this afternoon for some cardio, it's been busy after dinner time so earlier is easier to get the machines I like. Last night I did about 20 min of weight training circuits (mostly arms and back) and then about 15 min on the bike while reading. I find that if I can combo my reading goal and cardio goal then bike time goes so much faster! It finally stopped raining for a few minutes so I'm heading outside to rake while it's dry.

I did the crunch workout today, and I'm drinking some ice water, so I'm calling it a win. Weight is down to 153.8. Last week was a spike, that's about where I should be for a starting weight. Still eating chocolate chip cookies, but otherwise my eating is back to a better level.

I'm traveling for work this week, and eating reasonably is.not.possible. I brought my suit and planned to swim every day this week to get in a really good workout each day at least. But between a sinus bug and long ass days so far it hasn't happened and isn't likely tonight. We'll see if I can manage something tomorrow morning.

I had my yogurt at 4, hit the Y after work, and still wasn't starving when I got home! I'm eating now. I know it's late but it was the soonest I could - whole wheat penne with sautéed garlic and spinach, topped with plenty of parmesan cheese (I earned it!). And somehow I'm still under my calorie allowance. Maybe there really is something to that yogurt.

I find if I eat a apple about 2pm then that curbs my munching till dinnertime. I actually feel filled up when I have a daily apple. I love Red Prince apples, and they come out this month.
WOO HOO, those Red Prince apples are in store now, and they are on sale this week.

So I did a little bit of abs yesterday. It's definitely been a while. I just have to keep on it. I then did my elliptical time and then Zumba. I kicked up the resistance on the elliptical from a 6 to a 7 and I was immediately sorry, but I pushed through. Tonight is weights then spin then Zumba again.
