after a SEVERE indigestion attack about 2 weeks ago, the doctor recommended that I try a "bland" diet for a week (no caffeine, no alcohol, no spicy foods). I also kept a food diary to record what I ate, meds I took, and what (if any) reactions I had. I'm pretty close to identifying some triggers. I know for sure that eating too much will trigger some kind of episode. I know that's a DUH statement, but I have seriously never had more than a minor stomachache after pigging out. The last times I've pigged out/eaten more than I should my stomach felt extremely uncomfortable and eventually I was in pain. Other possible triggers: oily/fried food - I haven't had fries/chips in a while and I had some yesterday at lunch. My stomach felt pretty off a few hours later. chocolate - I've even switched to the dark stuff and the most recent times I've eaten it I've gotten a minor stomachache afterward. Yes I can still eat these foods if I take anti-acid meds, but I don't want to be taking meds all the time. But I will still have my chocolate from time to time.

Glad you're narrowing things down. And I agree, a life without chocolate is one I wouldn't want to live. Good luck.

My zumba instructor showed me some exercises last night to help tone up my arms so I'm going to start doing them. I want to get rid of the bat wings as much as possible and the side effects or whatever you call the fat that spills over the side of your bra. He also showed me some exercises to get rid of my upper thigh fat. I'm hoping to be able to rock booty shorts by summer. I'll likely not wear them, but it would be nice to be able to.

Jena, do you visit SkinnyTastes website? www.skinnytaste.comShe has excellent recipes, not too many ingredients and she include WW points and nutritional info for each one of them. Lots of non-oily, veggie heavy recipes.

re: keto... I'm not on a diet and I already know I can't do the "no-bread/sugar/pasta/rice" thing. I'm mostly trying to find new, non-greasy things to change things up. The biggest change I've made that seemed to help the most is eating smaller portions often. I can now tell really quickly if I'm full and I can REALLY tell if I try to push past that. The diary is actually helping me make better choices. Although I had chips yesterday, I had a wonderful hummus/cucumber/tomato/red onion sandwich on multigrain bread with them. I could eat that sandwich every single day...

Hey you don't have to be ON a keto diet to make keto recipes I am on no diet either, and I make them all the time, just supplement with whatever carbs you want. Some of her keto recipes are actually very tasty, so I say keep an open mind.

I will!
This is actually good for a new friend. She is vegetarian and EXTREMELY picky. I went to her place for breakfast Sunday. She made naan and tea, but the rest of the "meal" was made up of things like spiced peanuts, dried chickpea crumbles, etc. Tasty but not at all filling. That's her breakfast daily and she complained that she wants to gain more weight (I hate those people! lol). I told her that eating just that will definitely keep her skinny. She has never had eggs, doesn't like tofu, but she does like beans. I'll send her the link and hopefully it will give her some ideas about things to try.

andi9899 - check out Pinterest. There are some great 10 - 15 minute arm exercises on there. I follow one that is 10 minutes - uses 5 lb and 3 lb weights. Then recently I added a 5 minute video. I only do them every other day and I have noticed a difference. I'm just turned 50 and am working on moving more. I'm not super over weight, but could definitely lose 10-15 pounds, but my main focus is health. Move more + eat better, but don't go cold turkey cutting out a food group like - donuts.

Weekly check in
Barely hit step goal. Missed on strength exercise. Weight is trending downward since beginning of year. Eating could use improvement.
Busy week at work so keeping goals the same. 77500 steps and strength building exercise 3 times during week.
Have a great week everyone.

We got our first walk of the season in last night. Food choices were better last week. I'm hopeful spring will break soon and I'll feel better.

A girl that works with me is moving away so we're going out for drinks tonight and I'm skipping the gym. I regret nothing. Yay booze!

So I have some excess skin from my pregnancies that is not going to go away, but I want to get it a little less noticeable. Surely there's at least a little fat underneath it. I was thinking about wearing a waist trimmer to the gym thinking that maybe I could pull out water weight and make the area look smaller. Thoughts? Would that even work?

I went to Sprouts last night and got a bunch of really good stuff. They had seedless watermelon 2/$3 and they looked really good so I got 2. They were kinda small, but for the price, I'm pretty cool with it. Had a fruit smoothie this morning as did Thing 2. Tonight's dinner is going to be baked chicken and a huge salad. Yum.

Just got my bloodwork results back from my doc. All is good for another year. Whew. I was a little worried, as I'd been thinking how my diet hasn't been great lately, but in talking with her about it and in seeing my results, she was unconcerned and told me that I was doing fine diet wise. I'm pretty sure I shouldn't take this as permission to go eat ALL THE FRIES for lunch today tho My coworker had french fries yesterday that smelled SO GOOD and now that's all I can think about eating.

I am ridiculously low on will power. I don't know how to solve that problem. I just keep eating and eating and eating.

I think I forgot to check in last week. Meh, I did very little so no loss. This week was a bit better. 2.5 weeks on crutches so far - it seems like 2.5 months already. Yes, I've been whiny and cranky
I've been doing my little chair exercises for my legs. I don't know that it's doing much, but if I can at least maintain without losing a lot of muscle, I'll call that a win. I used my crutches for 2 days, couldn't stand it, and got a knee scooter. So much easier for getting around at work, but that means I'm not getting the arm workout that I would have with the crutches. So I need to add arm exercises back in. An FYI for anyone who has to be non-weight bearing: I-walk is the best invention ever!
On my eating normal experiment, I think it's going well. It's taken a while to remember what all I used to eat. I may have gained a pound or two - hard to tell since when I weigh myself standing on one foot, the scale jumps around a lot - but I think that's a complete lack of exercise more than my diet. Regardless, I'm enjoying the change of food, so I'm sticking with it.
This week:
Continue my chair exercises Add arm weight exercises Maybe I've gone a bit overboard on eating whatever I want, so be more mindful of that
Pretty lame goals, but like I said, I'm whiny and cranky lately, so that's as much as I care to do
Have a great first week of May everyone!

Weekly check in
Missed step goal by over 11000. Friday I was feeling like I was coming down with a cold and decided I was no going to push myself. Still feel like I am coming down with a cold. Will not hit the monthly step goal. Oh well tomorrow starts a new month. A little ahead of pace for yearly goal.
I did attempt a little strength training 3 times.
Weight is doing okay.
This week's goals 1. 70000 steps. 2. Some type of strength training 3 times. 3. Try to skip night snacking.
Have a great week everyone

I'm trying to learn how to eat better too. My diet isn't full of crap. It's mostly healthy with a little crap. I'm trying to cut out even more crap though and substitute healthier options instead. My issue mostly I think is carbs. I'm not giving up carbs altogether, just want the carbs I do eat to be good ones and not bad.

I just ate my second breakfast. I had an egg mcmuffin at my normal breakfast time, then because I'm ridiculous, I just had a greek yogurt with granola. Why am I so hungry today!? Good thing I've got lunch plans in an hour.

Another week down, another week of being a slug. Hopefully I only have about three weeks left of being non-weight bearing. I don't have the patience for this. My son has been such a trooper about carting me around, but I think he's getting a little tired of me too lol.
I did 5/7 days of the leg exercises. I didn't do as much with the arm weights as I planned (more like none), but I did do push ups 6/7 days. I'm up to 37 at a time. My eating wasn't much better, but honestly I'm bored to death not being able to do much, so I'll just pig out to make myself happy and worry about it later. Oh, and this should make anyone who feels like they were lazy this week feel better: I got in just over 14,000 steps this week, so at least you did better than me!
This week: Continue chair exercises Push ups at least five days - I want to get up to 45 at a time by next weekend Actually do the arm weights I said I was going to do
That's going to be good enough I guess.
Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Yum! so far I've made her butternut squash soup (I know it's a fall/winter meal but I was in the mood for it) and her Cuban black beans. Both were delicioso! Next week I'm making the spinach ziti. I also made chocolate chia pudding the week before last. It was okay, but I think I'd rather make a version of chia pudding that resembles rice pudding in terms of flavor.
