Good thing I have lots of spare time today. IN YOUR OWN WORDS: BTW, that issue is not just with this church, but with multiple religious organizations from the Catholic church to the Church of Scientology. Osteen's church practices prosperity theology which is BS. I don't care for the guy or megachurches. My one in-law who follows the guy is a hot mess. Apparently, your understanding of the gospel and mine are two different things. Most of us know that our Bishop does not model good behavior..but I think you see that in folks of any sort of leadership position..whether it's in religion or in the secular world. Prosperity theology is basically the belief that financial blessing and physical well-being are always the will of God for people, and that faith, positive speech, and donations to religious causes will increase one's material wealth. It's a load of crap. And to me it's dangerous because it promotes the idea that only good people end up wealthy. Which is about as far from the truth as possible. But, then I feel like a lot of religious crap is dangerous. But, I also think for these mega churches it's generally pretty obvious, and many of them are media whores and so make sure that the word gets out. It's a load of crap. And to me it's dangerous because it promotes the idea that only good people end up wealthy. Which is about as far from the truth as possible. It goes hand in hand with poor shameing. I'm not bashing religion. I'm bashing Osteen. He's not a religious guy. He's a con man Sounds like Jesus is a classic underachiever. If you have the power to make miracles, shouldn't you be putting it to better use than working a food donation line? Why not just turn the water into bacon and let us all eat our way out of the disaster? Last pastor at the church where I worked that got closed because it went broke never donated a dime to the church. Jesus was Jewish, Did he keep kosher? Interesting how there are religious people on one side, handing up excuse after excuse for why Osteen couldn't open the doors to anyone whatsoever - and non-religious do-gooders on the other side, saying at least shelter some people. So much for trying to model your lives after Jesus. The concept of sacrifice is lost on so many American Christians. I make fun of Jesus all the time. So far I am still alive, still flourishing and no lightening has ever hit me. Haha. day's not over yet. I would think that Jesus could take a little teasing. Anyone who thinks that Christians actually have a concept that they should model their lives after Jesus doesn't seem to know much about Jesus from a practical perspective. Combine with the condescending, gleeful, nature of this thread and it is obvious. Glad to see so many "professed Christians" on this thread lining up to throw the first stone. Enough time wasted for me on this thread............................. Fortunately, the above post will be deleted within 1-5 days of original posting date to maintain digital privacy. Hurry up, tomorrow!

This is what happens on this board all the time, it is just an echo chamber. No one here really has any facts for this religion and Osteen bashing at all. It is all conjecture, "looks fine to me", "well that does not sound true to me", "yeah I heard blah, blah, blah", fantasy, that spun into 7 pages of religion bashing. There are only two religion bashers present; everyone else is attacking Mr. Osteen's church/doctrine specifically. Is it mean-spirited? Some of it seems to be. Even so, I'm often accused of being mean-spirited for condemning social evils. I'm sure the same is true for you. If you'd rather be given the benefit of the doubt, extend the same courtesy to the other side. Mr. Osteen's "health and wealth" doctrine has been around for millennia. Critics of his doctrine have been around for millennia. My church, for example, is highly critical of "health and wealth" churches built on a foundation of seeking wealth rather than seeking God. Whether by Christians or by secularists, such organizations are reasonably perceived as (at the very least) risky and opportunistic. Many commit great evil in the name of God. Hence there is such a thing as legitimate criticism. It isn't necessarily bigotry and general resentment towards religious individuals, which is what "religion bashing" implies. As for members being misinformed about the circumstances surrounding Mr. Osteen's declining to open the church (I don't know to what extent this is true), make the most compelling argument you can that specific allegations are ignorant, unsubstantiated, or flat-out wrong. Let posters reply, and hope that the readership can distinguish between "that doesn't sound true to me" and legitimate counterarguments. Sometimes it helps to make a summary post. In this thread, if there are practical or logistical reasons for Mr. Osteen's decision, compile these into a single post and address any feedback more substantive than "looks fine to me" or "that doesn't sound true" (i.e. the usual detritus people post in an attempt to save face). Just yesterday the " Border Patrol Checking Evac Papers" thread stopped dead when it was discovered the OP was based on "fake news". That's the best outcome you're ever going to get on a political message board.

In that case, how comes all the big banks haven't thrown open their door giving free cash,, Yea,, I can see that happening!
Or Big oil giving away free gas instead of raising prices!!

I blame the hypocritical, greedy asshole fraud that is Osteen. dannylion and thyme4change are mean girls. Dannylion and Thyme are mean girls! <<hands them the latest designer sparkly pink jackets>> Welcome! Sorry if I missed anybody else but I only saw their names mentioned along with Tenn's on this page. PM me with your sizes if you also want one. You too Tenn!

Cool! A sparkly jacket! I think a nice aubergine shade would work better for me, though, Peace Of Mind. Something by Rei Kawakubo would be nice.
Golly, lots of folks to add to the "doesn't like dannylion" column.
Oh, well. More snacks for me!

But, I don't think there's anything wrong with pointing it out either.

I'm apparently mean for pointing out that St. Joel is a weasel and a charlatan. Or possibly for simply being curious about what language god uses to communicate with those who profess to converse with him. And I've been roundly scolded on another thread for being so mean and nasty that I actually expressed a genuine wish that wxyz would experience good fortune.
Consider me told and firmly put in my place.
On the other hand, sparkly jacket and a spot at the mean girls table!
Actually, I regret the weasel comparison. Weasels are noble creatures that perform an important function within their environment and make a significant contribution to the ecosystem. They did not deserve to be dragged into that analogy.
Now back to roasting babies shopping for a new car.
