I saw that earlier. what bullshit. these are people fleeing for their lives, among everyone that's doing so. you're going to impede evacuation to check statuses? hopefully nobody dies because of that policy.

In a joint statement posted online Friday, officials from both the Border Patrol and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agencies said they would be promoting “life-saving and life-sustaining activities, the safe evacuation of people who are leaving the impacted area” and “the maintenance of public order,” among other things. So they still didn't close them until the Hwy. closed! So I'm wondering how many people they put in jeopardy, both the ones without papers & those who didn't leave due to this?

I have been through many checkpoints in my life, none in Texas. The ones I have been through are always a bottleneck, slowing down traffic. I have never been bothered by them, but is seems like that in this scenario, keeping traffic moving and getting people out of there would be paramount to catching a few illegals. Causing unnecessary traffic jams seems like that would put perfectly lovely white citizens in danger.

Oh, I bet cars with white people were waved thru - while the vehicles with brown people were routed off to the side for the ID check. OR, maybe they stopped EVERYONE and whoever was brown and didn't speak perfect Texas accented English got routed off to the side.
I'm not so proud to be an American these days.
(Especially when the President HID behind the awfulness of a hurricane to announce some of his dirty work. )

You forgot those who couldn't leave due to delays caused by this action? Or does anyone truly believe that a checkpoint has an "illegals only" lane? Or one designated "legals only" that works?

Technically, it's real news that relies on fake information from the ACLU.
