Good way to view letting a dog go the right way.

Not a dog but cute as hell. Little Fritz and his mom at the Cincinnati Zoo the other day. Fritz was born last year.

I do believe the boy's dog knocked him down to protect him from the charging dog.

My precious fuzzy buddy crossed over the Rainbow Bridge today. She had developed a tumor involving her vocal cords and spine several months ago, and the vet told her people it was inoperable because of the location. They treated her with steroids, which seemed to help and give her some relief, but she had been declining rapidly over the past few weeks. When I saw her on Thursday, she was very weak and frail with labored breathing. Her mom said she stopped eating on Friday and over the weekend just lay still sleeping. She was letting them know it was time.
We are all very sad. I will miss her very much. She was a Good Dog who was loved and valued.

Sad day yesterday, I knew it was coming, just didn't end up how I thought. One of my dogs was 15+, blind, hard of hearing and generally in rough shape. He never went more than 100-ft from the house, until last week. He wandered off into the woods, I looked for three days, assumed he was dead.
Magically he shows up on a Facebook post 5 days later, he had wandered almost 1 mile away. When I reached out, they let me know he was brought to a local " no kill" shelter. Great, all I need to do is pick him up...
I called the shelter, they let me know that they felt he was in too bad of shape to save when he came in, so he was euthanized within 24-hours...my heart broke, but I knew his time on earth was limited. They apologized and offered to send me his ashes upon completion of cremation. It's a minor comfort, but still heartbroken that I was only a few hours from finding him and bringing him home.

I'm so sorry you did not have a chance to say goodbye. I hope you can take some comfort in the fact he appeared to want to go off and die alone.

So sorry to hear of the loss of your sweet dog. I'm sure he knew you loved him very much, regardless of the circumstances.

I know this should probably be in the dog thread, but why did no one tell me there is such a thing as a Croatian sheep dog? I see a dog similar to this being walked in a park near me. Not a meme, but favorite dogs count too? Right?

Another sweet story from Dodo. It’s 3 p.m. at Jacksonville Humane Society (JHS), and Hopper has his eyes fixed on the door. The sweet pup spends most of his days waiting in his kennel for someone to adopt him, but he knows that’s about to change for a bit: A familiar volunteer is about to walk in to read him a book. Hopper can’t contain his excitement. As much affection as he receives from his caregivers at the shelter, there’s something special about the visitors who walk in with books. When 9-year-old Nehemiah enters the room, Hopper’s tail whips excitedly back and forth — he’s so happy to see his friend again. www.thedodo.com/daily-dodo/nervous-shelter-dog-immediately-calms-down-when-he-sees-a-book-in-someones-hands
