I've tried shirataki noodles, and I'm not a huge fan. I am definitely into the "rinse them until you run out of water" camp as far as getting the original funkiness off of them. I'm a bigger fan of Korean glass noodles, which are actually sweet potato.

Yes, the initial aroma was certainly overpowering. Had I not been prepared, I probably would have thrown them out thinking they went bad. The glass noodles are now on my to-try list!

Thanks for the recipe link. Has anyone tried these weird noodles: Shirataki Noodles ? They're not grains, but made from a type of yam native to Japan and have like 10 calories per serving and no carbs. I made them the other night with a chicken and broccoli stir fry, and was pleasantly surprised. Even my picky family liked them. You're welcome. I've been wanting to try the Shirataki noodles, but don't know where to find them in the store and keep forgetting to ask a store employee. What section do you recommend?

I thought this is appropriate for this thread: I saved $1,276 on groceries and HBAs in 2016 by using coupons, e-coupons and shopping sales.

I'm roasting a turkey.
I don't have a chest freezer, so I've been keeping my food frozen outside. However, it's been unseasonably warm, so the turkey is thawed out. Might as well cook it.

If not, maybe Wally World has them...?

I would think Wally World would have them if they have a full grocery section. I don't think I've ever looked for them there.

Tonight will be chicken tortilla soup left over from dinner last night @ Chick-fil-A and 1/2 sandwich left over from lunch yesterday when I decided to buy my lunch instead. Iced tea to drink. Total maybe $4.

(A large local food co-op here in the Seattle area.) My mom also bought a large box of them at Costco. I'm pretty sure you could order them from Amazon too.

Tonight: Salad with dried cranberries and toasted pecans and potato/leek soup.
I am so happy that I finally found cracked wheat (Ziyad brand) in the grocery store. Now I can make Tabouli salad from scratch.
Friday: Quesadillas or tacos.
Saturday: I made a reservation at our favorite steak and bourbon restaurant to celebrate our anniversary.

Leftover beef and snow peas from the other night.
I cooked some pasta to go with the spaghetti sauce from a previous night and that's lunch tomorrow.
I'm trying to do a better job of using up leftovers and planning for when I will cook dinner. There's no need to buy a ton of stuff if I'm cooking for two nights.

I believe tonight is going to be quesadillas with pork and cheese. Fast and easy. I need to go to the mall after work and I know that I will be really tired when I get home.

I have to run a couple errands on my "lunch" break, so I'll grab something out. I've been craving fries from Five Guys something fierce today, so maybe that.

Tonight was an overcooked stir-fry with steak, mushrooms and onions. I overdid the steak. Anything not still mooing is overdone,😛. On the plus side, I didn't hurt myself using my mandoline when slicing the onions. For a nice change!
Steak was in the freezer, $4.72 for 1.1 lbs. Cooked the whole thing. Bag of frozen mushrooms, $1.00 or so and sauteed sweet onion, about $.90. I hate my fucking phone.

Baking soda.

You never come across any tough beef or pork in Chinese restaurants, do you?

That may be tomorrow so I can kill DH while it looks like an accident.

Still, the meat in everything from the beef and broccoli to the pork fried rice is incredibly tender.

No broccoli involved. It was just beef, mushrooms and onions. I did them in the wrong order, that's all. It's edible, just weird because i like my meat mooing, not well done.

I made a pot of chili my way. Lots of beef strips and no beans. I don't mind the bean taste, but I can't eat the beans, so I just put a small can of refried beans with jalapenos in the chili. I now need to cut down on the portions and not make such a big pot. Thankfully it freezes well.
For the kids, I made a hash brown/sausage casserole. Today I will make a ham/broccoli/mushroom quiche. Some ham and turkey roll ups and quesadillas. Lunch and dinner is complete for the week as I know the kids will want to stop for fastfood at least once (on their dime).
Crockpot oatmeal sounds good for breakfast right now.

Welts, please explain. How do you use baking soda for tender meat. Thanks. There's more than one method. I make fried rice with beef for my son. I slice meat thin, put in just enough water in a bowl to cover the sliced meat and add a tiny bit of soda, no more than half a teaspoon. Let it sit for about 15-20 minutes then rinse, pat dry and cook. The alkaline nature of soda keeps the proteins from "curling up" and becoming tough during the process of cooking. It needs a large surface area, so large cuts of beef won't work. It has to be sliced thin. naturalhealthezine.com/how-to-tenderize-beef-with-baking-soda/It really does work.
