Lobster bisque and homemade bread tonight. I made seafood stock from shrimp and lobster shells I've been saving. Fresh lobster tails (wild Canadian) were on sale this week, as was lactose-free milk. I have goat's milk butter for the roux and some Jarlsberg cheese to grate on top of the soup. DH is lactose-intolerant, so I cannot buy the commercial bisque.

Tonight was an overcooked stir-fry with steak, mushrooms and onions. I overdid the steak. Anything not still mooing is overdone,😛. On the plus side, I didn't hurt myself using my mandoline when slicing the onions. For a nice change! Steak was in the freezer, $4.72 for 1.1 lbs. Cooked the whole thing. Bag of frozen mushrooms, $1.00 or so and sauteed sweet onion, about $.90. I hate my fucking phone. Do you use the old Chinese trick for making the meat incredibly tender in your stir fry? Baking soda. I know how to tenderize chicken, what's the trick for pork?

I bought a ball of pizza dough, but now don't feel like pizza. What else can I make? I've made my own hot pockets or calzones. I did one with sauteed chicken, broccoli, cheddar cheese and red pepper. I need to make some of those again. I'm hopefully going grocery shopping when I get back into town so hopefully I can come up with dinner. I've been eating out all weekend.

I need to cook off some boneless pork chops in order to do up some fried rice for dinner this week. I may grab some of that for dinner, not sure. I know I have some onion rings that a friend brought on her way by from a trip up to Boston today, just need something else than that. I'm still stuffed from brunch around noon.

Slice of pizza from Wegman's, $3.17. Don't want to go grocery shopping hungry.

Peanut butter on toast for dinner. With a side of chard/kale and spinach, because I promised myself I would eat my veggies.

I just turned on the news and saw a ticker at the bottom about an attack in QC. still waiting in the actual details. please check in when you can. I'm in Montreal. it's true. Five people were killed after gunmen opened fire in a Quebec City mosque during evening prayers, the mosque's president told reporters on Sunday. Earlier, a witness told Reuters that up to three gunmen fired on about 40 people inside the Quebec City Islamic Cultural Center. Police put up a security perimeter around the mosque. Quebec police confirmed the shooting at a Quebec mosque in a tweet, and police on the scene said there had been fatalities. "There are many victims ... there are deaths," a Quebec police spokesman told reporters. www.cnbc.com/2017/01/29/5-dead-in-quebec-city-mosque-shooting-mosque-president.htmlIslamophobia has really ramped up since ...oh... about January 20. Gosh, I wonder why that is.....?

zibazinski - have you looked at budget bytes? She has some really good veggie soups if that interests you. I make the Moroccan Veggie Lentil soup quite often and I have also made cauliflower soup and several others that were fairly tasty.

I sauteed some BSCB from the freezer this morning, for both lunch (1) and tonight's dinner (2). the chicken has been in there since who knows when, and I don't believe the date on the outer bag as the label didn't match. I'm thinking that as we used the last of whatever was in the outer bag, we just threw the cuts of BSCB in that and didn't re-date. original outer bag said March '16, so I count this chicken as free. anyway, after sauteeing the chicken, I set the rice to boil in the same non-stick skillet. I poured the chopped broccoli crowns on top of the rice just before putting the lid on to simmer. it made for a nice steam effect. (1) $1 1 pkg Knorr chicken flavored rice $1.50 2 large broccoli crowns, chopped free BSCB $2.50 for a bowl of this mix, plus a large container that's easily got 3 more servings. read: easy lunches the rest of the week. (2) $1 1/2 pkg of Dole's Asian salad mix (includes dressing and almonds) $.50 1/2 romaine heart to mix into the veggies free BSCB $1.50 for a large salad. I may have a clementine at some point, and I have a carrot cake cupcake that a friend brought home from a trip to Boston this weekend.

Do you use the old Chinese trick for making the meat incredibly tender in your stir fry? Baking soda. I know how to tenderize chicken, what's the trick for pork? I thought it was cornstarch you dredged the thin sliced meat to make it silky and tender in Chinese foods. Or do you soak the meat in a baking soda brine and then rinse it off and then proceed to cook it.

Pork roast, mashed potatoes, gravy, broccoli and carrots. Free to me. DF's mom made dinner and we are having cake and ice cream to celebrate his birthday from last week.

I always have to look up the timing.

You can either soak it or sprinkle it....in very small amounts. Not enough to impart a salty or alkaline taste. I saw it on America's Test Kitchen and tried it at home. The meat becomes incredibly tender.

The last of the penne pasta bake. I found the recipe on Hello Fresh. I'm not sure I would make it again. It was something different though. And my brother ate all of the leftovers except the bowl I had set aside.
Total cost maybe $12 or so? I had to buy $4/bag expensive organic kale because that's all Wegmans had Sunday night. I can't remember how much the chicken sausage is a pack. It's a multi pack from Sam's.
I have been moving out of my comfort zone and trying new things lately. I'm tired of the same old same old but I'm a total recipe girl.
